Conall crossed his arms. Then we should hunt him immediately.”
Damon shook his head. “No.”
Conall’s brow furrowed. “My King?”
Damon’s smile widened slightly. “Let him run.”
Conall stared at him.
Damon’s voice dropped to a quiet whisper. “Because now…” His eyes gleamed with dangerous anticipation. “…we will see exactly how far a broken wolf will go to reach a Queen.”
“We will go to the Royal Pack, and we will meet our Queen.” Damon finally said.
Cerberus rumbled approvingly.
And somewhere deep in the forest, a hunted wolf was already running, straight toward the war he couldnever win.
The next morning at the Black Howler pack house, breakfast was already underway when Talon and Diana entered the large dining hall. The scent of fresh bread, roasted meat, and brewed coffee filled the air, while wolves spoke in low conversations across the long tables.
Diana had begun to grow familiar with the rhythm of the pack. Warriors on early patrol sat near the entrance, eating quickly before returning to their posts. Families gathered closer to the center tables. Members of the Alpha family sat near the head of the hall.
But this morning, Diana’s attention was drawn to something else.
To someone.
Willow.
Willow stood beside her as they waited for the others to arrive, but Diana noticed the way her eyes kept drifting toward the entrance of the dining hall.
Then the doors opened.
Enzo walked in.
And beside him was Leah.
Behind them were Leah’s parents, Robert and Pei.
The moment Robert and Pei saw Diana, they immediately changed direction and walked straight toward her. Before Diana could even greet them, both of them wrapped her in a tight embrace.
“Diana… we are so sorry,” Robert said, his voice thick with guilt.
Pei nodded quickly beside him. “We should have told you the truth. We should have tried harder.”
“Robert… Pei,” Diana gently pulled back from their hug and held both of their hands. “It wasn’t your fault.”
They both shook their heads, still distressed, but Diana continued. “Hazel used her Luna command on you, she ordered you not to tell anyone about what happened to my parents.” Her voice was calm. “Even if you wanted to tell me… you couldn’t. The Luna command is not something you can easily disobey.”
Robert looked down. “We still feel responsible.”
Diana gave them a reassuring smile. “My parents would not want you carrying that burden.”
Before the conversation could continue further, Leah stepped forward quietly and gently placed a hand on her parents’ shoulders. She said softly. “Mom… Dad… let’s get breakfast.”
She guided them away from Diana and toward the buffet tables where food was laid out.
Enzo followed beside them.
Diana noticed something then.
Willow had not moved, her gaze followed their every movement.
Diana watched carefully.
When Enzo leaned down and kissed Leah lightly on the head before handing her a plate of food. But Willow’s expression flickered.
Pain.
Envy.
Something else too.
Diana leaned slightly closer to her, and she whispered gently, “Willow, I hope you don’t mind me asking… but was there something between you and Enzo before he met Leah?”
Willow looked at her. For a moment her eyes filled with tears, but she blinked quickly, refusing to let them fall. She said quietly. “I’ll tell you later.”
Diana nodded.
Breakfast continued normally, though Diana noticed Willow spoke very little during the meal.
After breakfast, Talon kissed Diana goodbye and said he had a lot of meetings to attend.
Afterward, Willow resumed her role as Diana’s guide around the territory. They walked through several parts of the pack, greeting wolves and checking on preparations for the upcoming marking ceremony. Eventually, they planned a trip into the nearby town to look for clothes and ceremonial garments Diana would wear during the marking celebration.
The two of them walked along a quiet forest path when Willow finally spoke again. “We didn’t have a relationship.”
Diana looked at her.
“If that’s what you’re asking.”
“But?” Diana prompted gently.
“My brother and Enzo started searching for their mates when they turned eighteen,” Willow explained and sighed. “Like most wolves.”
She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear as they walked. “But after several years… they stopped actively searching.”
Diana frowned slightly. “Why?”
“Pack politics,” Willow said. “I don’t fully understand or know anything about it. Something about alliances and responsibilities, I think.”
She shrugged slightly. “Talon and Enzo have always been close. Best friends since they were young.”
Diana smiled faintly. She had already seen that bond.
“I grew up around both of them,” Willow continued. “Training together. Hunting together. Celebrating together. And somewhere along the way… I fell in love with Enzo.”
Diana said nothing, letting Willow continue.
“I never found my fated mate either,” They walked a few more steps before she added, “So Enzo and I made an agreement.”
Diana glanced at her curiously.
“We said that if he still hadn’t found his mate in a few years… and if I hadn’t found mine… we would choose each other.”
Diana blinked slightly.
“We would ask Talon for approval, and then we would mark each other.” Willow’s voice remained calm, though the sadness beneath it was clear. “If we marked each other, our wolves would bond. Even if we met our fated mates later… our wolves would not recognize them.”
Diana understood.
Chosen mates.
Permanent bonds.
“But he found Leah,” Diana said softly.
“Yeah.” Willow gave a small nod, and she forced a smile. “And I didn’t even know until it was mentioned in the first morning we had breakfast together.”
Diana frowned slightly. “Enzo probably meant to tell you earlier,” she said. “Everything happened so quickly in Crimson Fang.”
“I know.” Willow nodded again, and she looked down briefly. “But it still hurts.”
“I loved him.” Then she corrected herself quietly. “I still love him.”
Diana’s heart ached for her.
“I really believed what we had would be enough,” Willow looked up at the sky through the trees. “Enough to build a lifetime together.”
“But the Moon Goddess has her own plans.” Her smile was sad but accepting. “I don’t like the plan. It hurts. But I respect it.” She paused. “The love I have for him won’t disappear overnight.”
Diana reached out and gently squeezed her hand. “Does Talon know?”
“I’m sure he has an idea.” Willow chuckled softly, and then she shook her head. “Enzo isn’t just his Beta. He’s his best friend. And my brother isn’t stupid.”
Diana smiled slightly. “No… he’s definitely not.”
They walked a few more steps before Diana spoke again. “But like you said, Willow… the Moon Goddess has a plan.”
Willow looked at her.
“Maybe your fated mate is still out there,” Diana continued. “Maybe you’ll meet him soon.” She smiled warmly. “And when you do, the pain you feel right now will eventually become a distant memory.”
Willow tilted her head. “You really think so?”
Diana nodded confidently. “I know so.”
She nudged Willow gently. I’ve only known you a short time, but even I can see you’re kind, loyal, and have a beautiful heart.” Her voice softened. Your mate will be incredibly lucky.”
Willow’s composure finally cracked. She pulled Diana into a tight hug and whispered softly. “Thank you.”
Diana hugged her back warmly.
After a moment, Willow stepped back and wiped her eyes quickly, then she suddenly asked. “Do you think Leah would be okay coming with us next time?”
Diana blinked in surprise. She asked carefully. “You would be okay spending time with her?”
“I’m part of the Alpha family,” Willow nodded, she said matter-of-factly. “Talon’s sister.”
She lifted her chin slightly. “It’s part of my responsibility to help new members acclimate to the pack.”
Diana studied her. “And you’ll really be okay with that?”
“Of course,” Willow replied calmly. “She’s mated to our Beta.”
She shrugged lightly. “And she’s new here.”
“Enzo will show her around when he’s free,” Willow continued. “But he’s also busy running half the pack.”
“Leah and her parents need to meet everyone. Learn how the pack works.” She smiled faintly, her voice became thoughtful. “They won’t truly feel like part of the pack if they stay locked inside the Beta suite all the time.”
Diana nodded slowly.
Willow was hurting, but she was still choosing kindness and choosing duty.
And Diana realized something important.
The Moon Goddess truly did have plans, because someday-
Someone would walk into Willow’s life.
And that wolf would be incredibly lucky.
“Come in,” Talon said calmly when a knock sounded at his office door.
The door opened immediately,
Beta Enzo entered first, stepping aside to allow the guests to follow behind him.
Alpha Charles walked in with stiff authority, his posture rigid and proud. Luna Carla followed beside him, her expression tight with displeasure. Behind them, Vanessa entered last, her chin lifted as if daring anyone in the room to challenge her.
Enzo closed the door behind them and quietly took his place hear the wall, though the faint smirk on his face suggested he already knew this meeting was going to be entertaining.
Talon remained seated behind his desk, his posture relaxed but his presence unmistakably powerful.
“Alpha Charles. Luna Carla. Vanessa,” Talon greeted evenly. He gestured politely toward the chairs in front of his desk. “Welcome to Black Howler. How can I help you?”
Alpha Charles did not sit. Instead, he stepped forward slightly.
“Alpha King,” he began firmly, “we came here to discuss why my daughter was banished from your territory
His eyes darkened. “…and why some random she-wolf threatened her while she was here.”
Talon slowly leaned back in his chair.
“Some random she-wolf?” Talon repeated thoughtfully, his brow lifted slightly. “Are you certain about that?
Behind them, Enzo suddenly choked. He turned away quickly, covering his mouth with his fist as he struggled not to laugh.
Vanessa shot him an annoyed glare.
“Yes,” Alpha Charles continued, ignoring Enzo’s reaction. “Our pack has been a long-time ally of Black Howler. We have been loyal and supportive to the Royal Pack for generations.”
Luna Carla stepped forward beside him. Her voice was sharp and piercing enough that Talon felt a headache forming almost instantly.
“For my daughter to be humiliated like this is deeply concerning,” Luna Carla said. “Not only was she insulted by some unknown she-wolf, but she was also banished from your pack and told never to return”
Her gaze hardened. “Alpha King Talon, how could this happen?”
Talon opened his mouth to respond, but before he could say anything, another knock sounded on the door.
And unlike Enzo earlier, the person on the other side did not wait for permission.
The door opened.
Diana walked in.
The moment she stepped inside, she could already feel the tension filling the room. Her eyes briefly swept across the visitors before she walked directly toward Talon’s desk
Without hesitation, she held out her hand for him.
Talon smiled faintly and took it, but instead of guiding her to the chair beside him. He pulled her directly onto his lap.
Diana blinked in surprise before settling comfortably there.
“What is the meaning of this?” Alpha Charles demanded, stunned.
“Alpha, who is she?” Luna Carla asked sharply at the same time.
