Chapter 706 – A Second Chance with My Billionaire Love

“Let’s get the test done first.” Xavier didn’t say anything, and just hoped Shirley’s eyes wouldn’t be compatible. If they were, he would have a bigger dilemma on his hands, and he didn’t know how to handle it yet.

“Then… I have to look at you properly now so I don’t forget the way you look. I won’t be able to see you again once they’ve dug my eyes out. Oh, I want to take some pretty photos and look at the sun too, and bid my fans goodbye.” When Shirley said that, she teared up. As the top actress, she was good at moving others.

Even Owen felt sorry for her, and sighed deeply. There were too many tragic things happening. If

Shirley’s eyes matched Flossie’s body, then Shirley would become the pitiful one instead of Flossie. As an outsider, Owen could not bear to hurt any of them.

“Okay, stop wasting time. This isn’t the time for you to put on such a show,” Halston said to Shirley impatiently, “It won’t be too late for you to put on this show when it’s a match.”

When Shirley saw how fierce Halston was, she didn’t move from behind

Xavier. “Xavier, I…”

Xavier’s heart ached, and he clenched his fists and said to Halston, “I hope you can be polite towards her. After all, you all need her.” “It looks like you’ve made up your mind to take her side then, right?”

Halston met Xavier’s gaze and asked coolly.

“That’s right!” Xavier said instantly. “If it’s a match, you can’t hurt her unless she says yes.”

The atmosphere grew tense. Halston and Xavier had been close friends who had been through a lot together, and were loyal to each other.

Unfortunately, they were not on opposing sides again… for a woman. It was similar to what Xavier and

Leia had been facing.

“You finally made a choice. That’s great,” Leia sneered as she stood near Xavier. When she saw how

Xavier had protected Shirley and argued with Halston, the person he respected the most, she finally got some insight into their ambiguous relationship. Xavier had never been disloyal because he had always been in love with Shirley. As for Leia… she was just a tool to help bring the hero and heroine together.

“I didn’t mean it…” Xavier looked at Leia and wanted to explain, but his actions spoke louder.

“That’s not important. Let’s get the test done first!” Leia waved indifferently and went upstairs.

Flossie was in her bedroom on the second floor, lying in bed weakly. She could vaguely hear the fight downstairs, but was too tired to get up and listen to it. Ever since she became blind, she seemed to have lost track of time; it felt like only a day had passed since she had lost her sight.

Leia knocked on the door and walked into the bedroom. “Flossie, how are you feeling?” She walked over and sat down near Flossie’s bed. Her heart ached at the sight of Flossie’s dispirited look.

“I’m fine, I’m just a little tired.” Flossie tried her best to sit up, and leaned against the bed in despair.

Leia found it strange. It had been only a few days, but Flossie had become unusually weak. A

pregnancy couldn’t cause this kind of fatigue, and even if it did, Flossie wouldn’t be so uninterested in the arrival of a child.

“Are you keeping something from US, Flossie? You seem quite weak.” Leia held Flossie’s hand and asked in concern.

“No, I’m just so bored that I got lazy. I’m good,” Flossie took a deep breath and said energetically.

Currently, only she and Owen were aware that she was suffering from heavy metal poisoning. She didn’t tell Halston and Leia about it because she didn’t want them to worry about her.

“Are you tired because of the pregnancy?” Leia asked again. Although it didn’t really make sense, she couldn’t find any other reason. “It’s very tiring when you’re pregnant. How deep a woman’s love is for her man that she would give birth to his children for him! Well, you and Halston really seem to love each other since two weren’t enough and there’s a third on the way. I, on the other hand, am sure I won’t give birth to any man’s child.” “Didn’t Dr. Wagner tell you? I’m not pregnant!” Flossie smiled. “And sometimes having kids is written in the stars. When it’s time, the child will come. I didn’t expect Adie and Abby back then either, and I wasn’t planning to give birth to them initially, but I soldiered through it in the end. I didn’t regret it either.” “What? You’re not pregnant?” Leia was shocked. She hadn’t paid attention to Flossie’s pregnancy lately because she had been busy searching for suitable eyes for

Flossie, but there was no way she wasn’t pregnant. “No, that can’t be. The pregnancy test was positive!” “Pregnancy tests aren’t always accurate. In short… I’m not pregnant.”

Leia could instantly tell that Flossie was lying given how long they had known each other. Refusing to give up, she continued, “No, you must be lying. I bought that test, and I saw you do it. It can’t be wrong-

you must be pregnant. But… you don’t want the child, do you?”

“Ah, why are you asking so many questions?” Flossie sighed wearily. “All you need to know is that there isn’t any child. That’s it.” “So, you’re pregnant, but you don’t want the child. Am I right?” Leia stubbornly asked.

“Yeah, I’m pregnant, but I don’t want the child. Dr. Wagner will help me abort the child right away. Just…

help me handle Halston. Don’t let him find out.” Flossie realized she couldn’t keep it from Leia, so she told her the truth. Maybe Leia could help take care of her after the surgery.

“What? You want an abortion?” Leia’s eyes grew wide in bewilderment. “It’s been only a few days but you’ve changed so much. Weren’t you very happy a while back? Didn’t you want to have the child?”

“People change. You weren’t there when I gave birth to the twins, and I agree with you. It’s exhausting for women to have babies and get pregnant. I don’t want to suffer through that again,” Flossie lied to

Leia.

“I see. It’s alright, I’ll support you!” Leia declared. As expected, Flossie had easily brainwashed Leia. “I understand. Men are just playthings and scumbags. Women shouldn’t have to risk their lives to give birth to babies forthem. Men have it easy-they get to become fathers without any pain. If they like children, all they have to do is play with them. If not, they’ll just ignore them and leave everything to the women to handle. In the end, children will bind US women, so I’ll support you if you don’t want this baby!” “Pfft! You didn’t think so before this. What’s gotten into you?” Flossie snorted in amusement. Leia was certainly different, which Flossie thought might be a result of her sheltered upbringing. It was also the reason why they were best friends. Halston might not understand Flossie’s decision, but Leia could and would support her either way.

“No, I understood it clearly just now,” Leia said softly, clenching her fists in pain. She had been naive-

she had fantasized about being with Xavier and having his children, and then they could be a happy family like Flossie and Halston. However, after tonight, she had become wiser. She was a victim, and people had humiliated and hurt her, but Xavier saw her as the violent abuser instead. Her defenses crumbled the moment Xavier protected Shirley, and that was when she realized that men could easily change. Women shouldn’t have to risk their lives and give birth to children just to keep their relationships going.

“Did you argue with Xavier again?” Flossie knew her best friend well, and gently asked her.

“No, I ended things with him.” A long sigh escaped Leia. “He made a choice tonight… He gave me up.”

Owen went upstairs after he had arranged everything, then asked Flossie to go downstairs for the compatibility test. It was then that Flossie realized that they had secretly called Shirley over for Shirley to donate her eyes to Flossie.

“No!” Flossie went to the examination room and said to Owen, “I know Shirley. She’s rich, and won’t give up her eyes to me for no reason. I’m afraid Halston will force her, and things will turn ugly. I think I’d better not do the test.” “Don’t overthink this. Although Ms. White’s eyes resemble yours, it’s just a possibility they’re not a match. We’ll see after you have the test,” Owen explained, then instructed his assistant to help Flossie lie on the surgery table to have the test.

Meanwhile, Shirley was in another room. She hadn’t met Flossie at all. Owen’s assistant had taken her blood and did a risk test on her inner organs to see if she was qualified to donate her eyes.

“May I know…” After the assistant had taken Shirley’s blood, Shirley whispered, “Can I see Ms.

Ellsworth?” “She’s feeling unwell, and it’s inconvenient for her to meet you,” Owen’s assistant replied honestly.

“I’m just going to see her, I’m not going to talk to her.” Shirley pretended to be pitiful. “I’m going to lose my eyes if they’re a match. I think I have the right to see who I donate my eyes to, don’t I?” “Umm…”

Owen’s assistant looked conflicted. Owen had said it was best if Flossie and Shirley didn’t meet.

Besides, Flossie had to have an abortion, so she shouldn’t see anyone.

“What’s there to consider? I’m not a bad person. Plus, I’m just going to see her, I’m not going to do anything to her.” Shirley became impatient and urged, “Bring me there. Didn’t I consent to the test?

Can’t you do that then?” “No, it’s inconvenient for her to see you now. You’d better wait outside.

Maybe she’ll have the time to see you after her surgery is over.” The assistant fiddled with her fingers and compromised.

“When the surgery is over?” Shirley’s eyes brightened as she quickly got to her feet. She curiously asked the assistant, “Isn’t she going to have a test? Why is she going to have surgery? Could it be that she has another health issue besides her blindness?” “Ms. White, stop asking me questions. I’m just an assistant to the doctor. I don’t know anything. The test is over, so I’ll go now.” The assistant realized she had slipped up, and quickly packed up the things and left the examination room.

As she stood in the room, Shirley found the whole situation quite weird. Hence, she started sneakily looking for the surgery room where Flossie was. Ellsworth Manor was spacious, but the examination room wasn’t far from the surgery room, both of which were from the library. It was merely two to three rooms away. Shirley studied each room, and at last, she found a room with a closed door at the end of the corridor. Women who looked like nurses entered and exited the room from time to time.

“It must be here!” Shirley tiptoed to that room and leaned her ear against the door. She tried her best to listen for any sounds in the room, but the sound insulation in that room was relatively good. Hence, she heard nothing except footsteps from behind her.

“Why are you sneaking around?” Leia sounded cold and displeased.

“Ah!” Feeling guilty, Shirley averted her gaze, too timid to meet Leia’s gaze.” I passed by and got curious, so I looked around.” “Hmph! Did you pass by this place?” Leia crossed her arms and scoffed,”

You really are the best actress. Didn’t you see the no entry sign here? Even Halston can’t come here while Dr. Wagner is giving Flossie an inspection. What are you up to?” “What sign? I walked fast and didn’t see it.” Shirly stubbornly made an excuse even though the sign was clearly marked and placed in the corridor. There was even a red tape around the area, and Owen had stated that he wanted no disruptions from anyone while he was working. When Shirley went looking for the surgery room, she did see the sign, but it had just made her even more curious. She felt that Flossie must be hiding something from everyone, and if she found out what it was, she might get on Xavier and Halston’s good side. Xavier might even care about her more. However, Leia had found her first.

“You didn’t see such a large sign? Looks like there’s no point in you keeping your eyes then,” Leia said spitefully. She might have lost Xavier to Shirley, but her pride and dignity made her unable to be nice to
