“Dad!” I exclaim, interrupting whatever he was about to say, and I hear both him and Mack chuckle. Great, now he has put ideas into that Mate of mine. Don’t get me wrong, I want Pups of my own somewhere down the line, and I know Mack will be a great Father, but not right now.
“Fine, Sweetheart. I won’t mention that for the time being, but I believe it is the best solution for all of us,” Dad responds.
Fortune tells me that she agrees with Dad; we need to make this our home, and it means I don’t have to move all of my belongings into the Pack-house. It will also give Fortune and Commander the freedom we wouldn’t have at the Pack-house; here we don’t have to worry about anyone watching us coming and going, and Fortune tells me that she always hoped we could raise our Pups here.
“Not you too,” I say as she brings up Pups; I am not sure if I am ready for that just yet, and I hope it will take a while before I get pregnant. Maybe I need to talk to Mack about this; I don’t think I can keep doing my job while I am pregnant, and it might become a bit difficult to leave a Pup behind if I have to go on an assignment.
“Mack and Commander will look after our Pup, and there are also two Grandfathers around,” Fortune chips in.
I try to figure out if I would still want to work the days and hours I work right now, and I know I would never be able to retire as long as there are still Assholes getting away with their crimes; I just might need to learn to depend on others a little more. She is right about one thing though; there will always be someone willing to look after our Pups, and something tells me I can even count on Max and Elyse for that task.
My boutiques run themselves basically, and I could have my meetings through video call if I have to, meaning I will only have to leave the territory if a crisis occurs at one of my boutiques or if I have to go after a target.
I decide that the first thing I need to do is to talk to Mack about this, and I am not just talking about Pups. What if he doesn’t want to move into the house?
Mack’s p.o.v.
I dread walking into the house, but I doubt Diego is going to kill me; he knows he isn’t a match for me, and I know he just wants to see his Daughter happy.
What I didn’t expect to hear was that Diego offered us to move into the house, but Commander agrees with him, and not only on the fact that she will still have access to her workspace in the attic. I think I just lost my Lycan to dreamworld, trying to picture our future with Pups in it.
Maleah seems to be lost in thought as I look at Diego and nod my head; I believe us moving into this house would be the best solution.
“Your Dad already offered me a room in your Quarters; he agrees with me this is the best place for the two of you to live, and with what Maleah has up in the attic and Tara’s old room, this will stay her home,” Diego says as he gets up. Maleah doesn’t even notice that he walks out of the room, and I can see that she is talking to Fortune.
She doesn’t even notice it when he kisses her on her forehead, and he shakes his head as he says goodnight, walking out of the house with a bag in his hand.
Looks like Dad is getting another roommate, and I am moving into this house with my Mate. I get to wake up with her in my arms every morning and I get to go to sleep with her in my arms every night, “Unless she has a job to do,” Commander points out, and I wonder how that is going to work in the future.
I will never ask her to stop doing what she does, not when it comes to her fashion or her assignments, and I will gladly stay at home with any Pups we might have in the future.
“Where did Dad go?” Maleah asks, and I tell her he left about fifteen minutes ago. “He is moving in with my Dad; both of them are on the same page when it comes to us moving into this house,” I tell her, and I can tell that something is on her mind.
“Why don’t we turn in for the night? You can tell me about whatever is running through your mind in the morning,” I say as I pull her off the couch and into my arms. I kiss her before I lift her up bridal style and walk out of the living room; I don’t bother locking the front door because Diego did that when he left. It isn’t difficult to find her room, and I can tell that it is the biggest room in the house; her bed, on the other hand, is a different story.
I look from the bed to Maleah and back again, until it seems to sink in why I am doing it, and she starts laughing uncontrollably. I can barely hold her in my arms with her laughing, so I drop her on the bed, and that results in her laughing even louder. I just look at Maleah as she is rolling around on her bed, tears rolling down her face from laughing, and I just enjoy watching my Mate being happy.
By the time she quiets down, I can tell she is exhausted, and before I get a chance to say something, I hear her breathing even out. I am battling with myself on whether or not to undress her, but I doubt she will be comfortable sleeping in her clothes, and I decide to take her clothes off before crawling into bed myself.
Like Maleah, I have no trouble falling asleep, and I believe they could have shot a cannon and I would sleep through it.
I wake in the morning from fingers tracing the tattoo on my chest; it is an image of Commander howling at the Full Moon with a forest behind him. The tattoo is on the right side of my chest, but it is an unfinished work, and now that I have found my Mate, I can finally finish it. I drew the complete tattoo when I was sixteen, even though I can’t draw at all, and the Lycan that placed the tattoo drew the final picture.
He made sure it was possible to split it in two without anyone asking questions; I told him to hold on to the drawing and that I would be back with a picture of my Mate’s Wolf or Lycan.
“He really captured Commander; it is amazing,” Maleah says, and I tell her it isn’t done yet. She sits up straight as she keeps looking at the tattoo, and she traces the forest on the left side of the tattoo. “It looks complete to me,” Maleah replies.
So I tell her what I did when I was sixteen, and I can see that Fortune is listening as well. “I chose to have Commander on the right side, and my Mate’s Wolf or Lycan will be where she belongs, on top of my heart,” I say as I pull her against my chest, and I can hear Fortune purring, an indication she is happy. I can feel Maleah relaxing in my arms, but I know we have to get back to the Pack-house and not just for breakfast and the meeting.
“Okay, Angel. Go take a shower and get dressed; after that, we need to go to the Pack-house so I can shower and change before breakfast, after which we will be heading to our morning meeting,” I say, and she jumps out of bed as she says, “You have to go up to the attic; I need the journal in the middle from the bottom shelf.” As she walks into the bathroom, she tells me the code to access the attic, and I put on the clothes I wore yesterday before doing as I was told.
She told me what I could expect in the attic, but I still look at it in awe; I can tell which furniture belonged to her Grandparents, and I let my eyes glide over the trunks lined up next to one another.
I open the last cupboard to get the journal she asked for, and I am glad she told us about this in detail; I even take a look inside the other two cupboards. “Damn, she wasn’t kidding when she described the contents,” Commander says as he looks through my eyes.
I see bottles lined up on some shelves next to the door, and I read a few of the labels, but none of them mean anything to me; I am glad she knows what they are for. I make sure I close the door and lock it with the code she gave me before I walk back to her bedroom.
I watch her as she is drying her hair, and when she turns to face me, I am stunned; I am not sure if I like her hair in a braid showing off her undercut or when she has it hanging down.
“I love it either way; she looks gorgeous no matter what,” Commander says. “She sure does, Buddy,” I answer him as I look at her.
