Generally, there were all kinds of people in casinos, so the security guards had to be tough in order to subdue any troublemakers. If the security guards got involved, Flossie could not defeat them given her fragility, but she couldn’t just give up like that since she had gotten this far. She caught up to Victor and grabbed his arm, then whispered, “Mr. Reed, I’m not here to make a scene. I just want to know where he is. Tell me where he is, then I’ll go.” “I told you I don’t know!” Victor jerked his hand out of her grip impatiently, and Flossie almost lost her balance. “Didn’t I make myself clear? I don’t know anything, so there’s no point in you asking me.” He was not ignorant, but he was afraid to admit that he knew. Even if he knew, he had to grit his teeth and claim he didn’t.
Flossie was good at judging people, so she knew that Victor was hiding something from her. Enraged, she snarled, “You admitted you lost, but you refuse to fulfill your end of the agreement… Don’t blame me for being rude then.”
“What are you trying to do?” Victor sneered. “Are you planning to make a scene?” “Honestly, I don’t want to make a big deal out of this, so I’m trying to negotiate with you. If you refuse to cooperate… then I might make a scene. ” Flossie’s eyes glittered dangerously. “I’ll give you three seconds to honor your promise to me, or else there’s going to be trouble… Three, two, one!” When she didn’t receive any response from Victor, Flossie turned over the gambling table, creating a mess. “Ladies and gentlemen, please leave. I’ve got something to discuss with Victor.” One was not enough; Flossie walked over to another gambling table and turned it over even though there were people there in the middle of a gambling game.
Flossie was being reckless, and Victor had no idea how to handle the situation. “Hey, do you have a death wish? Stop this right now! I don’t want any bloodshed here!” Victor went to Flossie and grabbed her wrist anxiously.
“You brought this onto yourself, so there’s no use blaming me. It’s easy to start but difficult to end.” Flossie shoved Victor’s hand away and kept overturning the game tables.
As one of the top casinos in Beach City, the equipment in Osk Casino was of the highest quality, so Flossie’s actions had undoubtedly created losses. All the security guards rushed over when they heard the noise, and were about to restrain Flossie when Victor heard an amused voice in his earphone: “Let her destroy them.”
Victor swallowed and politely replied, “Alright, we won’t meddle in it.”
Flossie had almost destroyed all the game tables, but Victor just followed her indifferently. He neither stopped her nor gave her an answer.
Harvey stopped Flossie because he couldn’t take it anymore. “Just forget it,
Ms. Flossie. Maybe he really doesn’t know. After all, many things happen in this casino, so maybe he overlooked it. If you keep on destroying things, well just need to pay them compensation.” “No, you can destroy whatever you want. We won’t ask for compensation.” Victor walked over to them and smiled respectfully. “We were about to buy new equipment and didn’t know what to do with the old ones, so feel free to destroy them for fun and make the best out of the old equipment.”
Flossie placed her hands on her waist from exhaustion and gaped at Victor. “Are you out of your mind?” If she hadn’t just recovered, she would have beaten the truth out of Victor.
“Yeah, I am. I shouldn’t have made a bet with you. I lost but I didn’t fulfill my promise, so it’s normal for you to vent your anger. I understand.” Victor bowed deeply to Flossie.
“Did someone give you an order?” Flossie rushed over and grabbed Victor’s arms desperately. “Is he here? Does he ask you to indulge me like this?” She had destroyed the game tables to make a scene and lure that person out, and it seemed like her idea had worked. He must be observing her quietly from somewhere.
He must have given an order when the security guards had surrounded her and were trying to harm her. He was trying to protect her… that must be it!
“What… are you talking about? I don’t understand.” Victor smiled awkwardly, looking confused.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about! You looked like you wanted to beat me up earlier, but now you’re being humble and polite. You must have received an order from your superior…” Flossie glanced at Victor’s earphones and snatched them from him swiftly. Putting them on, she demanded, “Did you give an order and ask him not to hurt me? Who are you? How can you hide like this and refuse to face me?”
Her only response was silence.
Infuriated, she bellowed, “I don’t care who you are, just come out and face me! What’s the point of hiding like a coward? Can’t we resolve our problems face-to-face? Halston, I won’t forgive you if it’s you on the other end of this… You make a fool of me again and again; Do you think I won’t get hurt or sad?” Despite all her grievances and complaints, there was still no response. It made her feel humiliated and embarrassed.
Victor carefully said, My earphones connect to my boss. I guess you don’t know my boss…” “Is that so? I must have lost my mind then!” Defeated, Flossie let go of Victor’s earphones and smiled bitterly. “I’m sorry. I just came out of the hospital and there’s something wrong with my brain. Just let me know the cost of whatever I destroyed, and I’ll compensate you.”
Harvey walked over and supported Flossie, looking concerned. “Are you alright, Ms. Flossie? You look pale. Did you just come out of the hospital? You should have told me. I wouldn’t have brought you here if I knew you were still sick. I…”
Harvey kept on talking but his voice had started to fade into the background for Flossie. Her mind was blank, and her body felt heavy. Her eyelids fluttered, and she fell forward.
“Ms. Flossie! What’s wrong, Ms. Flossie?! Ms. Flossie!”
Flossie woke up in a strange place. She opened her eyes, wincing as her head throbbed and her eyes ached. She must have been too stressed out earlier.
“You’re awake! Thank goodness. If you hadn’t woken up, this casino would have to bear the consequences.” Victor heaved a sigh of relief as he approached Flossie.
“Where am I?” Flossie sat up and looked around cautiously.
It was a private room that looked like a bedroom, and it looked very intimidating with its dark walls and furniture.
“This is my boss’ room. He rests here sometimes when he comes over for inspections. You had fainted earlier, so my boss told me to let you rest here.”
“Your boss?” Flossie frowned. “Can I meet him?”
Victor crossed his arms, saying respectfully, “Of course you can meet him.
My boss admires your courage greatly and would like to befriend you.”
Flossie was still a little weak, and her lips were pale as she sneered. “If your boss is who I think he is, then he’s very pretentious!” Halston and her had gone through so much; If he still wanted to play these childish games, she would never forgive him.
“Umm… that’s between you and my boss. I don’t know what happened since I’m just his subordinate.” Victor smiled awkwardly and said, “I’ll make an appointment for you if you really want to see my boss. Can you wait here?” “Do I need to make an appointment?” Flossie laughed bitterly, clenching her fists and faking a smile. “Sure, please help me make an appointment. Tell him that I’ll chop off his head and kick it around like a ball if I don’t see him in an hour.”
Victor swallowed, frightened by this seemingly elegant but violent woman. However, what shocked him even more was that his usually demanding and fussy boss was very indulgent towards her. “Okay, I’ll inform my boss now.” He bowed and hurriedly exited the room.
After a night’s rest, Flossie felt much more energetic. Besides, she felt better knowing she was going to see Halston soon. Her frustration and stress had faded away. She pushed the blanket aside and went to the washroom. She looked at the mirror and frowned. Her face was pale, but her eyes were still quite striking. She was eager to see how Halston would react when he saw her eyes.
She washed her face and got herself ready. After washing her face, her skin looked more tender. She looked around and saw only an electric toothbrush, a towel, and a pair of male slippers in the washroom. It meant that the master of the room slept alone there, and Flossie felt slightly relieved. She knew that Halston always behaved decently and was never a ladies’ man, so those photos must be a misunderstanding. She would ask him about it when she met him. She smoothed down her hair and rinsed her mouth. She was looking forward to their meeting more than her eye transplant surgery.
They had agreed to meet in an hour, and right before the hour was up, the doorbell rang. Suddenly, Flossie felt as nervous as she had been on her wedding day. “Calm down, Flossie. Be aggressive, and don’t let him get the upper hand. You need to interrogate him about the photos!” Flossie kept on reminding herself before opening the door, but tears still ran down her cheeks. Despite how much hurt he had put her through, she just wanted him to come back safe and sound.
Flossie wanted him alive even if they were not a couple. She turned the doorknob, then swung open the door and screamed, “Halston, you jerk! You finally come back, and you-“
However, when she saw who was standing at the door, she was stunned. The man standing before her was stunned too.
“What… Why are you here? Is there anyone else with you?” Flossie awkwardly looked behind him, then looked around.
The man was awkward too. “No, it’s… just me. Victor told me that you wanted to meet me, and I was happy because I thought… I thought you really wanted to see me!” 1
Disappointment and sadness overwhelmed Flossie, and she mumbled, “Not exactly.” She had never planned on meeting him. Their relationship was ordinary, at most best friends or peers in the same field.
Justin wore a long black windbreaker and scratched his head awkwardly.” You can’t even lie to me and say you wanted to see me? We’re comrades who fought for each other, you know!” “When did we do that? I don’t remember.” Flossie’s tone was distant. Her disappointment at Halston not being here had ruined her mood entirely.
“Do you forget how we teamed up and killed those gangsters and hackers in Newrest? I brought you to meet my grandpa as his future granddaughterin-law, and he even gave you an army. I stood against my family to let you go, and nearly got killed. Of course that means we fought for each other!” Justin grumbled, sounding like he had been bottling up all these grievances inside him for a long time. Although it sounded like he was making a joke, he knew that he had suffered a lot to reach Flossie.
When Halston and Flossie had gotten back together, his family had taken it out on him. Finally, he had gained a firm foothold in his family and could go to Flossie.
“Let’s not bring up those memories, it felt like something from a dream. Those things happened a long time ago.” Flossie waved in embarrassment. She was an outstanding hacker, and her nickname, Phoenix, could scare the top five hundred international companies out of their wits. Government officials were also cautious of her, and her reputation as a hacker had been glorious. However, her body had become weak, she’d only just got her sight back, and she seemed to be pining for a man who didn’t want to see her. It was humiliating. 1 “But you did all that…” Justin carefully observed Flossie, noticing her new blue eyes. Contrary to the others, he felt sorry for her. “It seems like a lot happened when I wasn’t around. You must have suffered a lot, right?”
Flossie looked up at Justin and was moved by his concern. She smiled as she said softly, “It’s okay, I brought this onto myself.”
It had been a long time since Flossie and Justin last met, and Flossie was surprised to bump into him here. Once she had calmed down, she suggested taking a tour of the large casino with him as her guide.
Osk Casino was considered one of the top casinos in Beach City. Flossie had heard about it but had not visited it or looked it up-she hadn’t expected that Justin was the boss of the famous Osk Casino though. “It’s good that you’re a boss at such a young age. I thought the owner of this casino was an old man given this extravagance, decoration, and style.” After seeing all the five floors of the building, Flossie gave Justin a thumbs- up. Justin was three years younger than Flossie, but he had achieved much more than her.
“Stop teasing me-my achievements are nothing compared to yours. Plus, I didn’t gain this business. My grandpa set it up first, and I’m just enjoying its success.” Justin smiled humbly.
“But as a Baldwin, you successfully established a large casino in Beach City where the Guajardos rule everything. Is the Guajardo family going downhill despite its status as the head of The Great Eight of Beach City?” Flossie was secretly trying to pry information from him.
“What does it have to do with Osk Casino? I don’t understand your logic.”
Justin slid his hands into his pockets and blinked innocently. 1
Flossie, however, knew that he would be aware of the situation. “Oh, stop playing dumb. You’re clearly pretending!” Flossie rolled her eyes at Justin.” Your family has always fought against the Guajardo family, so of course it’s connected!” 2
It was a well-known fact that the Guajardo and Baldwin families were enemies.
The Guajardo family would not do business in North City, and the Baldwin family would not do business in Beach City. It was not a secret. However,
Osk Casino was developing rapidly in Beach City, which meant that the Baldwin family had either suppressed the Guajardo family or both families had made peace. However, she had not heard any news about this despite being close to the Guajardos.
“Just because we fought in the past doesn’t mean we have to keep fighting in the future,” Justin said vaguely. “Plus, you’re stuck in the center of this, so we have to make peace even if we fight!” “Can you stop making me mad? You’re stressing me out.” Flossie gripped her chest and said exaggeratedly, “You’ve really grown up, haven’t you? I asked you an honest question, but you’re playing around with me. Oh, everything hurts… I can’t hold on any longer.”
Justin immediately grabbed Flossie’s arm and asked nervously, “Are you okay? Do you need me to drive you to the hospital?”
