Chapter 118 – A Little Princess’s Journey from Darkness to Light Novel

During the night, Blake stayed in the guest room.

He looked around at the interior, which had a neutral earthy tone and a few pieces of furniture. It was very much in line with his personality.

One could tell that it was deliberately designed.

Blake lay on the sofa and looked at Jean’s photo on his phone.

He whispered, “I’m sorry, I didn’t have the opportunity to get to know you.”

Before she passed away, he heard that she worried about Lilly the most. Iwill take good care of Lilly no matter what happens in the future.

“Don’t worry. You can rest in peace.”

Finally, Liam allowed Hannah to leave her room. Her picky eating habits were forgotten as she gobbled her food.

After placing her bowl in the dishwasher, she hurried upstairs, calling out, “Lilly! Lilly! Let’s play together!”

Lilly peeked out from her room and replied, “Hannah, I’m here.”

Hannah joyfully approached her.

However, she noticed that Lilly had taken out a book and said, “Uncle Liam asked Josh and me to help you with your studies.”

Hannah quickly changed her mind, saying, “Oh no, I suddenly feel very sleepy. I’m going to take a bath and go to bed.”

When Old Mrs. Crawford spoke to Ashley, she admitted that she was not feeling well. Old Mrs. Crawford didn’t notice anything unusual about her, so she kept an eye on her and allowed her to go back to rest.

At around eight or nine o’clock at night, the sound of reading could be heard from Lilly’s room. Drake wore a stern expression, resembling Anthony, as he looked at Josh, who was leaning on Lilly’s dresser and fiddling with his video recorder. Meanwhile, Lilly sat at her desk, holding a textbook with both hands above her head, while Hannah read the poem out loud.

Drake looked at her with a sense of hopelessness. However, what she read out loud was different from the textbook. She was simply saying random words. Drake sternly asked, “Did you remember what I just taught you?” Hannah looked at her brother’s serious face, which was even scarier than her father’s. She pulled a long face and replied, “Yes.”

Josh smirked and asked, “All of them?”

Panicked, Hannah replied, “Yes! Yes! Yes!” Drake narrowed his eyes and said, “Good, I’ll test you.” He didn’t expect her to get all the answers correct, just two would be enough. Lilly observed the interaction between Drake and Hannah.

Drake is so strict! Hannah looked at Lilly, hoping for help with the answers. Before she could say anything, Drake glared at her. Lilly quickly closed her mouth and signaled for Hannah to think of the answer herself. Despite racking her brain, Hannah still answered incorrectly, with Drake providing hints. Drake became so angry that he gave up on teaching Hannah. What on earth? he thought.

“Ask Uncle Liam to teach you!” Hannah cried pitifully, “No, please! My dad will be very angry with me. He might even have a heart attack if I go to him again.” Drake sneered, “You knew that too?”

I won’t teach her anymore! Lilly covered her mouth and snickered, while Hannah looked at her for help. Lilly pleaded on Hannah’s behalf, saying, “Drake, Hannah knows her mistakes. If you teach her again, she’ll answer correctly.”

Fine… five more minutes!

“Learn it by yourself!”

After five minutes, Drake threw the book and left. Hannah answered incorrectly again. Lilly and Hannah exchanged glances.

“Did I memorize it incorrectly again?”

“It’s wrong. Drake just explained it.”

Hannah couldn’t remember anything Drake had taught her. Lilly looked at Hannah sympathetically and asked, “Hannah, are you a slacker when it comes to studying?” Lilly had accompanied Josh to school once and learned the difference between a top-grade student and a slacker.

“I didn’t want to,” Hannah replied.

Learning is too difficult. Why do we have to study? Why do we have to take exams?

Lilly patted Hannah and comforted her, saying, “Go wash up and go to sleep!” Hannah kicked off her slippers and threw herself onto Lilly’s bed, saying, “I want to sleep in your room.”

The two little girls looked at Josh. Josh softly said, “I’ll stay a little longer.”

Why is he a boy? He also wants to sleep in this room.

Josh didn’t want to go back to his room. What if the female spirit appeared again? Suddenly, Lilly ran to her dresser and pulled out a yellow talisman from a small drawer.

“Josh, take this. Don’t be afraid!” Lilly looked at him as if she knew what he was thinking. Josh blushed and said, “Who said I’m afraid? If I were afraid, I wouldn’t have invented the device to see spirits…”

Hannah exclaimed, “What? Josh is afraid of spirits? Hahaha, you’re a coward!”

Angry at the teasing, Josh left. Hannah innocently touched her nose. What she said isn’t wrong!

As the night grew darker, only a few night lights illuminated the Crawford mansion. Josh set up his iron bowl in the room and placed a ritual blade under his pillow. He then hung the talisman given by Lilly around his neck. As he saw the curtains sway in the wind, he felt a chill and had a sense that there were people under his bed, in the bathroom, and behind the door. It felt like there were people everywhere.

Josh tensed up but eventually fell asleep. Suddenly, the wind blew. There was a subtle click from the door, as if someone was unlocking it with a key. Josh frowned in his sleep, seemingly having a nightmare. The door was pushed open without making a sound.

A person tiptoed towards Josh and stared at his sleeping figure. Suddenly, a hand reached out, getting closer and closer to him…

Josh’s eyelashes twitched. He felt something in his dream and became more restless. He abruptly opened his eyes, startled by his nightmare. As his eyes adjusted to the darkness of the room, he remembered his dream and subconsciously turned to look at the door.

His pupils shrank. When did his room door open?

Josh felt his hair standing on end and his heart racing.

“Who… who is there?” Josh shouted, trying to appear brave. He quickly turned on the lights in his room.

The room was brightly lit and the curtains swayed slightly in the breeze.

The room appeared quiet and there was nothing out of the ordinary.

Josh almost cried, but the light gave him the courage to look around.

The dim night light in the corridor was on.

At the end of the corridor, there was a shadow on the ground that resembled a person’s shadow.

Josh was frightened and immediately shut and locked the door.

He let out a sigh of relief, feeling safe.

“Don’t be afraid… Sob…” Josh couldn’t help but clutch the talisman in front of his chest.

The nightmare made him nervous and he felt as though there were people around. Maybe he had forgotten to close the door before going to sleep? Josh wasn’t sure. He usually made it a habit to close the door before bed. Did he forget tonight?

Josh lay in bed with the lights on, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

He recalled the nightmare again. Someone had opened the door to his room and wandered around. They had stood in front of his bed in the end. The more he thought about it, the more frightened he became.

Josh considered going to sleep in Lilly’s room. He could sleep on the floor.

He could also go to his brother’s room. It wouldn’t be embarrassing to sleep with his brother, right?

However, if he wanted to leave his room, he would have to pass by the corner of the corridor.

What if that “person” was hiding there? He would have a face-to-face confrontation with them.

Josh shivered and thought about going to his father. Their rooms were separated by a study, so he wouldn’t have to pass by that corner.

Josh got up, but as soon as his foot was about to touch the floor, he saw a shadow emerge from under the bed.

He quickly pulled his feet back.

“Everything is so scary!” he thought to himself.

Josh fumbled for his phone and prepared to call his father.

There was a soft click coming from the closet.

“Creak.” The closet door opened slightly.

Josh’s back stiffened and he reluctantly turned his head towards the closet.

There was a two-inch gap and it stopped. The closet seemed old and couldn’t be closed properly.
