He wouldn’t forgive that cruel person.” Jessanna looked up, her eyes wet with tears, and smirked. “I’m curious. If that actually happened, would you have fallen out with your good brother? Is your so-called brotherhood not as strong as it seems?”
“That would never have happened.” Halston stared at Jessanna and scoffed. “If Tristan was lucky enough to still be alive, he would have seen your true colors, and he wouldn’t have loved you so stubbornly.”
“You’re too naive. You don’t know him well.” Jessanna’s gaze under her mask was crafty and confident. “Do you think your brother didn’t know what kind of a person I was? The place we met was by no means proper, so he knew the kind of woman I was… but he overestimated himself thinking he could save me.
How foolish!”
“Shut up!” Halston couldn’t tolerate Jessanna humiliating his brother. Tristan had died many years ago, and talking about him would only reveal how innocent and pitiful he really was. “Tell me-did you order Tess to poison Flossie?”
Halston’s grip on Jessanna’s neck tightened. Time was life; the more they delayed the more at risk Flossie was. Halston had to get the answer now.
“Yes, I did,” Jessanna said instantly.
“Do you have a death wish? How can you be so wicked?” Halston growled, unable to control his anger.
He didn’t expect Jessanna to be so cruel; she clearly felt no guilt or remorse even though she had harmed another person. Halston was in disbelief.
“Am I wicked?” Jessanna sneered. “I just let her have a taste of her own medicine. She put me in a living hell, so I did the same to her. What have I done wrong?”
“I watched that video. She didn’t push you down the cliff on purpose, she was just trying to protect herself. It was you who tried to kill her!”
“I’m not talking about her pushing me down the cliff…” Jessanna watched Halston calmly, then said nonchalantly, “She put me in a living hell by snatching you away. You and I were a couple, and everything was going smoothly. Even though it was fake, I believed that we would become a real couple one day. But in the end, she snatched you away… You both were already divorced, but she took you away from me. I lost my life that day, and fell into a living hell. How could I not hate her?”
“You’re crazy!” Halston pushed her away in disgust. “I’ve never shown you any affection or promised you anything. It’s all just your wishful thinking, but you blamed it on me. You’re sick.”
“Yeah, I’m sick. I abandoned Tristan, who was sincerely in love with me, and I fell in love with his cold brother. If I didn’t fall in love with you, I would have had a rich and carefree life as Tristan’s widow, but…
I coveted you. So, you’re to be blamed here…” In the past, Jessanna always exaggerated her feelings for Tristan to deepen Halston’s guilt, but now, she didn’t have to hide her feelings anymore. “I should’ve told you long ago how much I loved you, then, I might have the chance to compete against
Flossie. I might have even defeated her. After all, I might not be a good person, but I’m certainly good at seducing men…” While talking, Jessanna approached Halston and tried to hook her arm around his neck.
Naturally, Halston pushed her away. “I thought you would know yourself after so many years. How could
I possibly fall in love with you?” “You won’t?” Jessanna snickered. But I think we’ll be together one day.”
Halston sneered, feeling like Jessanna was crazy and without any self- awareness. “The most pathetic thing someone can do is overestimate themselves. I know what kind of woman I want, and she’s already mine. Even if Flossie never existed, I would never be with you. Not in this life, my next life, or any other life!” Since young, Halston had always attracted women because of his good looks and personality, so he was good at turning women down, but this was the first time he had done it so cruelly. Jessanna had no morals, so he felt he didn’t need to be polite to her.
“Halston, aren’t you afraid your claim will get shot down in flames?” Jessanna grinned at him as if she expected such an answer from him. She had always known that Halston felt nothing for her, that his heart was locked without a key. She could never make him open up to her no matter how hard she tried, and it had nothing to do with Flossie. Halston was right—it was impossible between Halston and
Jessanna even if Flossie was not around.
But love didn’t follow any rules; Tristan had fallen in love with Jessanna the same way Jessanna had fallen in love with Halston. At the same time, Halston loved Flossie. It was an irresolvable stalemate. After Jessanna fell off the cliff and suffered a near-death experience, she had realized the truth.
“I was very silly in the past. I thought it was only a victory if you loved me… but I know better now. It doesn’t matter whether you love me or not-l just need you to be with me. I’ll stop trying to win your heart since I can’t do it. Now, I just want your body…” Jessanna looked Halston up and down amorously, and her dead heart started beating again.
It was a fatal attraction.
“What are you trying to say?” Halston narrowed his eyes, feeling uneasy as he tried to figure out what she was up to. Jessanna had caused so much trouble and come up with so many schemes, so Halston was a little anxious.
Even if he was full of disgust, he couldn’t harm her, and it vexed him greatly.
“Didn’t I make myself clear? I’ve compromised-l won’t ask for your heart, I just want your body. I’ve been coveting you for such a long time and living anonymously until now, I just want to have some fun with you,” Jessanna said teasingly, but her implication was clear.
Both Elijah and Tess watched and listened nearby. They felt embarrassed, but didn’t dare to say anything.
“You’ve clearly lost your mind. Do you have any idea what you’re saying?” Halston frowned, not even bothering to look at the shameless woman. He asked directly, “Hurry up and tell me the poison you drugged her with, and I’ll do my brother a favor and won’t kill you. After that, you can live your life, and
Flossie and I will forget about this affair.”
“Do you really want to send me off like this?” Jessanna sneered. “I should be dead, but I survived until now because there’s something I want. I still haven’t fulfilled my wish, so I don’t care whether I live or not.
Plus, I wouldn’t have gone through so much trouble if I only wanted to live.”
“Cut the crap, Jessanna!” Halston clenched his fists tightly, his eyes bloodshot.” Do you think I can’t do anything about you? The medical field is very advanced now, and I have ways to cure her even if I don’t know what you poisoned her with. And you… have lost your only chance to run away.”
Jessanna didn’t even blink as he threatened her, and became even more arrogant. “Really? Do it then! You can do what Flossie did and push me down the cliff. After all, my life doesn’t matter, so it’s worth it if I die in your hands. But… I just feel bad for Flossie. She has to suffer so much, and she’ll lose her only chance of survival because of your ridiculous chauvinism.”
“How dare you!” Infuriated, Halston raised his fist, but he didn’t punch her. He hissed out a breath and snapped, “So, what is it you want?” At the moment, he couldn’t be irrational—Jessanna could determine
Flossie’s life or death. Jessanna had probably planned all this, so there was no way she would let Halston get what he wanted without something in return.
“Hmm…” Jessanna grinned wickedly. “Well, I think I’ve made myself clear, but since this is an important moment for me, I don’t want others around.”
Then, she glanced at Elijah and Tess, who were standing behind Halston.
“Elijah, take Tess back,” Halston ordered Elijah.
Elijah frowned anxiously. ‘Mr. Guajardo, this woman is clearly mad, you can’t deal with her alone. She might go crazy and-“
“I know what I’m doing.” Halston said coldly, “Go now. Don’t waste time.”
Elijah clenched his fists and glared at Jessanna. Not daring to waste any more time, he pulled Tess down the mountain.
Night soon fell, and the area on the top of the cliff was silent except for the strong breeze. Halston and
Jessanna were alone.
Jessanna became more excited, and got closer to Halston eagerly. “Wonderful! At last, we’re alone. Do you know how long I’ve been looking forward to this moment? I’ve always dreamt of such a day.”
“I told you-stay away from me!” Halston pushed Jessanna away again, telling himself not to push her down the cliff.
Jessanna staggered and nearly fell to the ground. She smoothed her messy hair and looked up again, a sneer on her face. “I haven’t even done anything to you, but you hate me so much. It would have killed you if I did anything to you.”
“My time is short. Tell me… What is it you want?” Halston urged her impatiently.
“Let’s not hurry. It’s a long night, and there’s so much we can do…” Despite Halston’s anger, Jessanna was calm.
“Forget it if you don’t want to say it. I don’t have time to waste on you.” Halston glared at Jessanna coldly and turned to leave. He wasn’t intending to leave, he just wanted to make Jessanna think he was.
“Wait!” Jessanna became anxious as expected, and stopped him immediately.” Shouldn’t you give me something in exchange for the information?”
Speechless, Halston turned back to Jessanna.
“I know that we can’t be a couple. I don’t care about forever as long as I have it once… You have to stay with me from now until tomorrow morning. If you make me happy, I’ll give you the components of the poison,” Jessanna said finally. She hadn’t been teasing Halston earlier-she really did want his body.
“Enough is enough, Jessanna!” Halston’s disgust for her grew. He thought that Jessanna was merely joking, and didn’t know a woman could be this shameless.
“That’s the only thing I want. Stay if you’re willing. If not, you can go back and try to come up with other ways. I want to see if your beloved woman can hold on until you come up with an antidote…” Jessanna sat on a boulder and leisurely played with her hair, then said lightly, “I’ve already died once, so I have a lot of time to waste. I don’t mind getting another person to die with me.”
“You’re mad. You’re out of your mind!” Halston’s eyes were wild. He couldn’t comprehend Jessanna’s request. How could something like this happen to him? How did he even encounter such a crazy woman?
“Calm down, it’s one night in exchange for your beloved woman’s life. It’s not a loss… Plus, my looks aren’t so bad either. Yes, my face is ruined, but my body still looks good.” Then, she stood up and took off her mask, revealing her scarred face.
“Your face…” Halston drew in a startled breath, his body tensing. He had guessed that her face might be injured, but he didn’t expect it to be this serious. No wonder she had such a twisted mind now.
