smile spread across his face, and as he finished speaking, he threw his gun to the ground.

Veronica’s heart sank, while the kidnapper holding her breathed a sigh of relief and even showed a hint of smugness.

Although Jasper from the Reed family escaped, we now have Mason from the same family in our hands. So, what about the ransom…

When the kidnappers were relaxed, Mason suddenly moved his wrist and threw a stone, hitting one of the kidnapper’s hands. While the kidnapper was in pain, in the next moment, Mason rushed directly towards him. In a split second, he knocked the kidnapper down to the ground with just one blow!

Then, there were only two sounds of “crack, crack”, and the person’s wrists were already broken by both hands.

The man was screaming in pain, while Veronica was staring blankly at the scene in front of her. It wasn’t until Mason took off his jacket and put it on Veronica that she snapped out of it.

“You-” she looked at him, not knowing what to say.

“I told you, I will protect Veronica,” he said, buttoning up her jacket one by one. “I won’t let these people go, especially the one who pointed the gun at you just now!”

Veronica was stunned. After he finished buttoning up her jacket, he turned around and lifted the tied-up bandit with broken hands, then slammed his head hard against a nearby tree.

In an instant, the bandit’s head was bleeding, and Veronica shuddered.

He kept pulling the bandit and hitting him against the tree, while the man’s cries for mercy became weaker and weaker.

At that moment, Mason’s face showed obvious violence.

“Don’t… don’t hit him anymore!” Veronica said. Although the bandit was despicable, if someone died, even the second son of the Reed family would go to jail!

“But I don’t want to let him go,” Mason said.

“Of course… they won’t be let go. The police will catch them and make them face the consequences,” Veronica said, trembling slightly.

Even she herself wasn’t sure if the trembling was due to the fear of being forcibly undressed earlier or the sight of the bloody scene before her.

As if sensing her discomfort, Mason stopped his hand and said, “Alright, I’ll listen to Veronica.” He then let go of the person.

She lowered her eyes and looked at his pale fingers stained with crimson blood. She thought of when he had protected her by beating up people much older than them who had bullied her. His hands were also stained with blood back then.

She had once told herself to protect him and prevent his hands from being stained with blood, but now… he was still protecting her!

Mason suddenly crouched down with his back facing

Veronica.

“What are you doing?” She was confused.

“I’m carrying Veronica down the mountain,” he said.

“I… I can walk down the mountain by myself,” she said, even though her knee hurt a bit from falling earlier, but it wasn’t a problem to walk down the mountain.

However, he maintained this position with Grace, as if he was insisting on something.

Veronica pursed her lips and finally crawled onto Mason’s back.

He slowly stood up and walked down the mountain with a burden on his back.

“How did you find your way here?” Veronica asked.

After hesitating for a moment, Mason said, “I just stumbled upon some clues and decided to follow them. I’m sure it won’t be long before my people and the police arrive here.”

He didn’t tell her that he had installed a tracking device in her necklace, it was an instinct that made him avoid telling her the truth.

“Really?” Veronica murmured. Perhaps due to her previously high-strung nerves, she now felt completely exhausted. “I don’t even know how Lionel is doing.”

“He’s okay now. When I went into the warehouse earlier, I fought the person who was guarding him. He only got a few hits and wasn’t seriously injured,” said Mason.

“Is he really involved in this kidnapping?” When she and Jasper woke up earlier, the person guarding them said that it was planned by his own brother Lionel.

And at that time, it was indeed Lionel who led them to the private room and even caused them to faint!

“Everything will be thoroughly investigated by the police,” said Mason. “Veronica, I’m glad you’re okay.”

“But Jasper, she doesn’t know how she is now,” Veronica said anxiously.

“Jasper should be fine. I ran into her on my way here. She will find a safe place and wait for the Reed family and the police to arrive.”

“Is that so? That’s good then.”

Veronica finally feels a bit relieved at the moment.

He carried her on his back, taking each step steadily. She realized that the boy she used to protect had grown broad shoulders, and being carried by him felt so secure.

When the two arrived at the foot of the mountain, Veronica only saw several cars parked not far away, including police cars. Some police officers rushed towards them upon seeing them.

Are they safe now?

Veronica thought this and at that moment, her body completely relaxed as if she couldn’t hold on any longer, and she fainted.

Veronica felt like she had just woken up from a very long dream. In the dream, she was constantly running in a dark and endless space.

She didn’t know where she was running to or where the finish line was.

She just kept running, wanting to escape the constant sound of footsteps behind her.

But then, her feet seemed to trip on something and she fell hard to the ground, with someone pinning her down.

A feeling of fear spread through her body.

“No…no…” she shouted desperately, trying to push the person off of her.

Suddenly, her hands were grabbed and a voice whispered in her ear – “Veronica…Veronica…”

“Ahh!” Veronica suddenly opened her eyes to a bright room and a familiar face.

It was…Mason!

She stared at him in shock before realizing that she had just had a nightmare.

“Veronica, did you have a terrible dream?” Mason asked, tightly holding her hand.

Veronica took a deep breath and said, “I had a dream… I was so scared that I kept running.”

“Don’t be afraid,” he said, lifting his hand to gently wipe away the tears that had welled up in the corners of her eyes.

“Everything is okay now.”

“So… what about the kidnappers?” she asked urgently.

“The kidnappers have all been caught,” she said.

“What about Lionel?”

“Mason said, ‘He is currently being detained at this police station.””

Veronica pursed her lips tightly. Although she knew that

Lionel was involved in this matter, even if he was not the mastermind, she couldn’t ignore the fact that he was her own brother.

Even though she usually can’t stand Lionel and doesn’t have any affection for her stepmother, she still doesn’t want Lionel to actually commit any serious crimes.

“Don’t worry, the police will investigate everything thoroughly,”

said Mason.

“Okay.” Veronica nodded and then looked around the room. “Is this a hospital?”

“Yes, the doctor examined you. Although you have some bruises, they’re not serious. You’ll stay in the hospital overnight for observation. If everything is okay, you can be discharged tomorrow,” he said.

“What about Jasper? How is she? Is she also in the hospital now?” she asked again.

“She’s in the next ward,” Mason said.

“I want to go see her,” Veronica said. She needed to see her with her own eyes to feel at ease.

“It’s nighttime now. Maybe she’s already asleep. You can go see her tomorrow morning. Besides, she has fewer injuries than you. What could happen?” Mason said.

Veronica then noticed that it was already pitch black outside the window!

“You must be hungry. I’ll have someone bring you the prepared porridge,” he said and then pressed the bedside intercom.

After a moment, someone brought over hot porridge and small dishes.

Eight small dishes, paired with the porridge, were refreshing and appetizing.

“The doctor said that if you wake up, it’s best to have some light porridge first,” he said, carefully helping her up from the hospital bed.

Veronica was about to get out of bed, but the next moment, Mason had already picked her up horizontally.

“Ah!” she exclaimed, “I can walk by myself.”

He simply picked her up and placed her on the chair by the table.

The person holding the porridge left the ward, leaving only

Mason and Veronica inside.

He carefully scooped up some porridge and gently blew on it to cool it down before offering it to her lips.

She was a bit dazed until his voice echoed in her ear, “What’s wrong, Veronica doesn’t like to eat this?” Only then did she come to her senses.

“No.” She quickly replied, opened her mouth, and took a spoonful of porridge. “I can manage on my own.”

“Veronica, your hand seems to be injured, so let me feed your instead,” he said.

“So, your hand…” Her gaze fell on his fair hands.

At this moment, his hands are very clean, which is completely different from his bloody hands when he was beating the bandits earlier.

At first, his hands were pulling and suppressing her, making her feel unable to resist. But it was also these hands that knocked down the kidnappers and saved her from their grasp.

“What are you looking at my hand for?” Mason asked.

“Are your hands okay? Did they get hurt?” she asked with concern.
