Robin looked at his sister sorrowfully. “Irene, why do you always pretend?”

Irene quickly folded her smile. “No, I’m not. I’m tired, you know. I’m frustrated, angry, resentful, and can’t accept everything that’s happening, but I can’t let it all go like that.” She gently patted Robin’s shoulder. Then she walked towards her neatly arranged bed. “Come, sit with me.”

Robin, still pouting but not arguing, saw Irene as a very cool person. He would always follow her words. Not their mother’s.

“How’s school going for you?”

“It’s okay. I don’t skip classes. I try to focus on the explanations. I have to be like Ronan and you.”

“Good boy.” Irene smiled proudly. “Big sister will fight hard until you both finish college. Never be afraid to dream big, okay?”

“Yes, sis.” Robin hugged his older sister affectionately, but they were suddenly interrupted by Hari’s arrival. He was carrying a paper bag.

“Welcome home, sis.”

Although… sometimes Irene was tired of supporting them financially, but who else could they depend on? Their mother? That would be impossible. Instead of constantly expressing her objections to Bella and their mother, who were sometimes indifferent, she’d better be grateful that they could still be together like this.

“Sis, your phone keeps vibrating. Who is it?” Robin asked curiously. His words made Irene loosen her hug a bit. She took out the phone from her bag. The name “Mrs. Sunny” appeared on the screen.

“Yes, Mrs. Sunny?” “Have you chosen yet?”

Irene sighed softly. “There are four suitable candidates, and I’ve contacted them too. I introduce them once a week, but with Sebastian’s busy schedule, there are some gaps that I have to adjust.”

“I don’t understand all the arrangements, it’s your job. What’s important is that I want Sebastian to come to the blind date. Don’t let him refuse.”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“Make sure he comes, Irene,” Sunny warned. “It’s for Bella’s sake too.”

Sometimes, Irene was puzzled by thoughts like this. It’s not that she didn’t want to bother with her boss’s matchmaking issues. But Bella? Lately, Bella hadn’t mentioned the red-haired woman. “Yes, Mrs. Sunny, I’ll do my best with all the available options.”

“Did Sebastian respond positively? Did you tell him?”

“Yes. But Mr. Sebastian is still adamantly refusing. However, I’ll try talking to Bella. The key is there, right, Mrs.?” “Exactly! You’re absolutely right. Oh… Sebastian and Bella are lucky to have you. Choose the best for them, okay?”

Sunny looked at her phone with pride. It felt so satisfying when everything went according to her plans. She didn’t care if her husband looked at her in surprise. He even said, “Don’t go overboard, dear.”

“Overboard with what?” Sunny frowned in annoyance. “I’m just trying to make Sebastian realize. So he won’t keep fooling around with women. I’ll be the one dealing with the headache if suddenly some woman shows up claiming to be pregnant with Sebastian’s child.”

Her husband, Mr. Herry, burst into laughter. “Your thoughts are wild, dear.”

“Why do you say that?” She pouted and plopped herself on the sofa, sitting right next to her husband. “Don’t you know what reports Irene gave me about Sebastian? There’s a lot that kid is hiding, but I know why, Pa. Irene doesn’t want Sebastian to be scolded and burdened with questions about his love life.”

“Well, that’s good, dear.”

“Good from what perspective?” Sunny glared, feeling indignant. “Sebastian is already over thirty, Pa. Don’t we want to see our own child get married?”

“Surely Sebastian needs to consider many things about the women around him.” Mr. Herry knew that arguing with Sunny would only put him in danger.

“That’s enough!” Sunny huffed and waved her hand dismissively. “You don’t know Mama’s plans. I’ve discussed this with Aunt Alexi, you know. She may be annoying and can’t be joked with, but she thinks about Bella too. She knows that Bella only has Sebastian. If Sebastian ends up with someone who doesn’t care about Bella, we’ll be in trouble. Poor Bella, Pa. How can she lose the person she considers her parent figure?”

Mr. Herry sighed softly. “So what’s Mama’s plan?”

“I want to make Sebastian realize that Irene is right beside him. How can someone be so caring towards him and completely ignore Bella? Mama wonders why some men are so oblivious. Who is Sebastian descended from? Even Mama can see that Irene’s care for both of them is genuine.”

Mr. Herry winced and scratched his slightly itchy neck.

“It seems none of Papa’s descendants are perceptive!”

See, why does Mr. Herry end up being the target? “Isn’t it going to backfire if this matchmaking goes smoothly? If Sebastian and that woman are compatible, what about Irene?”

Sunny side again. “Does Mama know how Irene feels? From what Mama sees, she is kind and patient with Bella. Even when she’s with Sebastian, she doesn’t seem like his assistant. Sometimes she feels more like his lover. But the problem is, Sebastian completely ignores Irene.”

“You’re quite amusing, Mama,” Mr. Herry chuckled. “Both of them don’t like being forced to see each other.”

“Oh!” Sunny glared fiercely. “I’ll do anything to find a match for Sebastian. Get married soon, have children if possible, so that Bella won’t be lonely if she has a sibling. Period. No more objections. Let Irene handle the matchmaking.” She stood up abruptly, stomping away in annoyance, leaving her husband with a lingering smile on his lips.

“Just wait until you enter the bedroom! You’ll sleep outside.”

Goodness, God! Sunny sometimes gives Mr. Herry a headache.

Meanwhile, at almost the same time, in a different location, Irene stared in disbelief at her phone, which had returned to the home screen. When she looked up, she found her two younger siblings staring at her intently. They were probably confused by the conversation they accidentally overheard.

To make her two younger siblings feel a bit more at ease, Irene smiled and said, “You both go back to your room. Big sister is tired and wants to sleep.”

Neither of her younger siblings objected or argued. After giving them a quick hug, where Irene felt “whole,” although sometimes her sense of wholeness was shattered by various situations, at least tonight she could peacefully rest. Especially when her younger sibling handed her a cup of warm chocolate. Irene had a fondness for warm chocolate, which was a menu item at her café.

Just as Irene closed the bedroom door, making sure nothing was left behind, her phone demanded attention once again. This time, Irene furrowed her brow in astonishment at the name that appeared on the screen: Bella. “Yes, Bella?”
