Filed to story: A Second Chance with My Billionaire Love
“Joanne just did what she felt was right. I don’t think it was a betrayal.” Halston looked up and met Flossie’s gaze intently. They were so close that they could feel each other’s breath on their skin, and suddenly, the air became thick with tension.
Flossie swallowed briefly and put some distance between them. She gritted her teeth and said, “As a man, you should at least have the integrity to admit to what you did. You tricked
Joanna and ruined my brother… Don’t you feel even the least bit guilty?”
“As opponents in a battle, it’s only natural that there’s a winner and a loser. If I didn’t do what I did, it might have been my face ruined or my corpse in the sea.”
“You…” Flossie couldn’t argue.
“Do you believe that Night Demon would have been as generous if he had the chance?”
Halston demanded as he stood up and approached Flossie. “I remember vividly how torturous it was in the water dungeon, and how helpless it felt to be blind. Don’t you think he’s cruel too?”
“That… was an accident…” Flossie mumbled, reluctant to admit that Halston had a point.
Quinton’s actions had been more ruthless than Halston’s, so Halston wasn’t wrong.
“Accident?” A mocking smile crept up on Halston’s face. “Well, can I say that it was an accident that I ruined his face back then? If Joanna didn’t stab him and drive him mad to the point that he started attacking everyone, I wouldn’t have had to use such a method to calm him down.”
Halston frowned slightly, not wanting to recall those unpleasant memories.” After that, he grabbed Joanne and jumped into the sea, and after that, both of them went missing. I helped him manage Carmine Pawnshop for free for so many years to keep it from going out of business. It had been nearing ruin, but I made it successful again. Haven’t I done enough? In fact, I think I deserve a reward.”
Flossie’s jaw dropped, and she gaped at Halston like a goldfish.
“Unfortunately, that person is still as bullheaded as before. If he insists on provoking me, then don’t blame me if I fight back.” Halston’s gaze slowly turned fierce.
It seemed like he wanted to make a counterattack because of the news, and that was exactly what Flossie did not want.
“Both of you are blinded by your hatred, and it gets worse every time the both of you fight.
In the end, both of you might get seriously hurt…” Flossie tried to explain, but Halston just shook his head.
“There’s no point in you telling me this, you’d have better luck trying to persuade your stubborn brother. I’m just a businessman, and I don’t hold grudges. The only thing I want is profit.”
“Yes, I came to meet you today because I know that. I hope you can give me a bit of time to help you and Quinton resolve this,’ Flossie said earnestly.
“You?” Halston scoffed, raising a brow doubtfully.
“Of course, I cant do that. But Joanne can.” Flossie’s gaze was determined as she spoke.
Halston went silent, his gaze turning icy. Although he was always aloof and distant, he did feel sorry for Joanne.
“Promise me not to take revenge on my brother during this period, and I guarantee that you both will cooperate well after this issue is resolved.” Flossie was afraid that they might fight while she was gone, so she could only ask Halston to stop for the time being.
However, she didn’t know if he would agree or not.
After all, he had forgotten about her, which just made her his opponent’s younger sister. He felt nothing for her.
“Can… Can you do that?” Flossie asked softly, hoping he would accept the olive branch.
He stared at her coldly for a long time before he said, “Ten days. That’s all I can promise.”
Flossie felt relieved after getting Halston’s answer. Some part of her knew that the man wasn’t as aloof and cruel as he made himself out to be.
Although she did not have much time to carry out that difficult mission, at least Halston would not do anything to Quinton during that period. She could leave Beach City with peace of mind.
After she walked out of the president’s office, she saw a lot of employees in the corridor.
She only knew some of them, but all of them looked at her with sparkling eyes.
“Hi, Mrs. Guajardo!”
When some of the senior employees saw her, they waved at her frantically as if they were fans who were meeting their idol.
“Umm… hi.” Flossie nodded politely before she corrected them, “Please don’t address me as
Mrs. Guajardo anymore. I’ve divorced your president.”
She felt annoyed everytime she thought about it. She had divorced the same man twice, and the second time had been thanks to Quinton. It was just like when Halston pretended to be Mr. Q and married her. She was dumbfounded throughout the process even though she was the one marrying him.
At that time, Quinton had made Halston sign a document since the latter was blind and held hostage in Carmine Pawnshop-that document had been a divorce agreement.
After that, she divorced Halston for the second time. It was quite a bit of a hassle.
“It doesn’t matter, you’ll always be Mrs. Guajardo to us. Please come and see us more often, think of us as family.” The senior employees’ eyes turned watery as they said to Flossie.
Back then, they had witnessed Mr. and Mrs. Guajardo’s love story when they were in a love-hate relationship. It had been so tumultuous that the senior employees felt like they were watching a drama.
“Yes, we’re your family. Please come and see us more often…” The other senior employees echoed enthusiastically.
The sound of heels clacking on the ground filled the air, and instantly, the employees fell silent. They lowered their heads quickly, full of trepidation.
“Well, with all this fuss happening, I thought a VIP was visiting H Group. I didn’t expect that it was you… Miss Ellsworth,’ Seraphina sneered as she came over, swinging an exclusive branded bag. The look she gave Flossie was full of envy and hatred.
“Hi, Miss Murphy.” The employees greeted Seraphina softly.
Seraphina smiled gracefully and waved at them. “I bought coffee and snacks for all of you.
Thank you for your hard work.”
“Thank you, Miss Murphy.”
“You don’t have to thank me, it’s what I should do. And you don’t have to call me Miss
Murphy either, it’s too formal. Just call me Mrs. Guajardos…” Seraphina said with a triumphant smirk.
The employees either rolled their eyes or twitched their lips before they returned to their working spaces. “Okay, Miss Murphy. We’ll get back to work.”
To them, Flossie was the only one who deserved the title of Mrs. Guajardos—the others were just wannabes.
Seraphina clenched her fists furiously, but could not do anything to them because she had to maintain her image as an honourable young lady.
“Miss Ellsworth, didn’t we have a deal? You disappear from Halston’s world, and I’ll be responsible for him for the rest of his life… But here you are, coming all the way to his company to meet him. You’ve lost your integrity.” Seraphina said with a sickly sweet smile.
“I’m sorry.” Flossie shrugged, feeling helpless. “Azure Group’s business overlaps with H
Group’s, so it’s inevitable that I’ll bump into him. Don’t worry though, I’m just a stranger to him. I won’t affect your love affair.” “Hmph! You won’t affect my love affair?”
Seraphina gritted her teeth and said, “Didn’t you hear what the employees call you? If this goes on, Halston will remember everything sooner or later, and it’ll be bad for his brain if that happens. We both know what he experienced a year ago and how painful it was for him.
He’s better now, but seeing you will probably affect him. Don’t you feel bad harming him again and again like this?”
“I… I didn’t think of that.” Flossie lowered her head in shame after hearing that. Halston nearly died by her hand a year ago, so she swore to God that she would never get back with him in exchange for his safety and happiness.
However, even if she didn’t do anything, sometimes things developed beyond her expectations. The grudge between Quinton and Halston was the perfect example-she was caught in the middle of it, so she couldn’t just stand aside and do nothing about it…
