“Me!” Both Halston and Flossie raised their hands.
“Step back. A cruel man like you wouldn’t donate blood for someone else. Let me do it-l have a lot of blood.” Flossie scoffed, but she was secretly worried that donating blood might affect his health. After all, his body had just recovered. If he wanted to donate blood to another person now, it would be very risky.
Halston ignored Flossie and looked at the doctor as he rolled up his sleeves.” Let’s not waste time. Take my blood.”
“You can’t!” Flossie stood before Halston and said to the doctor, “He looks tall and strong, but he’s actually a weak man. He’s suffering from hemophobia too. What if he faints when he’s donating blood? It’ll only cause you trouble. Take my blood… I’m strong.”
‘Tm suffering from hemophobia, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t have enough blood. I’m a man, and she’s a woman. Her hematopoietic function isn’t as strong as mine. Use my blood.” “Your hematopoietic function isn’t strong at all! We exchanged your blood for you, so stop trying to act brave!” Flossie blurted out
Halston frowned. “What do you mean?” “Never mind, it’s nothing.” Flossie mumbled and then turned to the doctor.” Take my blood. Now!”
After that, she rushed into the surgery room.
“Take mine too.” Halston followed her quickly. He felt that a man should bear this kind of burden.
“You both…” This was the first time the doctor had faced such a situation, but he didn’t want to waste any time. “Alright. Both of you can donate blood in case we need a lot of it.”
Finally, Joanne was saved due to Flossie and Halston’s joint efforts. When her condition was stable, she was transferred into an ordinary ward.
“Are you alright?” Flossie and Halston asked each other at the same time as they exited the surgery room.
“I’m fine. I told you that my hematopoietic function is very strong.” Halston put his hands in his pockets and raised his brows slightly.
“Yeah, you’re very strong. But you fainted earlier, didn’t you?” Flossie asked, raising an eyebrow.
“No, I didn’t. I just dozed off.”
“If you say so. You should get a doctor to cure your hemophobia, by the way. It shouldn’t go on like this.” Flossie was sincerely worried about him—it was a natural instinct.
“You care so much about me… I think you’ve forgotten that we’re enemies.” Halston was secretly happy that Flossie was worried about him, but he pretended to be indifferent.
“We can stop the war temporarily. Now that we’ve lost blood, we should support each other.
We can fight after we get better.” Flossie raised her head and looked at the clock on the wall, saying, “Why don’t we eat something nice to replenish our blood?”
“Great idea.” Halston gladly agreed to it. H Group had cooperated with Benjamin before, so he had been to Goldshire a few times. He was quite familiar with the place, and he knew where all the local delicacies were.
They went to the largest food hall nearby, which was full of food stalls and high-end restaurants.
“What do you like to eat?” Halston asked Flossie in a rather gentlemanly manner.
“I’m not a picky eater.”
“Okay, let’s go and get some local delicacies.” It was rare to see him so enthusiastic.
Pursing his lips, he behaved like a tour guide as he walked through the lively food hall with
Flossie.
At last, they took a few turns before they came to a very narrow and desolate alley.
When Flossie saw the colourful LED sign, the decaying wall, and the locals’ gazes, she subconsciously swallowed. “Hey, are you trying to sell me to someone?’
“What? You think I want to sell you?” Halston sized her up and scoffed,” Look at you. Which part of your body could I even sell?”
“What do you think? My kidneys are very valuable. Also, I heard that people who come here can only leave after they give up their kidneys. Who knows if you’ve conspired with the gangs here?” Flossie teased him, but she was actually quite frightened. She walked beside him the whole time, not daring to stray too far.
“You’re right, this place is pretty chaotic. You’d better stick close to me if you don’t want to lose your kidneys. Hold my hand tight.” After that, he reached out and held her hand.
Instantly, he was struck by an odd sensation. It was the first time he held her hand, but he found her small hand very familiar… It was as if he had held her hand countless times before.
Halston always longed to hold onto this feeling, so he always tried to approach Flossie.
“You scheming man. You must have done this on purpose!” Flossie complained but still subconsciously leaned closer to him. She didn’t dare to let go of his hand at all.
When they reached the end of the corridor, they saw a restaurant with the Cyndiago language on its sign. That restaurant was not large, and it didn’t look that fancy either.
However, it was clear that the place was out of the ordinary since the pictures on the sign showed that the restaurant served many different types of food.
It almost looked like a zoo.
“Welcome, old friend.” The shop owner enthusiastically waved and greeted Halston and
Flossie.
Halston was eager to walk into the restaurant but Flossie stopped him firmly. “Are you sure you want to eat here? This sign is making me lose my appetite…”
“No appetite? But the food here is really nutritious, and it’s perfect for us since we’ve just donated blood. You should try their specialty.”
“What’s their specialty?”
“Fried poisonous spider.”
“And that’s my cue to leave. Thank you.” Flossie wanted to turn and run away, but Halston held her and pulled her into the restaurant.
He then said loudly, “Boss, give us a large plate of fried poisonous spiders, salad with pork liver, deer blood, and bear gall-”
“Stop it, Halston! It’s going to taste weird.”
“It won’t be effective if it doesn’t. Don’t worry, we won’t die from eating these.” Halston was rather amiable and down-to-earth now, and he was eager for Flossie to try these delicacies.
Left without a choice, Flossie braced herself and took a seat.
Before long, the waiter served them the dishes Halston had ordered. All of the dishes had a strong taste that could help replenish their blood.
“Ugh, er… are these dishes edible?” Flossie had no appetite when she saw the red and black dishes on the table.
“Why not? These are their specialties. This type of spider is very nutritious, you know. After you eat this, you’ll regain the blood you donated today,” Halston explained seriously. He then picked the largest and crispiest black spider and handed it to her. “Give it a try. You’ll fall in love with the taste.”
He put it in front of her mouth, so she closed her eyes and bit it. After that, she felt like she had seen a whole new world. Her eyes lit up.
“Is this… really a spider?” She eagerly chewed it before taking another bite. After that, she could no longer control herself-she could not stop eating it.
“It’s not just the spider. The seasoning used by this restaurant is very exquisite. Their dishes are delicious not because of the ingredients but the seasoning. Everyone loves their food,”
Halston said eagerly before he started eating a spider.
The two of them started to eat freely. They soon finished eating the deer blood, bear gall, and pork liver on the table.
It was soon sunset outside the restaurant, and the sky gradually darkened…
After Halston paid the bill, he walked out of the restaurant and saw how dark it had gotten. Frowning, he turned and looked at Flossie. “It’s getting dark. Let’s find a place to rest for the night.”
Flossie had a bit of wine, so her cheeks were slightly flushed and she was feeling a little dizzy too. She stepped forward and lifted his chin, narrowing her eyes at him. “Looks like you want to take advantage of me after buying me dinner. Don’t think I don’t know what’s on your mind.”
