Hello Young Mother, I feel you are about to leave my realm. I just wanted to give you a gift before you leave my home. Usually Terran, my son, handles this, but since he is far away from me, I will do it for you today. I give you my blessing this day Young Mother. You may come and go in my realm free of pain. My door will no longer be locked from you, and my soul is open to you when you need it. Call upon me in times of need and I will be there.

Thank you. What shall I call you?

Most young ones call me Earth Mother, but the Goddess blessed me with a name when she created me. I am Earywyn. You can call to me either way. Stay safe young one. All is not what it seems.

Thank you again for everything Earywyn.

Araiya felt a rush through her body that flowed down to her left hand. She looked down and saw a new green glyph on her first finger. It was a half-filled in circle. A thin line flowed and curled around her finger. Tiny leaves bloomed off it, almost like a vine. It ended at the base of her nail. Earth sent her a joyous feeling and contentment and then withdrew from her. She looked at her new glyph and smiled. Everyone else had made their way through the door, and she stepped through.

Talon gave her an inquisitive look but then saw her hand. He gestured to her, and she lifted her hand into his. “Holy shit,” he whispered.

“What’s wrong?” Shavon came closer and saw Araiya’s hand. “Holy shit.”

“What?” Araiya looked at them both in confusion. “Earywyn gave it to me before I left. What’s wrong.”

Both of their jaws dropped. “What did you say?” Talon looked back up to her face.

“That the Earth elemental gave this to me before I left.”

“No, you called the Earth Mother Earywyn. No one outside of the Draconian race knows that name. She is always called the Earth Mother and you’re telling us that not only did she give you her Goddess-given name, but also the key to her element.”

“The key to her element, no. Just to come and go as I please without being attacked,” Araiya countered.

“No Araiya,” Shavon stroked her finger, “this is the key to the Earth element, the only one that should have this mark is Terran. No one but the Enforcers knows what the key to their element even does.”

Araiya shrugged. “I don’t know why she gave it to me, just that she did. She didn’t explain it either. All I know is that she said she wanted to give me a blessing and that Terran usually handled it. She said it was so that I could come and go.” She pointed towards Air. “Come on we are the last ones again. I would like to get through the next door as fast as possible. People already think I am fucking weird as it is.”

They walked through to Air and the pain sizzled down her body as she tried not to cry out. The pain seemed to get worse every dang time. Once the pain settled, she was able to look around. It looked the same as Earth’s keep. She followed everyone else through the hallways until they reached another giant ramp. Only this one headed up. Slowly they climbed up the spiral ramp as it made its way hundreds of feet into the sky. When they finally emerged onto the roof of the tower there was nothing. Everyone looked around in confusion while Amara stood by the door. Finally, a Chosen of Fire asked where the roots of Air were, and Amara stepped up to the front.

“We are no longer in Earth. Here in Air, he doesn’t have roots like Earth does in her tree. It is called Air’s Eye, for you must make it through the storm to the peaceful center to connect with Air. The top of the tower seems calm, but as soon as someone steps forward they will realize that the winds up here are far stronger than down on the ground. Fight to the center and raise your arms to give thanks here. Let the winds blow across and around you. When we went to Earth, we went deep into the Element’s heart. Here we will do the same, feel his strength and give thanks.” She turned and stepped away from the group, and her hair started whipping around her. Her robes almost took flight in the force of the winds. She fought through the wind funnel to the center of the tower and her hair and clothes just dropped. She raised her arms, closed her eyes, and walked back a minute later. This time though not a strand of her hair moved. “Once you give your thanks, he lets you go without a fight.” She gestured to the first Chosen.

Everyone fought to the center, gave thanks and came back. When the Air Chosen gave thanks, a soft breeze played with their clothes as their mark glowed softly yellow. When everyone else had gone but Araiya, Amara had another Chosen lead them back down the ramp. Only Amara, Shavon, and their two mates were left with Araiya on the roof. Amara patted her back and gave her a nudge.

Araiya took a step, and the force of the wind pushed her back a step. She fought for every footstep forward. The wind whipped around her, tangling her hair and howling in her ears. She brought her arms up to cover her face to take a full breath. She pushed through the brutal wind until she fell to her hands and knees when the wind just stopped. She looked behind her to look at her friends but all she saw was a cyclone of brutal wind and debris. Air apparently wanted his thanks alone. Araiya got to her feet and walked to the dead center of the vortex. She raised her arms and called to Air. She felt something sweep through her mind, and then she heard him.

Hello Young Mother, Earywyn spoke to us about you but to be honest I didn’t believe her.

Hello Air, or would you prefer to be called by another name?

You may call me Father Air or Airyn.

Airyn, if I may be so bold, why the vortex? No one else had to fight that hard to give their thanks to you.

Ah, but they are not you, Young Mother. You are special. I promise Fire and Water will test you the same as I did.

Why am I special? I am no one.

I cannot say that the Goddess hasn’t graced us with her vision for a long time. We do not know why you were chosen to be as you are, just that you are. Power calls to power young one. Always has and always will. Someone like yourself will have a challenging road to navigate.

I don’t have any power, Airyn, I am just a new Chosen. I don’t even have a mate.

That you know of young one. You need patience and trust in yourself. Do not rush into your future. Take the time to understand your true self. Earywyn was right about you. You have led a hard life. You are destined for a challenging future.

How do you know I have lived a hard life?

Just because you cried by yourself all your life doesn’t mean the wind did not carry that sorrow to me. The winds of change are coming young one. Call out to me when you are in need. Your cries will always reach my ears. Stay strong Young Mother and remember, whether a gentle breeze or a cyclone of rage, Air will always blow in your direction.

Thank you, Airyn.

Since I am not as dramatic as my sister and my son is away, I will bestow my blessing now. I give you my blessing today young one. You may come and go in my realm free of pain. My door will no longer be locked from you, and my soul is open to you when you need it.

Araiya’s body flushed as her new glyph burned onto her hand. She felt her body lift off the ground, her hair whipping around her.

Airyn, what does this blessing do?

I cannot tell you Young Mother, just know that when the time comes you will know what to do. I have faith in you little one. Try to have faith in yourself. Stay well, Young Mother.
