Grace replied indifferently, “I did hate you, but it has now faded and I feel nothing. I only paid for your mother’s medical bills to return the favor. We don’t owe each other anything from now on.”

Sean instantly felt a surge of emotion that he could not explain. There was embarra**ment, agony, and regret… It was as though the difference between them was getting more and more distinct.

When a person stood tall enough, things they once valued were no longer valued.

It was just like how she was standing tall right now while he had become increasingly humble and insignificant. He was so down and out that he did not deserve her hatred for him.

“I didn’t save you… to get something in return,” Sean said with melancholy.

“I know,” said Grace. She had seen the surveillance footage after the incident. He probably saved her without even seeing who she was.

“After finding out that Lily framed you back then and put you in prison, I thought of… seeing you, but afterward…” Sean paused and gazed at Grace. “Grace, can you… forgive me? did you wrong back then!”

He should have said this to her five years ago. It was five years  too late now.

Grace was the woman he once loved. He loved her sincerely without thinking about family background or benefits. He pursued her simply because he liked her.

However, the accident afterward made him understand the power and allure of benefits. He could easily abandon the person he once loved and fall in love with another woman for wealth and benefits!

Looking back now, he found it ridiculous that his love had been so fragile.

“If that’s all you have to say, then it’s unnecessary. Sean, I don’t hate you because it’s unnecessary. But I won’t forgive someone who once hurt me either. I paid for your mother’s medical bills today, and I think it’s best we don’t see each other anymore,” Grace said indifferently, her voice sounding so calm.

However, Sean felt as though her voice was pressing down on his chest like a heavy mountain, so much so that he was almost out of breath.

He was tempted to take a few more steps forward to get closer to her, but the bodyguard beside her raised his hand and stopped him again.

Sean looked at the hand stretched out in front of his face. She was so close to him, but he could not even walk up to her.

Back then, he thought he could resist the pressure from his family and be with her. However, he destroyed this genuine and sincere relationship in the end.

“Grace… I really did love you,” muttered Sean. His hand was still reaching out, but he could not touch Grace no matter what.

Grace quietly looked at the 35-year-old man in front of her who was going through so many hardships.

Despite his words, her heart did not stir. “Sean, I wish you had never loved me.”

With that said, Grace turned and left.

The bodyguard also followed Grace and left. Sean staggerec and stood blankly in the same spot until he could no longer

see her figure.

‘She said… she won’t forgive me. She said… she wished I had never loved her!’

He had only loved two women in his life. He destroyed the love he shared with one of the women while the other dragged him and the Stevens family to the pits of hell!

In the end, he was left with nothing! Nothing!

“Haha… Hahaha…” Sean laughed bitterly, clenching his hands at his sides while his nails pierced into his palms. He did it so that he could still feel alive!

In a nearby corner, Zoe Stevens put away her phone smugly. She had taken some photos of her brother and Grace together. In some angles, the bodyguard could not be seen. If others were to see these photos, they would think that only Grace and her brother were present.

If she posted these photos on the internet, it would create a huge buzz. Coupled with the fact that her brother saved Grace… The netizens would learn about how the ex-boyfriend had saved his ex-girlfriend. The ex-girlfriend was leading a luxurious life while the ex-boyfriend was down and out. His injury also made it hard for him to make a living.

Such a topic was bound to create a huge buzz!

Many people would compare the Stevens family to the past, which would be embarra**ing. However, she had suffered enough poverty in these past few years. She did not care about the embarra**ment as long as she could get money!

What she wanted was for the topic to go viral. Then the Reed family would ‘repay’ them with a large sum of money for saving Grace’s life!

While Zoe Stevens was happily thinking about it and about to leave the scene, she was suddenly surrounded by several strangers in black suits.

“What… What do you want?” Zoe Stevens instantly felt uneasy.

One of them said, “Young master Reed said to hand it over.”

‘Jason?’ Zoe Stevens was surprised. Pretending to be confused, she asked, “What? What do you mean? I don’t know what you mean.”

They did not seem to bother explaining to her. Two of them grabbed her, and one reached into her pocket to take out her phone.

“Let go of me… Are you trying to rob me in broad daylight? shouted Zoe Stevens.

Her voice instantly immediately attracted the attention of everyone in the hospital. Sean also saw what was going on. He rushed over when he saw his sister being surrounded by several men. “What are you trying to do?”

They said, “Your sister took photos of something she shouldn’t have. She wouldn’t give us her phone, so this is the only way to do it.”

“What do you mean by that? What did she take photos of? Who the hell are you guys? Let go of my sister!” shouted Sean.

“They’re my men, they won’t let go unless I tell them to!” A cold voice rang behind Sean, making his blood freeze for a moment.

‘This voice belongs to… Jason!”

He was the man who suppressed the Stevens family and made them lose everything. He was also the man Grace had fallen in love with. He was the last person one should mess with… in Emerald City!

Sean turned around almost in slow motion, only to find that everyone around him had disappeared. A row of security guards was standing in the distance, keeping everyone away!

Sure enough, it was… Jason! He could even command the hospital’s security guards and vacate a space like this in a matter of seconds!

The bodyguard brought over Zoe Stevens’s phone to Jason.

Jason easily unlocked the phone as there was no pa**word. He scrolled through the photo album and saw the photos Zoe Stevens had taken just now. A sarcastic smile appeared on the corners of his mouth, but his eyes were cold.

“See for yourself the photos she took!” Jason tossed the phone to Sean.

Sean’s expression instantly changed when he saw the photos on her phone. He turned to look at Zoe Stevens with disbelief in his eyes. “Zoe, why… Why did you take these photos?”

Zoe Stevens’s eyes glimmered. She seemed to be a little guilty “Brother, I just randomly took them!”

“You hid here to take them. You call that random?” Sean said grimly. He could sort of figure out the purpose of his sister taking these photos.

It was all the more embarra**ing since he could figure out why.

“I’m telling you, forget about asking for money, I willingly saved Grace, and I never expected anything in return!” said Sean. Even so, Grace still paid for their mother’s medical bills!

“Brother, Grace owes our family. If it weren’t for her, would our family turn out like this?” said Zoe Stevens as she blamed Grace.

Jason suddenly sneered. “So do I owe the Stevens family too?! was the one who went after the Stevens family.”

Zoe Stevens’s face instantly paled. How could she forget about him? The Stevens family had problems at the beginning because of Jason.

Sean took a deep breath and said to Jason, “Mr. Reed, I don’t want to talk about it anymore. I’m not going to ask Grace for anything.”

Jason slowly walked up to Sean, his handsome face full of cold sternness. “Since you’re not going to ask for anything, don’t appear in front of Grace again-let alone talk to her about your memories together. Even if you did love her once, she’ll never have anything to do with you again after this!”

  49. I happened to chance upon this novel a week ago and only started reading then and what a read. Author i can say this was one of the most compelling reads I’ve read on this sight. It was a page turner I congratulate you. I can totally understand the frustration of loyal readers who waited long for updates please keep the chapters coming the last thing wants is to lose the momentum – much better if the novel was complete and one could read it in one go. Looking forward to chapters

  52. Where is Lily, the mastermind of all the catastrppophies that have befallen the Steven’s family? Is she with the third child, or is the third child the boy Grace met at the Amusement Park?
    I just feel sorry for Sean. As for the sister, she deserves what she is going through. Thank you Jason for loving Grace so much. The cup of the mother of the adopted Reed Family’s daughter will soon fill up.
