“Silly, that day will never come. You’ll be the one getting sick of me.” Halston kissed Flossie lovingly. His wife might never realize how attractive she was and how many people were coveting her, so he had to be alert all the time.

After a while of kissing, Flossie said rather bashfully, “Umm… There’s something I want to tell you.”

“What is it? Why are you being so mysterious about it?” Halston was curious because both Flossie and Leia had been acting strangely.

“Open the drawer-there’s something in it. I’m sure you’ll know when you see it.” Flossie kept her head ducked, as shy as a schoolgirl. It was not the first time she had gotten pregnant, but she was more nervous and excited than before. Flossie felt that the both of them would look forward to this child’s arrival.

“I’m looking forward to it!” Halston could not suppress his eagerness as he pulled open the drawer. When he saw the test strip and two lines on it, he became nervous. “Dear, umm… is it positive?”

“What?”

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner? How are you feeling now? Do you have any symptoms? Do you want to go to the hospital?” Halston was nervous and felt sorry for Flossie. It must have been hard for Flossie to be this sick and have to wait until he got home.

Flossie’s shyness faded instantly, and she was dumbstruck and furious. “Look at it carefully! What kind of test do you think that is? Oh, you’re driving me mad!” Sulking, she turned around and shut her eyes tightly. There was no hope for romance with this insensible man! She might as well go to sleep.

“You’re not ill?” Halston studied the test strip carefully, and found that it was labeled as a pregnancy test. His eyes widened in realization, and he dropped the test strip in excitement. “Dear, are you… pregnant?”

“Yes, I’m pregnant, not ill.” Flossie sighed and nodded helplessly.

“Am I… going to be a father?” The news filled him with joy and anticipation. Flossie frowned and asked, “Aren’t you already a father?”

“I am, but it’s different this time.” Halston stared at Flossie’s belly in wonder.

“Why is it different?” Flossie turned around and asked him sullenly, “Do you not want this child?”

“No, of course not!” Halston immediately covered Flossie’s lips. “Shush… Don’t say such things. If our baby hears that, he or she may hate me, and that would be unfair for me.”

“What? The baby is just a small cell that can’t even be seen at this point, of course it can’t hear us.” Amused, Flossie moved his hand away, feeling relieved at his joy. Of course she had been worried – she was blind, and Halston was busy gaining a firm foothold in Guajardo

Enterprise. Besides, they had Adie and Abby. Even if Margaret, Leia, and the others were around, it would still be quite exhausting. If they had another child now, their life would be more chaotic.

“I’m serious, darling. I can get rid of it if you think it’s not the right time for us to have another child.” Leaning into Halston’s arms, Flossie said sadly, “We can have another child in the future; I don’t want to see our lives get too chaotic, and I don’t want to see you stressed.” It was already tough taking care of a blind person, and if that person was pregnant, it would be even more troublesome.

“Why do you think this child will make our lives busy?” Hugging Flossie, Halston sounded gentle and patient as he said, “Don’t you think this child’s arrival will give us the hope to move forward? I wanted to give up on my responsibilities before this, but I feel more motivated now. I found my reason to fight!”

“What? It’s just stress…” A long sigh escaped Flossie, and she murmured sympathetically, “Well, you like to shoulder everything on your own even though you can’t.”

“Silly, your husband can do that. Don’t worry, I can handle any amount of stress. At most, we’ll just have to hire a few more servants. I’m rich, so it doesn’t matter anyway.” Halston tried to console Flossie. He felt that most problems could be solved with money. With another child in the picture, they might just have a few more tasks to do, and that could be settled if he hired more helpers.

“It’s not that easy to hire servants sometimes,” Flossie muttered. Tess’ incident warned her that outsiders were unreliable regardless of their morals and principles. If she wanted to give birth to the child, she and Halston had to do a lot of things on their own… She felt a little worried when she recalled the challenging task of raising Adie and Abby in the past, but she would conquer all difficulties to give birth to that child since Halston wanted to have it.

“But…” Anxiety overwhelmed Halston when he recalled his conversation with Jovan that night, and he tightened his grip around Flossie’s hand. “I hope that you’ll always take my side no matter what happens. I hope that I’ll always be your first choice.”

His words made Flossie frown, and as an observant and sensitive person, she quickly noted the exhaustion and heaviness in his tone. She figured he must have encountered some trouble. “Is there something troubling you? Do you want to talk about it?” Flossie asked directly. After going through so many things together, she had realized how important communication was for the both of them.

It was better to communicate instead of making assumptions if there was an issue.

“Nothing. It’s getting late. You should sleep early.” Halston didn’t want to tell her because he didn’t want her to worry.

“No, there has to be something going on. Tell me!” Flossie said urgently. “I said that there can’t be secrets between us. I don’t want you to go to bed worrying about whatever that is.”

Halston sighed deeply, knowing Flossie wouldn’t let it go until he told her.

“Hurry up. We can sleep after you tell me!” Flossie complained.

“Okay, I’ll tell you.” After some hesitation, Halston explained,’ Grandpa talked to Jovan alone again tonight, and I talked to him too. Can you guess… what we talked about?”

“Control over Guajardo Enterprise?” Flossie asked instantly. “Isn’t that why he constantly fights with you? Doesn’t he find it tiring?” Although she had been staying at home recently, she did listen to financial news. She was aware of Jovan making vast changes to Guajardo

Enterprise that had been pretty effective… and that had also affected Halston’s position there. After Jovan had regained his eyesight, he had come back stronger. It was obvious that he had been planning while he was blind, and he was trying his best to defeat

Halston. At the thought of it, Flossie felt that she had wronged Halston since she had given her eyes to Jovan, which had given him the power to fight Halston. It seemed that both

Halston and the Guajardo family would suffer a huge blow thanks to Jovan’s comeback.

“No.” Halston shook his head and said coldly, “It seems he’s been coveting something else instead.”

“If he doesn’t want Guajardo Enterprise, then…”

“He wants you,” Halston looked at Flossie and said quietly.

“Me…” Flossie’s heart skipped a beat. She was aware of Jovan’s feelings for her, but she always felt that it was because of his desire to defeat Halston. Logically, the fastest and most effective way to defeat Halston was to get Guajardo Enterprise, so Flossie wondered why he involved her instead. Flossie thought about it for a while, then said, “Is there some misunderstanding or is this a tactic to throw you off? His target has always been Guajardo Enterprise.”

“I thought so too. But do you know what Grandpa offered him?” Halston clenched his fists and growled, “Grandpa already promised to give up Guajardo Enterprise to him on the condition that he doesn’t pursue you. Guajardo Enterprise and his victory over me was practically in his hands, but he turned Grandpa down… He rejected Grandpa’s offer because of you!”

Flossie swallowed, her face pale. After a long silence, she whispered, “Then… he must be out of his mind.” For some reason, she felt guilty. It wasn’t that she had feelings for Jovan, but she now realized that Jovan’s feelings for her were deeper than she thought. It made sense though-he would not have risked his future and given up his blood and eyes to Halston for her otherwise. When she heard that he was willing to give up Guajardo Enterprise which he had coveted for a long time just so he could pursue her… she felt very uneasy.

“Tell me the truth. I know you both left Beach City and went abroad for half a year. You guys spent days and nights in each other’s company. Did you-“

“No!” Knowing what Halston wanted to ask about, Flossie firmly responded. She hugged him from behind and leaned her head on his large back. “Promise me you won’t ever doubt my love for you. I’ve never loved anyone else. If I did, I wouldn’t have started over with you.”

“I know.” Halston’s voice was hoarse as tears rolled down his cheeks. “I know that your love for me is unwavering, but it’s the first time I learned that Jovan’s love for you… isn’t less than mine. I panicked, and I was scared.” If Jovan simply wanted to defeat Halston, Halston would not be so flustered because he could let Jovan win for Flossie’s sake. However, Jovan was now in the same mindset as Halston. He was willing to give up Guajardo Enterprise and the prospect of defeating Halston because of Flossie, which meant that his love for Flossie was no less than Halston’s. Just thinking of it filled Halston with deep fear. If Flossie realized another man’s love for her was as fervent as Halston’s, she might make another choice.

“Silly, why are you panicking? What are you afraid of?” Flossie smiled because it was the first time she had heard him so panicked and scared.

“I’m afraid he’ll win you over…” Halston said anxiously, “Jovan is good at pursuing women. I wouldn’t be worried if he’s just fooling around or doing it for the sake of defeating me, but he’s serious now. He’ll do everything he can to get you.”

“What nonsense are you talking about? Do you have no confidence in yourself or me?” Flossie never expected Halston to be so insecure in his love affairs. Rubbing his head, she said reassuringly, “When you put it that way, I’m afraid Miss Seraphina will snatch you away too. In comparison with Seraphina’s love for you, my love is so much worse. I’m pretty pretentious, and I always get mad at you, but she can fight her family just to be with you. If it were me, I couldn’t do that. If we fight one day or if there is any irresolvable dispute, she might be able to snatch you away.”

“That will never happen.”

Hurriedly, Halston promised Flossie, “I hold no affection for Seraphina. She’s just my childhood friend. Plus, I know what she’s done to you and me, so I’ll never be friends with her again.”

“Hmm? Why do you sound regretful?” Flossie asked coldly,” Be frank with me. You lived under the same roof as

Seraphina when I was away from Beach City. How far did you both go? Did you ever sleep with her? Do you still miss her? Is that why you sound regretful?”

“No, I swear! There’s nothing between us!” Halston protested desperately. Immediately, he raised two fingers and said loyally, “The most intimate action between us was kissing. I never slept with her.”

“Not even once?” Flossie frowned suspiciously. “You guys were pretty lovey-dovey back then, and you both had even planned out your marriage. Wasn’t it natural to have slept with each other?” She patted his shoulders reassuringly, acting like she was cool with it as she smiled. “Calm down. You lost your memory, didn’t you? Even if you had slept with her, I wouldn’t be mad. I’m just curious if you slept with her or not. What difference does it make if you slept with her or me?”

“No! Oh gosh, I’ve never slept with her!” Halston was so nervous that he was almost stammering. Desperate to prove his innocence, he said miserably, “Dear, I’m telling the truth. I have no interest in her. Think about it—which man would be interested in their friends? Even if I had slept with her, I wouldn’t hide it from you. But I’m telling you I never slept with her. You can’t ask me to admit to something I didn’t do, right?”

“Liar. No man can see a curvy and charming woman as his friend… Miss Seraphina is a delicate and rich young lady full of feminine charms. If I were you, I would have slept with her ages ago.” When she recalled how lovey-dovey they had been, jealousy overwhelmed her. “I mean, you guys were childhood friends and a good match. Plus, weren’t you always close to her? Isn’t it normal for you guys to be a couple? I personally think you both are a perfect match…”

“Dear, you’d better kill me and dig out my heart to see the truth than torture me like this,” Halstong groaned, giving up on explaining. He knew that she was jealous when she claimed that he and Seraphina were a perfect match, and she’d only get more jealous the more he tried to defend himself. Hence, he decided it was easier to keep quiet.

“I don’t dare kill you, Miss Seraphina might kill me then!” Flossie scoffed sarcastically, her jealousy obvious.

“Okay, I was wrong.” Halston said helplessly, “You spent a long time with Jovan too, so we’re even. Let’s just forget about it and not bring it up anymore, okay?” He knew he couldn’t win against her, and since both of them had done the same thing, it was better to stop keeping score.

Flossie finally relented. “Okay, since you said so, we’ll forget about it. We can never be mad at each other for that or doubt each other’s love.”

Halston’s eyes lit up and he said eagerly, “Yes, I agree!”
