“What sound are you listening to?” she asked in confusion.
“The sound of the sewing machine is very pleasant,” he said.
She couldn’t help but laugh, remembering that he had said such things when they were children. “Then when I step on the sewing machine, you can listen to it more,” he had said.
“Okay,” he replied, gently pulling her hand down from his forehead and rubbing it against his cheek.
Even though he had forgotten about their relationship, his body still instinctively longed for something.
“Let’s go on a date,” he said, the words coming out of his mouth without him even realizing it.
Veronica never expected to hear the word “date” from Mason’s mouth. A date… it felt like they were really in a relationship.
“Don’t you want to?” Mason’s voice rang in her ear again.
“No,” she quickly replied, “but if we’re going on a date, is there anything you want to do?”
“Just do some things that normal couples do, and see if we’re compatible for a relationship,” he said.
Normal things that couples do? Veronica was taken aback, and memories of what she had done to him on the couch flashed through her mind. Oh my god, what was she thinking!
“Okay, when?” she asked.
“Do you have time on the weekend?” he asked.
She didn’t have to work on the weekend, but… “I have something going on at school this weekend, there’s a meeting in my class.”
“Okay, call me 20 minutes before you come out, and I’ll send someone to pick you up,” Mason said.
“No need, just tell me where to meet you, and I’ll go there myself,” she said.
“Wouldn’t it be a waste of time for you to go by yourself? I don’t want to waste too much time,” he said.
“…” Veronica was silent for a moment before saying, “Okay then.”

Did he mean he didn’t want to waste time waiting for her, or did he mean… the time they spent trying to date each other?
What did this kind of interaction mean to him? And yet, she was desperately trying to seize this one opportunity to get closer to him!
The next day, Veronica kept checking the time on her phone during the class meeting.
“Veronica, what’s wrong? You seem to be very concerned about the time,” Shirley, who was sitting next to her, asked.
“It’s nothing, just that I have something else to do after the meeting today,” she replied.
“Something else? Don’t tell me you’re working today too,”
Shirley sighed, “Your dad is really something, not even paying for your tuition and making you work to earn it yourself!”
“I’m already an adult, and I don’t need him to pay for my tuition. This is fine for me now,” Veronica said.
“Fine? What’s so fine about it? If you keep this up, you won’t even have time to find a boyfriend,”
Shirley said.
Boyfriend… A blush appeared on Veronica’s face as she thought of Mason.
Come on! He’s not even her boyfriend yet!
Although… some of their actions towards each other seemed to be closer than those of a boyfriend and girlfriend.
“By the way, that senior we saw the other day, the one you used to know. I noticed the way he looked at you, it seemed different. He’s probably just doing delivery as a part-time job, but he looks pretty good. Have you been in contact with him since you reunited?” Shirley looked at Veronica with a suggestive expression.
“No, it’s impossible between him and me,” Veronica said with absolute certainty.
Yes, she and Daniel were impossible from the beginning.
“I was just kidding. You’re so firm in your denial,” Shirley said, amazed.
As the class meeting was coming to an end, Veronica sent a text message to Mason: “I’m almost done here.”
After a moment, Mason replied, saying that someone would pick her up at the school gate.
“Who did you send the message to? Don’t tell me you have a boyfriend and didn’t tell me,” Shirley said.
“Just… a friend,” Veronica hesitated and said. Her relationship with Mason was considered that of friends.
When the class meeting ended, she packed up her things and walked out of the campus. Suddenly, she was stunned when she saw a silver-gray Maybach parked at the school gate.
Could it be… this is the car that Mason sent to pick her up?
And then, the person who got out of the car seemed to confirm her guess. It was the Reed family’s driver, whom she knew.
“Miss Barlow, Mason sent me to pick you up,” the driver said.
Veronica smiled awkwardly, “Then… let’s get in the car first.”
At this moment, the car had already attracted the attention of others at the school gate. Many students who were coming and going were looking at the car, and many people were also looking at Veronica and the driver.
The two got into the car, and the car slowly drove away from the campus.
Not far away, Shirley and other classmates witnessed the scene. Someone couldn’t help but ask, “Who was that person just now? He came to pick up Veronica in a luxury car! I remember Veronica always worked hard and had a job. Her family shouldn’t have money, right?”
“Could it be her relative?”
“Whose relative would come to pick someone up in such a luxury car? This car is a global limited edition, and it costs at least ten million yuan.”
T’en million yuan? Oh my god, that’s like having a villa on the road.”
“The person who got out of the car just now looked almost 40 years old. Veronica always talks about working hard, could it be that she’s doing some ‘special’ work?”
Shirley couldn’t stand it anymore, “Have you guys had enough? Making these kinds of guesses about a girl is terrible! It’s just someone coming to pick up Veronica, it’s not a big deal. Veronica is working at a talent agency now, maybe a celebrity asked the driver to pick her up on the way!”
“Veronica is just doing odd jobs, right? Would a celebrity ask a driver to pick up someone doing odd jobs in a luxury car?” someone retorted.
“Who knows what kind of shady business Veronica is doing in private!”
“Exactly!”
Shirley couldn’t stand it anymore, “Okay, fine. I believe that Veronica is definitely not that kind of person!”
However, she didn’t know how to explain the scene just now.
The driver drove Veronica to the entrance of the city library.
“Mason is in the VIP room on the third floor. After Miss Barlow goes in, someone will take her there,”
the driver said.
“Okay, thank you,” Veronica replied.
As she walked into the library, a staff member greeted her and, after confirming her name, led her to the VIP room on the third floor before leaving.
Veronica stood at the door, surprised that their first date after reuniting was at the library.
She lightly knocked on the door and slowly pushed it open.
In front of her was a familiar figure sitting in a chair with an open book on his desk. At that moment, his handsome face turned towards her.
“You’re here,” Mason said.
“Did you wait long?” she asked, feeling a bit embarrassed.
“Not really, I can always use this time to do some research,” he replied.
“By the way, you didn’t have to send a driver to pick me up in that car,” she said.
“You don’t like that kind of car?” he asked.
“It’s a bit too attention-grabbing,” she said. The car had been a focal point when it arrived at the school gate.
“Then which car from my family do you like to be picked up in?”
he asked.
Veronica was stunned, realizing that all the cars from the Reed family were luxury cars with high values. She broke out in a cold sweat and said, “Never mind, forget I said anything. So, what do you want to do now, read?”
She wondered if he planned to have their first date in the library.
“I’ve read enough for now,” he closed the book and stood up. “You mentioned before that you wanted to find some books, so let’s go look for them.”
She didn’t expect him to remember something she had said unintentionally.
The two of them arrived at the borrowing hall on the first floor of the library. Veronica found the books she needed while Mason followed her and kept her company.
“Um, I still need to look for a while. Why don’t you find an empty seat and wait for me? I’ll come find you when I’m done,” she said.
“No need,” he refused decisively. “You keep looking.”
“Oh,” she responded, feeling like she had grown a little tail.
He used to be her little tail, following her wherever she went.
But now, this “little tail” was attracting too much attention.
There weren’t many people in the library yet, but him following her around had already caught the attention of many.
Veronica glanced at Mason beside her and thought about how he used to be looked at like this by many girls. In elementary, middle, and high school, there were many girls who secretly liked him, and even some who had the courage to confess to him face-to-face.
And he must have had many women who liked him while he was abroad. What about his feelings towards those women…
“What are you thinking about?” Mason’s voice suddenly sounded in her ear.
“I was thinking if you had any women you liked in these past few years,” she said, only realizing what she had said after the words had left her mouth. She was suddenly embarrassed.
What was she even saying?
“If I had someone I liked, would I still be standing here with you?” he said.
