I might as well breach the contract than be apart from you for a month!” Flossie smirked at her dramatic friend.
“Do it then.
Stay with me every day and don’t spend time with your idol.” “Heh…
I was just joking, Flossie! I’ve been waiting for this chance for such a long time, and I’m finally going to date Mr. Dalton! He’s been my idol for such a long time, and now…” Leia said dreamily.
“Okay, that’s enough.
Hurry up and get going, and stop acting like a lovestruck fool.” “what? No, I’m not!” “Yes, you are.
You’re a fool in love.” “Flossie, stop teasing me!” The two friends started bickering with each other.
After Quinton had finished his work, he went to the ward to see Flossie right away.
He entered the ward and frowned at the two women as he approached them.
“Stop messing around, you childish girls.
Why are you both acting like kids when you’re almost in your thirties?” Quinton said helplessly as he stood between them.
Instantly, Flossie and Leia both scowled at him.
“How can you say that, Quinton? Don’t you know that age is a very sensitive issue to women?” Flossie huffed as she put her hands on her waist.
“Yeah, what do you mean ‘almost in our thirties’? Flossie and I are forever eighteen, okay?” Leia declared, ready to start a fight with Quinton.
Seeing the two girls gang up on him, Quinton immediately gave in and put his hands up in surrender. “Okay, I was wrong. Both of you will always be eighteen, at least to me… No, it’s too much. At most, one of you is three and the other is five.”
Blinking, Leia asked, “Who is three and who is five?”
Both Flossie and Quinton smiled at each other, and Quinton chuckled. “Isn’t it obvious?”
Flossie groaned, “Ah, now that I think about it… What if someone bullies you during filming?”
“Bullies me?” Clenching her fists, Leia said confidently “Hah! They’ll be lucky if I don’t bully them!”
“Good. Don’t forget to practice the self-defense skills I taught you.” Flossie felt like a mother sending her sheltered daughter off to college.
“Don’t worry, bestie. I’m just going to shoot a show, I’m not going to war. I’ll be fine.’ After chatting with Flossie a while longer, Leia eventually left to pack her luggage.
Quinton was left alone with Flossie in the ward, and he sighed. Finally, he said solemnly, “I’ll be frank with you,
Flossie. I’m here to say goodbye too.”
Flossie looked at him with an anxious frown. “Where are you going, Quinton?”
“I told you that Chase has gone missing, and I just can’t let it go. I’ve got to do something about it.” Quinton had been thinking about Chase. There was a high possibility that he had drowned at sea, but even if that was the case, Quinton at least wanted to find his body. He had to know for sure.
“Yeah, you’re right. Chase was always loyal to you, and it’s normal to be worried but… you’ve just recovered.” Flossie looked at her brother in concern.
“There’s nothing to worry about-l know what I’m doing. He might have encountered some pirates, and they’d probably let him go if I offered them money. It’s no big deal,” Quinton said confidently.
“I know you’ve made up your mind, but please be careful and contact me if anything happens. I might not be a big shot, but I’ve got some connections and means too. I can help you.”
“Okay.” Touching Flossie’s head, Quinton smiled and said, “I’ll rely on my sister then.”
As the days passed, both Quinton and Leia left, making Flossie’s ward feel quite empty. It made Flossie feel miserable. Luckily, Margaret would bring Adie and Abby there to spend time with Flossie after the children got back from school. Occasionally, Justin would also drop by to see
Flossie after work. When people visited, Flossie didn’t feel so lonely, but today… she felt like something was off, as if someone was secretly watching her. She didn’t know if it was true or if she was just being paranoid.
“Miss, did anyone… come to see me today?” Flossie hesitantly asked the nurse who came to change her IV drip.
The nurse looked at Flossie and smiled. “No. Are you feeling a bit anxious,
Miss Ellsworth?”
Heaving a long sigh, Flossie said glumly, “Maybe.”
Margaret came to the hospital with Adie and Abby in the evening. Adie held Flossie’s hand warmly and stroked her hair the moment he entered the ward. “Mommy, we’re done with school for the day. Are you feeling better?” He asked gently.
“Yes, I’m much better. I’ll be leaving the hospital in no time.” Flossie touched Adie’s cheek. The sight of her children eased her pain much better than any medicine.
Looking cute in pigtail braids and a pink denim jumper, Abby carefully handed a cherry tomato to Flossie. “I grew a cherry tomato plant at the kindergarten, Mommy, and this is the only tomato that grew. I want you to have it; you’ll get better after you eat it.’
“Don’t you want to eat it since there’s only one, Abby?” Flossie stared at the cherry tomato in Abby’s hand as if it was a treasure.
“No, Mommy, I want you to eat the best food there is. I watered this plant and watched it grow every day. It’s a magical cherry tomato, and I’m sure it’ll protect you,” Abby said seriously.
Flossie could tell that Abby spent a lot of effort to grow that cherry tomato plant, which was probably why the little girl genuinely thought that the cherry tomato was some kind of magical pill that could cure all illnesses. Naturally, Flossie didn’t want to rain on Abby’s parade, so she took the cherry tomato and stuffed it into her mouth. “Wow, it’s so sweet! It’s the sweetest cherry tomato I’ve ever had, and I feel so much better after eating it. I don’t feel any pain at all… Abby, are you a magician? You planted a magical cherry tomato!” Flossie said enthusiastically.
“Ah, wonderful! Mommy will recover now, I’m so happy!” Abby danced around the ward excitedly. She had been holding the cherry tomato in her hand since she left the kindergarten, taking great care not to crush it, and she now felt that her efforts had not been in vain. She had gotten what she had wished for.
Seeing that, Adie frowned thoughtfully, then said to Flossie, ‘I’ve got another way to speed up your recovery, Mommy. Wait for me!”
“What do you mean?” Flossie glanced at Adie curiously. Frankly, she was worried about Adie’s sudden idea because he was too smart and his plans were always complex. She couldn’t afford any trouble right now.
“Don’t worry about it. Just wait for me, I’ll be right back.” After that, Adie ran out of the ward.
“Hey, Adie… Adie!” Flossie called after Adie worriedly.
However, Margaret waved her hand dismissively. ‘Don’t worry, Miss Flossie, he’ll be fine. He knows you like flowers, and when we passed by the garden downstairs, he said he wanted to pick some for you. I think that’s what he’s going to do now.”
Margaret was right-after Adie ran out of the ward, he went straight to the garden downstairs. Since the hospital was a high-end private hospital, it was equipped with a beautiful garden. There were only a few patients in the spacious garden, and it was not crowded at all.
Adie would pass by this large garden every time he came to visit Flossie, and he had always wanted to pick some of the colorful flowers in it for Flossie. His mother loved beautiful things, and flowers were one of the most beautiful things in the world, so Adie felt that Flossie would definitely be happy when she saw them.
There were many types of flowers blooming brightly in the garden, including large roses, lush rhododendrons, and bright peonies. It was a beautiful and calming sight, and Adie decided to pick one of each to put into a bouquet for his mother. He walked into the flower shrubs, and the image of him surrounded by fresh flowers looked like a scene from a movie.
As he plucked some flowers, he heard a woman’s angry voice as she spoke on the phone. “I don’t care, we have to put an end to this surgery and stop Owen from coming to the hospital! Is it that hard to make a person disappear?
People die in plane crashes and car accidents all the time! Doesn’t he like fishing? He can drown at sea then! Just stop calling me and asking questions, all I want to hear is that you’ve got the job done.”
When he heard that, Adie stopped plucking flowers and focused on the woman. He instinctively felt that there was something wrong with this bad-tempered woman.
It was none other than Seraphina, and she didn’t notice Adie as she argued with the person on the phone. “Halston can’t know about this because he’s still in the hospital… All you have to know is that he wants to have the surgery. As long as you get rid of Owen, I can find him another neurosurgeon. Listen—we’ll be the ones who suffer if he gets back his memories, okay? Right, I’ll leave it to you then.” After that, Seraphina impatiently ended the call and left the garden.
Halston? Adie tried to digest what he had just heard in the garden, and wondered if that lady had been talking about his scumbag daddy. If she was, it meant that his scumbag daddy had lost his memories… which was why he didn’t remember Adie.
Adie realized now that there might have been an accident, and Halston might not be a scumbag at all. It was a lot to think about.
Suddenly, a cold voice interrupted his thoughts. “Hey, what are you doing here alone? Where are your parents?”
Adie stood up and looked around. When he saw who had spoken, his eyes grew wide and the flowers fell from his hands.
