Flossie kept her back to Jovan and didn’t move. “Take the tray away; I’m not going to eat anything. I’m not punishing you either. I just want to go on a hunger strike and die so I won’t be at your mercy.” It wasn’t known if she had said those words to infuriate Jovan or if she actually meant it, but it was infuriating and pitiful.
Jovan clenched his fists and tried to calm himself, taking a while to suppress his anger. Taking a deep breath, he said lightly, “There are a lot of ways for you to kill yourself if you want to die. For example, you can eat so much that you die from it, or you can sleep so much that you die in comfort, or you can scold me every day until you die of contentment. Anything is better than dying from a hunger strike! Don’t you know that people who die of hunger are the least prestigious among the spirits?”
Flossie was intrigued by this statement and asked, “Why’s that?” “It’s because they are the weakest. People who hang themselves to death have deep resentment, and people who drown become soaked and large. People who jump off buildings to kill themselves are the fiercest… Only the people who die of hunger will get bullied after death because they don’t have enough to eat,” Jovan explained seriously, making Flossie smile in amusement. Jovan sighed in relief and hurriedly handed her a piece of dessert. “It makes sense, right? So, eat more and smile more so you can become a smiling spirit. That’s the best thing you can be in hell. How great would that be?” “Shut up. I’ll eat, okay?” After starving for a day, Flossie’s belly was growling. She felt like giving up on her hunger strike the moment Jovan came in with the supper, but didn’t want to admit defeat out of pride. She wanted to go through with it for at least a day. However, Jovan’s spirit theory made her give in. Flossie felt that she might as well eat well instead of becoming a weak and hungry spirit. If she found any spirit an eyesore in hell, she could at least fight them. After all, she would be more powerful if she ate more.
Flossie accepted the cake and started munching on it. “Mm, it’s nice.” “Of course, Lisa made it based on your taste preference. She didn’t add any preservatives or flavoring either, so it’s both tasty and nutritious.” Jovan was happy that Flossie was enjoying her food.
“Lisa is a good woman, and you’re the only one she cares about. You should try dating Lisa instead of getting involved with a vicious woman like Jessanna. Don’t let her down.” While eating, Flossie tried to persuade Jovan earnestly.
Jovan’s expression twisted in frustration. “You’re a good woman too, so why can’t I start something with you? Why do you want to let me down?” “Umm…” Flossie was at a loss for words, and pursed her lips awkwardly.” I’m your sister-in-law, and I don’t like you. Why do you have to be so stubborn?” “People have to love each other before becoming a couple, so there’s no point in you trying to match me with some other woman. Many women sincerely love me, but do I have to keep them all?” Jovan sounded upset. Flossie had been trying to push Lisa and Jovan together for the past few days, and it disgusted Jovan. Lisa was not bad, but Jovan was upset by the way Flossie was trying to get rid of him.
“Don’t be mad, it’s just a suggestion. Just forget it if you don’t want to.” Flossie did not expect Jovan’s sudden anger, and felt that maybe she had gone too far this time. She sighed and said sincerely, “I’m sorry for not taking your feelings into account. I’ll stop trying to match you with another woman. Honestly, I don’t care who you’re with, as long as it’s not Jessanna.
She’s not a nice person, and you’ll just get worse if you’re with her!” Flossie nagged Jovan as if she was his mother because she was afraid that the stubborn man would become wicked under Jessanna’s influence. He might become a total villain instead of just an annoying person.
“You don’t want me to pick Jessanna? Is it because she’s more threatening and you’re afraid that she’ll win me over?” Jovan asked calmly, curious about Flossie’s vehemence. Jovan was usually quite casual when it came to romance, but he was always attentive when it came to Flossie. He could easily sense when Flossie’s emotions towards him changed, even if it was slight.
Flabbergasted and enraged, Flossie decided to be frank. “Yeah, I’m afraid that she’ll win you over. After all, she could even fool Halston around, so what would she do with you?” “Don’t worry, my willpower is stronger than Halston’s. No woman can get me except you. Jessanna and I…” After a pause, Jovan said lightly, “We’re just getting in touch for a while. Once I get what I want, I’ll stop contacting her.” “What do you want?” Flossie became curious. “What does Jessanna have that you want?” “Umm… I can’t tell you that.” Jovan wanted to surprise Flossie with it.
“I don’t care about what you’re conspiring with her, but just don’t fall into her trap. She’s very complicated.” Flossie had a lingering fear of Jessanna because Jessanna was the cause of the many hardships Flossie and Halston had been through. At first, that troublemaker had disappeared, but now she was back again. It made Flossie feel uneasy…
Jessanna successfully appeared in public as herself three days later, and grandly joined Guajardo Enterprise as a member of the board of directors.
Leia had been trying her best to search for Flossie for the past few days, but she couldn’t get in touch with Halston, Xavier, or the others. She was feeling frustrated and hopeless. One day, she saw a live broadcast of Jessanna joining the board of directors of Guajardo Enterprise, and was stunned. “What the hell? The troublemaker is alive? And she became a core member of Guajardo Enterprise?” For a moment, endless theories popped up in Leia’s mind. She figured that Jessanna might have something to do with Flossie’s disappearance, which might be why she had appeared after Flossie had gone missing. It was just too much of a coincidence.
Hence, Leia hurriedly drove to Guajardo Enterprise, and tried to barge in.
Naturally, the security guards stopped her, and she screamed, “Get out of my way! I want to see the person in charge here and that hag Jessanna!” “I don’t care who you are, you can’t just barge into Guajardo Enterprise. If you don’t leave, we’ll make you!” The security guards blocked the door of the company and refused to let Leia approach it.
Just when Leia was at her wits’ end, she saw Jovan about to enter the company. She had only met Jovan at parties, so they weren’t exactly friends. He was usually a bit of a playboy and would tease Leia, but that was about it. However, Jovan was also Halston’s cousin, which meant that Leia could be considered Jovan’s friend. With that thought, she rushed towards Jovan. “It’s been a while, Jovan! How have you been? Are you going to Guajardo Enterprise too? What a coincidence! Let’s go in together.” Leia held Jovan’s arm as if they were best friends and tried to sneak into the building with him.
However, Jovan just frowned at Leia, then instructed the security guards,” Take her away.”
The two security guards accepted the order and carried Leia out of the place.
“Hey, what are you guys doing? Don’t touch me! I’ll sue you for harassment!
” Leia yelled at Jovan, “You’re ungrateful! We dined together, and your sister -in-law is my best friend! How could you do this to me?”
Hearing that, Jovan stopped and asked Leia, “You’re here for Flossie?” “Why else would I be here?” Leia angrily struggled out of the security guards ’ grasp and glared at Jovan. “I wouldn’t have come to such a lousy place if it wasn’t for Flossie.”
Jovan knew that Leia was only concerned about Flossie, so he spoke gentler, “Go home. Flossie is safe. She eats well, sleeps well, and is happy.”
His words alerted Leia, and she grabbed Jovan’s arm. “How do you know that? Did you… take Flossie away?”
Jovan remained quiet, neither admitting or denying it.
Leia’s eyes widened and she shrieked, “Oh, I knew it was you! You’re a kidnapper and a pervert! Where are you keeping Flossie? Let her go!” She had suspected Jovan from the beginning because it was a well-known fact that he had ulterior motives toward Flossie. Flossie had even lived abroad with Jovan for half a year away from others. He probably couldn’t bear being separated from Flossie so he kidnapped her again.
“Yes, I did take her, but I don’t plan to let her go. What I can tell you is that she’s doing fine, and I’ll try my best to make her better. Please leave if that’s all you have to say.” Jovan’s expression was menacing. If not for the fact that Leia was Flossie’s best friend, he would have made her suffer.
“How can you be so arrogant after kidnapping someone?! Listen-I’m not leaving until I get what I came here for. I’ll even set this place on fire if that’s the only way I’ll get Flossie back!” Leia snarled, gripping Jovan’s arm tightly and refusing to let him go.
“Let go!” Jovan had met all kinds of people before, but this was the first time he had met someone this relentless. It frustrated him. “If you don’t let go, I’ll rough you up. I’m no gentleman, and I’m not afraid to beat up women.
“I’m not some kind of weak woman you can easily scare off. You can beat me up, and I can do the same to you. In short… I won’t let you go if you don’t let her go!” Leia gripped Jovan’s arm firmly and refused to let go.
Stuck in their stalemate, Jovan anxiously checked the time. The general meeting was about to start soon. He clenched his fist, wanting to punch Leia.
“Stop!” A voice roared from behind them. They turned around just as Xavier stepped forward and punched Jovan’s chin. “Don’t you dare touch her!”
Jovan staggered slightly, but Leia still refused to let his arm go. It vexed him greatly and he snapped at Xavier, “Control your woman, Mr. Stuart, she’s making a scene! I’ll sue her if she keeps this up!” “I’m not letting go. Go ahead and call the cops; I’ll just ask them to arrest you!” Leia was surprised to see Xavier, but she couldn’t speak to him because she was scared Jovan would run away if she let go of him. “Help me catch him, Xavier, he has Flossie! Don’t let him get away!” Leia yelled at Xavier.
A vein popped in Jovan’s forehead, and he bellowed, “You clowns had better not delay me! I’m doing this for Flossie, and if she misses this chance, she might be blind forever!”
Caught in a dilemma, Xavier looked at Leia and Jovan. He didn’t know who to listen to-both of them just wanted the best for Flossie.
“You’re just messing with us! Flossie will be in the dark forever with you around her. You’re just a pervert, and nobody knows what crazy things you’ve done to her! Oh, I don’t want to imagine it… I can’t let Flossie stay with you!” Leia became furious just thinking about it, and without warning, lowered her head and bit Jovan’s wrist.
Naturally, Jovan wanted to reciprocate, but Xavier instinctively rushed over to protect Leia. It was a mess as the three of them tussled. At that moment, Jessanna arrived at the lobby on the ground floor, surrounded by executives.
Leia immediately turned to her and howled, “You’re still alive, you troublemaker! I owe you a beating!” Leia let go of Jovan and rushed toward Jessanna.
“What-What do you want?” Jessanna didn’t expect such a sudden attack, and couldn’t dodge in time.
“What do I want…” Leia pulled Jessanna’s hair and punched her. “I want to whack you up, of course! I already told you that if you ever appeared in front of me, I would beat you up!”
Jessanna’s self-defense skills and temper were less violent than Leia’s, so she couldn’t fight back. All she could do was scream. “Let go of me, you crazy woman! I’m going to call the cops to arrest you! Oh, you’re going to ruin my hair. Let go, you harpy! Guards, do your job and get rid of her!”
The security guards moved forward to help, but Jovan gave them a look, stopping them.
Xavier and Jovan made peace temporarily as they watched Leia and Jessanna fight in interest.
“I heard that you’re Leia’s boyfriend. I have to say, your taste in women is rather unique. Are you a masochist?” Jovan crossed his arms and flashed Xavier a pitying look.
Helpless, Xavier shook his head. “I never thought I would fall for someone like her, but now… I think it’s okay if it’s her. I can’t help it-l’ve fallen in love with her.” “Tsk, what a love-struck fool! This thing must be contagious-Halston is hopeless, and you’re seriously ill,” Jovan teased and gloated.
“Well, I can’t be compared to you. You donated your blood and eyes for Flossie’s sake. You take the prize when it comes to being a lovesick fool!”
Xavier smirked and gave Jovan a thumbs-up.
Jovan cleared his throat awkwardly, regretting starting the conversation.
Yes, he was still a love-struck fool… He had fallen in love with Flossie.
“I heard that you and Quinton have been looking forthat guy. Did you get any news?” Jovan changed the topic and asked Xavier. The news of Halston going missing in the remote mountains to search for herbs for Flossie had spread far and wide in Beach City. Some people said that he had died after falling off a cliff. They claimed that the wolves had eaten his corpse, and even his bones could not be found, other people said he was hiding on purpose because he wanted to come back and snatch back Guajardo Enterprise. However, there was no accurate conclusion, and it made Jovan anxious and worried.
“It’s none of your business. Don’t think you’ll be leading a worry-free life in Guajardo Enterprise because he’s gone missing. You’d better behave yourself and not cause trouble like before, or else Halston will come after you once he comes back!”
In the past, Jovan manipulated Halston’s feigned death to snatch away the company, but it had been Halston’s trap. He had waited for Jovan to walk into it, and the ending had been delightful. However, this time…
Xavier and Quinton had worked with the villagers living in the mountains to look for Halston every day, but they failed to find any clues related to him. He was missing, and it broke Xavier’s heart. Xavier knew that Halston would not easily fall to death, but right now, it was the only plausible option.
Halston would not go missing and give them no news if he had not fallen to his death.
“I know even if you don’t tell me. It must be bad… You haven’t found him, right?” Jovan asked slowly. “You wouldn’t look this worried if you had. I believe what the rumors say-my pitiful cousin might have fallen off a cliff and got eaten by beasts.” “Shut up!” Enraged, Xavier threw another punch at Jovan.
A sigh escaped Jovan. “You might not believe me, but I don’t want him dead. I have yet to fight him fairly, so I won’t be happy if I win like this.” The real competition between Jovan and Halston had not started, so Jovan didn’t want things to end with a forfeit.
Meanwhile, Leia was exhausted from beating Jessanna up, and accidentally knocked off Jessanna’s mask. Her eyes widened when she saw Jessanna’s scarred face. “You…” Leia felt uneasy seeing Jessanna lying on the ground with her hair messed and her face scarred. ‘ How did your face end up like this?” At first, Leia had thought that Jessanna was just wearing the mask to look cool, but now she knew the truth… It seemed like Jessanna had not had it easy during the time of her disappearance. For some reason, Leia suddenly felt sorry for Jessanna. Ugh, was something wrong with her? How could she pity such a bad person?
“You should ask your best friend since you’re so curious.” Calmly, Jessanna put her mask back on, hatred gleaming in her eyes. “I’m not a good person, but neither is your friend. She should be grateful that I’m alive. If not, she would become a murderer.” “W-What do you mean? Don’t slander Flossie!” “Go back and ask her then…” Jessanna sneered and added, “If you want to know where she is, I can tell you.” Then, she exposed the address of Jovan’s manor. “She’s enjoying her life there, and doesn’t want to leave…” Jessanna purposely tried to sow discord between Leia and Flossie. “You’re worried sick about her, but she’s being all lovey-dovey with her rebound. Your friendship with her is just one-sided.” “Nonsense!” Leia protested. “Flossie must be locked up. She knows that I’m worried about her, and would have contacted me if she could.” “Go and see for yourself if you don’t believe me. Then, you’ll know how pretentious your so-called bestie is!”
Then, Jessanna limped away.
