Is there truly a misunderstanding between her and him?
Veronica fainted, while at the same time, Mason had already boarded a plane heading overseas.
His gaze, through the airplane window, looked upon the airport in sight.
And in his hand, he tightly held his phone, the screen displaying his contacts.
After a while, he turned his head and looked at the contacts on his phone, then selected the name
“Veronica”.
Veronica, Veronica…
Once upon a time, she became everything to him. His emotions, whether happy or sad, seemed to revolve around her only.
My father once told him, “Putting all your emotions into one person is like gambling. If you win, it could lead to a lifetime of happiness. But if you lose, it could be a disaster.”
And now… is he beyond redemption?
He thought she would at least believe him, but she easily believed that he was involved in the kidnapping case, even one of the masterminds behind it.
Her lack of trust made him feel like he was falling into an abyss.
He realized that, for him, putting all his emotions on her was a point of no return.
So, he wanted to leave, to get away from here. He was afraid that if he didn’t leave, he wouldn’t be able to control himself from seeing her, and then… perhaps his pain would only grow stronger.
“Do you really want to go abroad?” His father asked him this last night when he told his parents about his plan to go abroad.
“Yes, I want to go abroad,” he replied. “As for the kidnapping case, I will come back when it’s time to testify.”
“Why do you suddenly want to go abroad? Is it related to Veronica?” Grace asked. After all, today her son went out with Veronica to the Barlow family, but when he came back, he was alone.
“Mom, this is between me and her. I don’t want anyone to interfere, so you don’t need to disturb her or say anything to her. Tomorrow, I will leave Emerald City. I want to have a peaceful time outside for a while.”
“But…”
“Mum, I’m not a kid anymore. I know exactly what I’m saying and doing!”
After he said this, his mother didn’t say anything else.
The plane began to taxi and was about to take off. Jasper’s finger hovered over his phone screen, and finally, he deleted “Veronica” from his contacts.
From now on, she was no longer his Veronica!
And he didn’t have to be in so much pain anymore!
If she can’t trust him and can’t truly see him as the most important person, only treating him like a little brother, then it will only cause him more and more pain.
His emotions will only become more and more out of control, and may even…
Therefore, completely cutting her off may be the best thing for him or for her.
“Veronica, you are no longer the most important person to me!” he murmured, closing his eyes.
The plane soared into the sky.
The plane soared into the sky.
Sometimes, parting ways can be surprisingly easy!
When Veronica opened her eyes and woke up, she saw a white ceiling above her.
Looking around, she realized that she was lying in a hospital room.
Hospital? How did she end up in the hospital?
Just then, the door to the hospital room opened and Jasper walked in. When he saw that Veronica had woken up, he breathed a sigh of relief. “Veronica, thank goodness you’re awake,” he said.
“What happened to me earlier?” she murmured, but her throat was dry and had a burning sensation.
“You had a fever. The doctor just gave you a shot to bring it down. Take some medicine later and you should be fine,” Jasper replied.
“I’m sorry to have caused you trouble,” Veronica said.
Suddenly, she seemed to remember something and her face changed. “By the way, what about
Mason?”
Mason is leaving! Veronica needs to hurry to the airport to stop him!
With this in mind, Veronica quickly threw off her blanket and got out of bed.
Jasper quickly stopped her and asked, “Veronica, what are you doing?”
“I’m going to the airport. I need to ask Mason what really happened with the kidnapping case,” she replied. If he says that he had nothing to do with it, she will believe him.
Yes, she should trust him!
He’s Mason, the Mason she grew up with. But now, even Jasper sees Mason’s true character more clearly than she does, and she’s still doubting him.
“Wait! Veronica, even if you go now, it’s too late!” Jasper quickly stopped her. “Mason’s plane should have taken off by now.”
“Taken off?” Veronica was stunned for a moment, then quickly began searching for something.
“Where’s my phone? My phone?”
“Here!” Jasper quickly handed Veronica the phone that was placed on the bedside table.
Veronica picked up her phone and dialed Mason’s number, but she couldn’t get through.
Jasper noticed and advised, “He probably turned off his phone on the plane. Wait until Mason lands and then try calling him again, Veronica.”
“Do you know where Mason is going abroad?” Veronica asked.
Jasper shook his head. “I’m not sure, but once you get through to Mason, you can ask him and find out.”
Jasper believed that if Veronica wanted to reconcile with Mason, it wouldn’t take long for them to make up and for Mason to come back.
Veronica tightly grips her phone in her hand. Yes, when the time comes, she’ll just have to ask and everything will become clear.
What Veronica didn’t expect was that no matter how many times she tried to call Mason, she couldn’t get through.
And when she arrived at the Reed family to inquire about
Mason’s situation, it was the head of the Reed family, Jason, who met her in the study.
“Mason… where are you now?” Veronica asked urgently. “How are you? Are you safe?” She was afraid that something had happened to him, which was why he wasn’t answering her calls.
“Mason is currently in Zambia and nothing unexpected has happened,” said Jason. “However, he won’t be returning home in the short term. He will come back to testify in court on the day of the trial.”
Veronica paused for a moment. If she had to wait until then to come back to testify, it would be at least another two months!
But she…she really wanted to see Mason now, to find out what had happened with the kidnapping case, and to hear it from Mason himself!
“Where is Mason now in Zambia?” Veronica asked.
“I don’t know,” Jason replied.
Veronica was taken aback. “You don’t know? What does that mean?”
“The idea is that as soon as he arrived in Zambia, he got rid of the Reed family and the bodyguards who were with him.
However, he calls every night to show that he’s safe.
Obviously, he doesn’t want people to know his exact location,” Jason said. Or maybe he’s afraid that someone will go looking for him and it will affect his decision?
Jason naturally understood some of his son’s thoughts.
Veronica remained silent. Does this mean she really has to wait for the trial in two months to see
Mason again and hear the truth about the case from him?
At that moment, Jason handed a stack of documents to
Veronica.
“This is what you’re concerned about. I think you’ll be interested in taking a look,” Jason said.
Veronica took the documents and her eyes widened suddenly as she looked at the first page. This was…the investigation materials and testimonies of everyone involved in the kidnapping case.
These…shouldn’t be visible!
“I heard that you and Mason had a falling out over this matter, so you might want to take a look,” Jason said.
Veronica flipped through the pages one by one, and her emotions rose and fell with each turn of the page.
All the evidence and the confession of the suspect indicate that the kidnapping case was initially carried out by Lionel.
Lionel planned a fake kidnapping, and the testimonies of other nightclub attendees and unrelated individuals can support this.
Furthermore, the messages sent by Lionel were not actually delivered, as Mason had already blocked
Lionel’s number days before the kidnapping occurred, according to the telecom company’s records.
Therefore, Mason was completely unaware of the kidnapping from start to finish. It was only Lionel’s mistaken belief that Mason knew about it.
As Veronica looked at the documents in front of her, tears welled up in her eyes and fell onto the papers in her hands.
As Veronica looked at the document in front of her, tears welled up in her eyes and fell onto the paper with a steady drip, drip.
Just like Jasper said, Mason…no matter what, he couldn’t bear to hurt her!
And yet, she knew what kind of person he was. Even if Lionel had proposed something to him beforehand, Mason would have been too proud to go along with it. He might have even tried to stop it.
So why did she choose not to believe him at the time? Why did she act that way?
“If he didn’t know about the kidnapping beforehand, then why…why didn’t he want to explain to me why he was the first one to arrive at the scene?” Veronica murmured to herself.
Jason sighed, “It seems like he didn’t have a chance to tell you yet. I already advised him that some things need to be clarified as soon as possible, because if you wait too long, it might be too late.”
