For a moment, we just sit there, trying to figure out what could have caused her to become so angry that she barely had time to get out of her car before shifting into her Lycan.
Commander doesn’t like the fact that something pissed off Fortune that much. Several Warriors have mind-linked me so far, and each of them tells me that Fortune is still running around the territory, growling at every male she sees – and it doesn’t matter how far away they are.
Dad walks into the office with Diego right behind him, and the look on Diego’s face tells me that he has never seen or heard about Maleah being this angry. But then again, he always thought she was Wolfless.
A Wolfless male or female can still become angry, but it will never be as bad as when that happens with a Wolf or a Lycan. I saw it happen during my years of training with the Council of Elders, and even though a pissed-off Wolfless male is no match for a pissed-off Wolf or Lycan, it was still an amazing sight to see because he turned out to be a lot stronger than anyone had suspected.
“Does anyone have an idea as to why Maleah is so damn pissed off?” Diego asks, but none of us can give him a satisfying answer.
“Rogues on our eastern border.” I hear one of our Warriors yell through our mind-link, and we all jump up as one to rush out of the office. “Mack, Maleah is nearby, and she doesn’t respond to the mind-link.” I hear another Warrior say through our mind-link.
Of course, she wouldn’t be able to hear our mind-link. If she never shifted into her Lycan in front of the Pack, I doubt anyone thought about initiating her into the Pack.
Commander forces the shift as soon as we have cleared the Pack-house, and he is demanding a moment-to-moment update on where the Rogues are and where Maleah is. He hates the thought of her getting into trouble.
Commander is a fast Lycan, but the way he is going right now is faster than I have ever seen him go before, and everything around us is a bit of a blur. What we hear next almost makes Commander trip over his own legs.
“Mack, Maleah is turning toward the Rogues, and by the looks of it, I can tell that she is scaring the shit out of them, but they refuse to back down.” Another Warrior yells through the mind-link, and I hear a few mighty roars behind me.
A part of me is hoping that she will put those idiots back in their place, but an even bigger part of me just wants her to back off and leave it to those who are more capable of fighting a Rogue.
“I doubt she will do what you’re hoping for.” Commander growls in my head, and for some reason, I get this feeling that he is right – she’s probably capable of a lot more than we ever held possible.
I have always watched in awe when Diego was running around the training grounds, and right now, I am even more impressed because he can keep up with Commander, which isn’t an easy task. Our Alphas are right behind us, and even though they are Alpha Lycans, they have trouble keeping up with me and Diego.
Something tells me that Diego and I will reach Maleah before the rest of our leadership does.
Fortune’s p.o.v.
Not once since we shifted for the first time have I felt the urge to force a shift, but the events from the past week or so have put me on edge.
Our so-called Mother has been driving us up the wall for years. She was either bad-mouthing our Father or putting us down without realizing it. She would always complain about the fact that Dad’s Lycan was treating her badly, that he never cared for her or her Wolf – and don’t get me started about her opinion on Lycans in general.
Lycans are savages in my Mother’s book, right there with Rogues on the same page. No matter how often we asked, she wouldn’t tell us why she hated Lycans so much. Maybe it was because she couldn’t tell us.
We gave up a long time ago trying to get an answer to that question, and way before that we gave up hope on having any kind of relationship with our Mother. It is what it is.
I love living in a Pack, especially in Blood Crescent Pack because of how huge the territory is, and I enjoy running through the forest. I don’t want anyone near me at the moment – I’m afraid I might hurt them, and none of our Pack-members are responsible for my anger.
I growl at every Warrior I spot, but for some reason they’re smart enough to stay clear of me as I keep running along the border at high speed.
“Fortune!” Maleah yells in my head as I catch the penetrating scent of Rogues.
“Six of them at the eastern border. The nearest Warriors are too far off, and I can sense a handful of Pups.” Maleah tells me, and I make a beeline for the eastern border. We can’t access the Pack’s mind-link, but I make sure I move close enough to a Warrior for Maleah to use her gift. He nods his head before his eyes glaze over.
I reach the Rogues before they can cross our border and see four very young Pups near a tree. My anger spikes when I realize there’s no adult around.
I stalk toward the Rogues, but their eyes are focused on the four Pups. The moment I release my aura, their attention shifts to me, and the fear is clear in their eyes. I growl as I move closer, noticing how one of them keeps glancing at the Pups.
“Pack-members are approaching.” Maleah tells me. I take a good look at my surroundings, wanting to make sure we can capture at least one of them. I know Maleah will take great pleasure in getting answers from him.
One of the Rogues tilts his head to the left as we hear the pounding of paws approaching. Our Warriors are still at a safe distance, which means Maleah can’t warn them about the Pups. We’ll have to hold them off until the others arrive.
I growl as one Rogue tries to move toward the Pups, but it isn’t until I release more of my aura that he backs up. At that moment, all six of them look behind me.
“The cavalry just arrived.” Maleah says mockingly as I notice the Rogues starting to back off.
“No way in hell. They’re mine.” I growl, telling Maleah to warn Dad about the Pups while I decide to take down their biggest member – clearly their leader.
“Dad, they’re after the Pups. Four of them are near the tree behind you.” I hear Maleah say as I lunge toward my target. He’s so baffled by my attack that I have him pinned to the ground in seconds, not even giving him a chance to react as I release even more of my aura.
