Filed to story: A Little Princess's Journey from Darkness to Light Novel
Blake swiftly maneuvered through the crowd and spotted a head bobbing in the water.
Even more peculiarly, there were two girls sobbing uncontrollably, both completely soaked.
He had heard that two girls had fallen into the water. Had they already been rescued?
A middle-aged woman cried out, “Give me back my daughter! My poor daughter!”
She was in a state of panic, insisting on entering the water.
Blake immediately pulled her aside. “Don’t go in there!”
The woman refused to listen and persisted, “Save my daughter, please!”
However, a few elderly men and women on the shore shouted, “No, it’s a man… there’s a man too!”
So, was it a man or a woman?
The middle-aged woman pushed Blake away, but was quickly pulled back.
He sternly asked her, “Can you swim?”
The woman shook her head.
Blake said, “Don’t go in there. Wait here for me. Understand?”
After speaking, he jumped into the water. There was a life at stake and time was of the essence.
Blake rowed towards the floating head.
Meanwhile, the middle-aged woman disregarded his warning and jumped into the water. The water near the edge was shallow, but it gradually deepened towards the center. She walked along the edge, shouting, “Save my daughter!”
Before she could finish, she lost her footing and slipped, falling into the river!
In a panic, the woman cried out, struggling and flailing her limbs.
“Help…”
Blake was annoyed. He had explicitly told her not to come in, knowing she couldn’t swim, yet she had disregarded his warning.
He focused on the head in the middle of the river, which had stopped moving.
The middle-aged woman was closer, only two meters away.
If he were to save the person in the middle of the water, the woman might be dead by the time he reached her. The person in the middle of the river was already motionless and most likely deceased.
Blake would obviously prioritize saving the person who had a higher chance of survival. When rescuing someone, it is common to prioritize their likelihood of survival rather than who is more deserving.
Blake swam back at top speed, pulling the woman out of the water and bringing her to the shore before swimming back to the middle of the river.
The woman fell into the muddy riverbank, crying out once before being pulled ashore by nearby people. Her cries could still be heard from a distance.
Bettany and Lilly couldn’t keep up with Blake’s speed and had just reached the shore.
Lilly looked towards the shore and immediately panicked.
“Daddy, Daddy!” She ran down.
Bettany was alarmed. “Lilly, don’t go down there!”
Lilly turned around. “Don’t worry, Grandma! I know what I’m doing. You stay safe!”
With that, she ran off.
Bettany didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t go down herself as it would only cause more trouble.
She held onto her remote controller, backing her wheelchair up half a meter. There were too many people by the river, and she would only create more trouble if she fell in.
Bettany retreated to a safe spot and asked a passer-by to watch over Lilly.
Lilly, despite her short legs, was a fast runner and quickly reached the shore. She didn’t act recklessly and cupped her hands around her mouth to shout, “Dad! Come back!”
A man ran over and lifted her up. “Don’t go running around, little girl!”
The winds by the river were strong, and Blake could only hear the sound of his own rowing. He had reached the middle of the river and reached out to grab the floating person.
The moment his fingers closed around the person’s clothing, Blake felt a sticky, slippery sensation.
He found it very strange. This person had just fallen into the water, so why did they feel mossy and slimy, as if algae had started to grow on them? The person was lying on their back, revealing a pale and lifeless face with upturned eyes. It was a terrifying sight.
It was a man.
Blake was shocked. Just then, he felt something wrapping around his ankles, pulling him into the water!
“What?”
How dare you deceive me, of all people?
Blake forcefully freed his feet, stomping down fiercely!
Anyone would have been terrified when faced with a corpse, but not Blake.
Anyone would have been frightened if something in the water suddenly grabbed their ankle, but not Blake.
Blake remained calm. He grabbed the floating male corpse and kicked vigorously. Unlike most people, he was able to utilize his strength underwater due to his previous underwater training.
It felt like he was kicking against something round and soft. Since he had lost his footing after stomping down, the round object was likely shaped like a human head.
Blake didn’t have time to think about what was underwater. He grabbed the male corpse and swam vigorously towards the shore.
However, the underwater force relentlessly caught up to his leg once again.
Blake was dragged backward once more. This underwater force seemed quite strong.
Blake furrowed his brow. He let go of the corpse and pushed it forcefully towards the shore. Whether the corpse made it or not was beyond his control now.
His own safety was far more important.
After doing so, he was able to swim with both hands.
Yet the force underwater had now caught both of his ankles. Blake was no longer being dragged backward, but he couldn’t swim forward either. He was stuck.
His ankles felt slimy, like the corpse from earlier.
Blake’s mind raced. If he didn’t panic, he might be able to withstand this underwater force until the authorities arrived.
But there was no guarantee. He didn’t know what he was dealing with and whether it would suddenly unleash a burst of energy.
Just then, a ray of green light illuminated the water. A parrot was seen carrying an amulet in its mouth. It flew to Blake and landed on his head.
Blake thought to himself, What the…
Polly held the amulet in her beak, pecking at Blake’s head repeatedly.
Blake was speechless.
He reached out to grab the amulet.
Polly immediately flew up, squawking, “Burn it! Burn it!”
Lilly had been anxiously watching from the shore and sensed the dark energy surrounding Blake as he struggled in the water.
She couldn’t go there, and the authorities hadn’t arrived yet.
