“Why are you upset about the possibility of Araiya having a mate?” Talon lowered her to the ground.
“I’m not. I am just stating what I have been taught.”
“Well to be honest, we don’t have any dragons with Araiya’s element,” Amara started, “but we also have never had a Chosen with her element either. She probably won’t follow the normal traditions of the Chosen.”
“First and foremost, I don’t have to worry about a mate or whatever today. I want to go to sleep. So how about we stop bickering over what may or may not happen and just bring me somewhere I can lie down. Amara, please give the dragons my apologies for skipping out on the meeting. Shavon can you and Talon bring me somewhere to lie down and then leave me alone.” Araiya growled. She turned and started to limp away, Roky and Amara rushed over and Amara nudged Roky who scooped her into his arms.
“Luckily, we both know where we stand in this relationship,” Roky whispered. Amara laughed and patted her arm.
“Talon, Shavon why don’t we take her up to her room, and you two go and handle the dragon keep. I am sure the elemental has already told the dragons what has occurred, but just in case we don’t want any hurt feelings. You know how Fire dragons can be,” Amara called over her shoulder to the bickering couple.
Once they got to the room, Roky put her on the bed. Araiya, already half asleep, mumbled thanks, rolled over, and was out cold. Roky turned to Amara who gestured to him from the room. They shut the door and she turned to him.
“What is going on here Roky? You have been alive a lot longer than I have here. I am honestly at a loss with her. I don’t know what to expect power-wise, I don’t know what to expect mate-wise, I don’t even know what is going on with Talon and why he acts the way he does.”
“Well, I don’t know how much is true or not. I don’t even know how much we are allowed to tell you. It has been so long since the All-Mother fell. I should be able to remember everything with perfect clarity, but I can’t. No one can. There is a prophecy, but it is vague and hasn’t been shared with anyone else as far as I know. I will have to check with the Enforcers if we can share it. I am sure that the Enforcers will take over her studies. They are the only ones who have first-hand knowledge of the All-Mother’s powers. She was the only other with the power of Spirit.”
“I have wondered about that. You have lived for millennia. The All-Mother died not too long ago for your life span. Still, every dragon has been vague about the situation. How did she fall? What exactly happened?”
“The Goddess had her hand in it. We don’t know exactly what happened. That has been locked away in the center of Spirit.”
“Wait, Spirit has a keep?”
“So does Metal. They have just been closed up and hidden over time.”
“For being around for so long, I don’t know much do I? I was used to preparing the younger Chosen for the last hundred and five years and I feel like I know very little about everything else.”
“Like I said my love, the Goddess has a hand in guiding all of us. Do not feel too strongly about being kept in the dark. That is where she needed all of us.”
“How are you so okay with all this?”
“I trust in the Goddess. She always guides us to the light, not the darkness. Plus, she gave me to you. The one thing I have wanted with absolute certainty since the day I met you. I have waited for you for over a thousand years. The day that I met Araiya was the day you finally said yes. I pledge myself to you and to her. She convinced you to say yes.”
“She didn’t convince me. She outsmarted every Chosen who have come before her.”
“How?”
“We are told we cannot ask about our mates, not the mates of others. She asked Earth mother about my mate. He fell with the All-Mother, and you were chosen as my second chance mate.”
“A second chance mate, either way you have been all I have wanted for over a century. I am more than blessed.”
“You are amazing, and I am sorry I have wasted these years.”
“Don’t be. I prefer you being sure and not questioning what could be. You were and still are worth the wait.” Roky leaned in and kissed Amara, and they walked off to their room to spend the night together.
Young Mother, wake up-Araiya wake. You must leave now; someone is testing the gateways. Everyone is already awake and moving. Make sure you exit through the gate down the throat, the main vent in the volcano. I will protect your escape. ARAIYA, WAKE UP, YOU HAVE TO RUN NOW!
Pounding on the door and screaming in her head jolted her awake.
“Araiya, wake up. Araiya, we have to go get your ass up now.” Shavon came running into the room, snatching up the bags and flinging the blankets off her. Araiya was groggy and confused. She stumbled out of bed and fell to her knees, weak from yesterday.
“What is going on? Why is everyone yelling and rushing? Why am I still so weak?”
Young Mother, you need to get to the center. You need to run. The darkness is testing the gates. You have to leave; you aren’t safe here.
What do you mean I am not safe here? Where am I supposed to go? I can’t even stand or see straight I don’t know what is wrong with me.
I will take a look; you should have recouped from the test already.
Shavon grabbed everything and Amara, Roky and Talon were now in her room. Araiya was still kneeling on the floor, weak, confused, and out of it.
“Araiya, get up. We are leaving.” Shavon grabbed her arm and yanked her up, and Araiya fell straight to the floor. “Get up. What the hell is wrong with you?”
Talon dropped down to where Araiya dropped. “Is he in your head again?” He picked her off the ground and she was dead weight. She shook her head weakly.
“I don’t know what is going on.”
