Her dad only asks occasionally, “Where are you, Bella? Have you eaten? Don’t get too tired because of school, okay, Bella? Miss you.”

Bella doesn’t need that, what she needs is… “Hey, could you comb it nicely, sis? The other day when Mom combed it, it felt really beautiful.”

“You are beautiful, Bella,” praised Irene. “After eating Sour Sally, let’s buy some hair vitamins, okay? Your hair is tangled.”

“I rarely comb it because I often wake up late.”

Irene laughs. “So you sleep late every night?”

Bella nods without hesitation. “I often can’t sleep, so I just play with my phone.”

“But you went to bed early last night, didn’t you?” Irene teases her. The girl turns her head with an annoyed expression.

“Last night, I was tired from doing homework and memorizing some parts I didn’t understand.” Then her eyes return to studying what Irene told her on another sheet. “I think I made a mistake here, that’s why Miss Mia deducted my grade.” Irene smiles thinly. “Do you know your mistake now?”

This time her anger dissipates, replaced by a wide grin. “Yes, Irene. Thank you.” She shakes her head. Her hair moves along with the motion of her head. “Where is my folding mirror? It should be here. Did it get lost?”

Oh, where did this child learn about makeup? When Irene checks her makeup bag, she sighs in relief. It only contains a comb, mirror, hair ties, and hair clips. Thank goodness! Irene was expecting things like powder, eyeshadow, lip tint, moisturizer, or anything related to teenage makeup!

“Irene!” Bella calls a bit loudly. “What are you thinking about? The ice cream is melting!”

Irene blinks. “Uh!” She quickly scoops the melted part, though there is still a crease on her forehead. “Is this… sure it’s tasty, Bella?”

“It’s delicious. Miss Irene will definitely like it.” Bella speaks casually. “The kiwi is wrapped like that, Miss, with the ice cream.”

Although hesitant, seriously, Irene is really hesitant. The ice cream is so dark, oh my! But since Bella doesn’t suddenly get sick, Irene gives it a try. And as it enters her mouth, she is astonished. “Wait, why is it delicious?” “What’s delicious?”

“What are you doing here?”

“Just because I didn’t ask you to come to the office doesn’t mean you can have fun at the mall, Irene!” ******

“How far have we arrived?”

Ck! That’s the umpteenth question that has come out of Sebastian’s mouth today. Yet the man is busy with the steering wheel, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. Sometimes Sebastian also honks the horn, although not too loudly. Why not just focus on driving? Instead, he asks Bella about Irene’s progress report.

“In 2011, nothing unusual happened. The cash flow was fine, and there was accountability.”

Sebastian nods slowly.

“In August 2012, there was a significant amount of funds that went out under the name Optima, but it didn’t go into that account.”

“What happened?” Sebastian furrows his brow.

“I’m not sure how to show the data, sir. This is all I remember.” Irene opens her ever-present notes. The notes specifically given to Irene by Sebastian, which will always be remembered because of the boss’s casual remarks.

Sebastian lets out a rough breath. “I need to know as soon as possible, Irene. That’s why I asked you to work in my office. I may push you with deadlines, but I provide you with facilities to work calmly. I won’t disturb you in any way.” Before Irene can speak, Sebastian speaks again, confident that his assistant will interrupt. “Do you know how important that data is? I need to prove that something is amiss with the cash flow in recent years. It was my carelessness in that particular year. And I need you to check, Irene.”

Unfortunately, Irene’s anticipated objection to his statement is met with silence. The assistant sitting beside him remains quiet, bowing her head while squeezing her hands. Her hair partially covers her face. Although Sebastian can still see the thick-framed glasses from the side, he knows that Irene is reluctant to lift her face now.

She really wants to object, especially when it comes to disturbing her. Where does Sebastian get the idea that he doesn’t disturb her while she works? Since morning, there have been numerous phone calls, chats, and emails, not to mention… ah, forget it, she’s too tired to argue with Sebastian. Her boss is always right.

“Yes, sir. I’m sorry. I’ll work on it immediately.”

Sebastian grips the steering wheel tightly. Why does Irene never want to speak honestly when scolded? Why does she always bow like that? But Sebastian knows since morning that he has made Irene busy. At the very least, Irene would talk. Defend herself. Do not stay silent like this.

And what’s more, why was she with Bella and her mother earlier? Ck!

Sunny looked at Irene with a strange gaze. Of course! Earlier, at their grandchild’s favorite ice cream cafe, Irene had a private conversation with Sebastian. It’s not that Sunny didn’t want to listen, but when it came to work matters, she chose to step back. She still didn’t want to interfere with her youngest son’s business. She just wanted to be by Sebastian’s side as a support, even though… Sunny knew that sometimes she went too far.

She should have been self-aware, considering that Sebastian is also under pressure with everything he’s facing. Sebastian Sinclair, who disliked living behind a desk. His son was like an eagle with wings spread wide. His hobby was adventuring. Far and free. Unfortunately, now those wings were neatly folded. As a mother who knew how her son usually grew up, Sunny shouldn’t add to his burdens. However, “Are you alone, Irene? Where’s Sebastian?”

Irene adjusted her glasses and smiled broadly to get rid of all the sudden thoughts that had occupied her mind earlier. “Mr. Sebastian went back to the apartment.” “That child!” Sunny grumbled irritably. “Well, never mind. You go ahead and eat. Did you have a meal with Sebastian earlier?”

Still smiling, Irene nodded. Although it was a lie that she shouldn’t have told. But what could she do when her mood was shattered? In the past, Irene thought the heaviest burden in her life was during her undergraduate thesis defense. From arranging the front page of the script to completing all the tasks. It made Irene feel like she was going crazy and wanted to give up.

Eh… Turns out there’s something even crazier than a thesis defense. Besides the work world, she also had to deal with a boss like Sebastian, the Raptor, who for some reason, was in a terrible mood this afternoon. Although Irene stayed silent, didn’t argue, didn’t complain, and even made a regretful expression, according to her boss, she was at fault, right?

Why did he leave behind the work that Sebastian clearly awaited and needed for the sake of Bella? But this is Bella, you know! Not someone else. Sebastian should realize that, right? But considering Sebastian’s behavior, acting on his whims, without thinking, what’s the point of Irene arguing?

After that long rant, the car driven by Sebastian took a different route than it should have.

“Where are we going, sir?” Irene asked in surprise. She didn’t dare to glance at the man beside her. She already felt the hairs on the back of her neck standing up. As if she were being stared at with a force of hundreds of million volts. Ready to be annihilated if she dared to look.

“Anywhere, as long as I’m happy,” Sebastian replied curtly. His eyes glared angrily at Irene.

“What about my fate, sir?”

Sebastian remained silent. His gaze returned to the road displayed in front of him. Occasionally, he honked the horn forcefully and cursed at drivers who, in his opinion, were driving recklessly. His only hope was for Irene to stop him. But she didn’t. Irene just remained silent, gripping her seatbelt. When Sebastian glanced at her, sometimes the girl would close her eyes and mumble something. Although the speed of the car wasn’t too fast, to be honest. It was just a bit reckless. Let it be. Let his assistant know that he was angry. What’s so difficult about expressing what was bottled up inside?
