Wasn’t Irene aware that the coolness she referred to came from her choices yesterday? Sebastian simply granted what Irene thought was suitable for him to wear. Although Sebastian couldn’t deny that he was waiting for his assistant’s praise. “Do… do I have to cancel the appointment? But after lunch, the meeting with the marketing division isn’t postponed, right, sir?” Irene became flustered. She didn’t want her plans since morning to be ruined because Sebastian arbitrarily changed his schedule. She was afraid that the afternoon appointment with the boss would end up being a short date at a hotel.
A short date would make the boss return to the office at 4 p.m. There were no meetings in the afternoon unless it was absolutely necessary. And it was certain that Irene would definitely go home late.
“No,” Sebastian quickly shook his head. “Everything is according to the existing schedule.” He then stood up from his seat. “What did you deliver earlier?”
“Fast-food chicken, sir.”
“Oh my.”
“It’s delicious, sir,” Irene grinned. “Besides, Bella likes it too. I bought soup as well.”
Sebastian shook his head softly. It’s not that he didn’t want to eat food like that. It’s not about being arrogant either, but he needed a lot of nutrients for his brain. His work demanded a lot of mental effort. “Call Bella. Ask her where she is now.” Irene’s forehead furrowed.
“We’re eating at Amaris.”
“We?” Irene repeated in surprise.
“Yes,” Sebastian glanced briefly. “Alright, just prepare yourself and Bella. Tell Mr. Jack not to be on the road for too long.”
“If they get stuck in traffic, should they really be quick, sir?” Irene spoke softly.
“What did you say?”
Irene blinked. “Nothing.” She quickly gave a grin to cover up what she was hiding. “I’ll call Amaris first to confirm the location, sir.”
“Actually, I wanted to ask you something, Irene.”
The phone that Irene already had in her hand just dangled there. “Yes?”
“Why am I often called Raptor? I’ve tried to find out what Raptor is like. There’s no definition that resembles me.”
Irene swallowed nervously.
“Do you have any other scientific explanation?”
“No, sir,” Irene grimaced awkwardly. Sebastian was the type of person who, when he asked a question, needed to get an answer. Although the answer might not be satisfying, at least it wouldn’t raise further questions unless they were related to work.
Sebastian and what he was involved in at Faldom truly deserved Irene’s admiration. He immersed himself fully, to the extent of understanding the cool breeze of problems that occurred in each division. Perhaps because something disturbed him, such as the connection with Optima, it made the boss somewhat uneasy. Apart from this issue, Sebastian truly positioned himself as a competent boss.
“I’m just curious why my brain still can’t think. What made you label me as Raptor?”
Irene herself was confused when asked like that.
“Is it a term of endearment from you to me?”
Irene’s eyes widened in disbelief, coinciding with someone entering the room without permission.
“Hi, Sebastian.” Boonie appeared there, scowling at the security guard who accompanied her. “I’m so annoyed. Why couldn’t I meet you? We had an appointment, right?”
Bella tapped her fingers on the edge of the table deliberately, disregarding Sebastian’s repeated glares at her. She didn’t care if Sebastian called her rude. She was annoyed! Why did they have to have lunch at a restaurant like this? It’s not like Bella was being picky and only wanted to eat at expensive restaurants. It was the food in front of her that looked much more genuine and delicious compared to the tempting package of fried chicken that had been tempting her since her arrival.
“The beef soup is delicious, Bella,” Irene said, gently patting the uncomfortable child’s shoulder. “You’re hungry, right? I’ve ordered ice cream for dessert.”
“I want fried chicken,” Bella pouted. “I don’t want soupy dishes. We had chicken soup for lunch at school.”
Irene smiled faintly. “How about crispy fried shrimp?”
Bella thought for a while before nodding softly.
“Okay, I’ll order that for you,” Irene said. Once again, she lovingly ruffled the girl’s hair.
Irene tried to be patient as Bella’s mood suddenly took a nosedive. It was probably because Bella didn’t eat the chicken she ordered, that’s why she was sulking. Even though Irene had ordered a considerable amount. She thought Bella would ask for more snacks. And she hadn’t forgotten that they also had the mocha float and mango that they both loved, ready to be enjoyed.
Irene couldn’t refuse when Sebastian asked her to join them. Even though they wouldn’t be sitting together at the same table where the boss sat with his girlfriend, um… Irene had to admit that Boonie was the boss’s girlfriend, right? So, it was true that Sebastian had another appointment outside with someone else? Damn, why did Irene have to be so stupid and pick out clothes that she thought would suit Sebastian perfectly?
God! If only Irene could curse her own stupidity, she would have done it since earlier. But she couldn’t because ever since Sebastian arrived in the morning, she became more fascinated. When the Raptor was calm, he was incredibly captivating. Silent, focused, serious, not demanding too much, and the most enjoyable sight for Irene’s eyes; his handsomeness multiplied by a thousand.
She admitted it wholeheartedly.
“Where are you going?” Sebastian asked, making Irene startle. She adjusted her glasses first while pushing aside all her thoughts about Bella and Sebastian. She smiled awkwardly, where the corners of her eyes happened to catch the gaze of Sebastian’s date, who was looking at her with a hostile expression. Although Sebastian didn’t give her that kind of look, you know!
Irene’s hands clenched tightly. A creeping fear gradually took hold of her. Boonie’s gaze was something she could still remember since a long time ago. It wasn’t easy to forget even though she had tried to push it away. The trauma from the past had left a strong mark.
“Do you want to order the fried shrimp for Miss Bella?” Irene lowered her head slightly. “Excuse me.”
Sebastian could only watch as his assistant walked away. He had planned to bring the two of them who were sitting separately from him together. Enjoying lunch at Amaris because, according to Sebastian, their beef soup was amazing. Despite the debates that would surely ensue, Sebastian enjoyed it. At least the intense barrage with the board of directors and the ongoing findings that disturbed him could calm down with their presence.
Besides, it seemed like Bella was comfortable being close to Irene, right?
