“It didn’t happen like that! It’s not true,” I squeaked, in a desperate attempt to prove myself. But no one had cared two years ago, why would anyone now… especially Amaya of all people?

“I don’t care. But I’ll make this clear-Bryan is mine. He will mark me, and I’ll mark him. And I will be his Luna. So stay away from him… don’t even think of getting closer to him. He is mine,” she retorted curtly, anger, hatred and a murderous glint evident in her gaze as she slammed the cup in her hand to the floor, the shattering sound echoing within us as footsteps hastened around us.

“What have you done?!” Amaya’s mother Vivian screamed as she stormed in with Bryan by her side.

“You are insane! You pushed her!” he screamed, pinning the blame on me once again without waiting for my explanation, without caring for my side of the story.

“Get out! Now! I should have known just like your mother, you would always be hateful andjealous of your step-sister,” my father ordered coldly.

Scarlett’S POV

Tears welled in my eyes as I stormed out through the doors. It was raining, heavily again.

I knew I should have waited, I knew I should have asked for help… I knew it. But why stay with a family that saw me as no better than a pest? A weakling? An omega-which was no better than a stigma to their name.

Sniffling hard, with blurry eyes, I reached for my phone only for it to go off. Now I was stranded in the Bluestone pack with no means of going back home, my outfit was drenched as I ran across the streets when a car had honked from a distance.

My heart leapt in my chest seeing the window roll down. In it was Alpha Rysn, he looked pissed. Worried and perplexed altogether. Not minding how heavy the rain was, he wheeled himself out of the car, toward the little stall where I’d sought shade.

“Let’s go home, Scarlett,” he whispered softly with a smile. My heart welled up at his mention of home… I was someone’s mate. I was family to him… he was my home. I didn’t need the ones who’d abandoned me, I had someone.

“You are wet… and drenched,” I whispered, smiling awkwardly.

“And you are, crying. And drenched… but come with me. I’ll help you in… we’ll talk about this later.” He asserted in an easy tone, reaching for my arms. He wheeled himself forward once again, I pushed myself after him until I sat into the car and Alpha Rysn had settled in as well.

“I’ll begin the drive now,” Beta Derek announced. My heart raced each time I stole glances at Alpha Rysn. He’d come for me… I didn’t even have to call him, he knew something had been wrong with me.

“You came,” I muttered beneath my breath, causing his eyes to glance in my direction.

“I always would for you, Scarlett. You are my mate after all.” His response was curt, meaningful, but my chest ached. Once again I felt it. The strange spark ignited in me, that same warm sensation that had my belly tying in knots… Did he ever feel it too? Whatever bond we were forming had me growing attached to him-and way too fast than I’d expected.

Swallowing thickly, I dropped my gaze away from his. The rest of the drive back to Alpha Rysn’s house was silent. The rain had stopped. He’d helped himself out while I steadied the wheelchair for him.

A loud whimper eased out my lips as I sprained my ankle, yanking the heels off my feet.

“You are bleeding!” Alpha Rysn called, urgency evident in his tone as he spoke.

“It’s nothing much,” I responded, ashamed at how much trouble I’d caused him. I felt Beta Derek’s heated gaze on me, but I hadn’t cowered, knowing it would only make things worse.

“You are my mate, Scarlett. Do not make me say this again… but anything that happens to my mate is never *nothing.* Say that once again and you wouldn’t like the outcome, fintit. My mate. *Mine.* I marked you, Scarlett… you are everything.”

More tears welled up in my eyes at his soothing words as I blinked them away. He yanked my arms, causing me to tumble over into his lap.

“Stay…” he ordered with a low groan as I’d attempted to move, sending a thrilling chill through my body. My arms clung around his neck as he wheeled me inside toward our room.

“You can have your bath, I’ll do the same. Then come, I’ll help with the wound.” He ordered again in a dismissive tone. Nodding, I stalked gently into the bathroom, sliding the door shut behind me. Turning the tap on, I burst into tears… Why was he making me feel so many things…

I shouldn’t feel this way. He was an Alpha. I remained an omega. This was a plan. A deal of some sort. It wasn’t real… yet each time he touched me, my world purred in response. Each time his fingers stroked my cheeks fondly, my body curled up. Each word, each glance from him made me want *more.*

Reluctantly, I’d settled for a warm bath before walking back out. His back was turned to me. He sat on the edge of the bed, granting me enough moment to wriggle into my clothes.

“Come, Scarlett.”

The same zap of electricity jolted down my spine. His orders, tidy, were precise and thrilling and always had the same effect on me… I moved hastily toward him.

“You’ll hurt your feet if you keep walking that fast. But easy…” he whispered gently, a warning edge to his tone as I obliged with his orders.

“No, up on the bed.” He ordered again, trailing off at the end of his words to reach for an ointment. Pulling myself up as he’d instructed, I waited, watching his slow and measured movements as he reached for my feet.

Everywhere he touched burned… in a good way… it sparked. Tingled in every possible way that made me want more. His touch lingered around my ankles as he rubbed the ointment in, before gliding his eyes slowly back to mine.

“Will you ever be ashamed of me? If I’d done something… in the past?” I blurted out the question faster than I ought to. He raised his eyes to lock with mine as tension stilled in the room.

His touch became feathery. Playful, even, as he rubbed gently on my ankles and a little up around my legs. But I didn’t hate it-I watched him.

“No. You are my mate. Whatever past you have, I don’t care about, Scarlett,” he whispered. Before stopping his touch, he reached forward, leaning closer to me. My breath hitched as his face was merely an inch away, and I felt his warm breath brush against my skin.

“The only problem I will have with you, Scarlett… is if you ever hurt yourself again… I do not want to see you in the rain, neither do I want to see those tears ruining those eyes of yours… and no scars on your body either… I want what’s mine to be safe… you are mine, Scarlett, youwill be protected… and no, I don’t care about your past…”

Scarlett’S POV.

I’d slept off, in between whatever foot massage it was Alpha Ryan had offered me. He’d asked that I relax, and I found myself doing just that. It wasn’t a surprise when I had woken to another day on an empty bed, except he had the ointment and my drugs placed by the side for me.

A broad smile stretched on my face as I made my way down the stairs feeling happy. Whatever reassurance I needed from Alpha Ryan, I’d gotten them last night. He wanted me. Maybe not as much as the bond I felt for him, but it was growing, and I’d seen the yearning in his eyes. I knew he felt just the same way I did.

“Mrs. Hamilton?” Beta Derek called with a curt bow and a wave, gesturing that I approach him.

“Alpha Ryan had asked that I took you to work… and no, he left earlier. I’d returned to drop you off,” Beta Derek explained, holding out the door for me. I whispered a few words of gratitude before tucking myself into the seat.

The drive had been silent. I’d bid him farewell and offered my thanks to Alpha Ryan as well before pushing past the doors to my cubicle, and then there it was, that nerve-wrenching feeling that made my wolf snarl.

Bryan. He walked right out of his office, eyes lingering on mine with a knowing smirk and an awful grin that made me reel from annoyance before he turned away back for his room.

Fuming inwardly from anger, I sank right back into my seat when Zoey leaned closer to me, squealing with excitement.

“The merge is happening! Our office has been chosen to be the one representing the merge with the Fierce Claw Pack!” she screamed, and for the first time, I’d exhaled, smiling wider too.

Not because I cared about the merge-of course not-but because finally, for a few days, Bryan would be out of my hair. In some other pack, busy with work, while I’d give myself just enough time to wrap my mind around what had happened back at home in the Bluestone Pack, and the offer he’d made in such degrading terms.

“And guess what, Scarlett? You will be the assistant during this trip! You’ll be leaving for the Fierce Claw Pack with our boss… with our sexy-as-hell boss… he’s an Alpha. Oh… Moon Goddess knows I’ll do anything to be with you.” Zoey screamed, squeezing me into a tight hug that had me suffocating and spiraling.

“I… I’ll what?” I questioned, but Zoey was either too busy wishing she was the one with the, according to her, hot and sexy Bryan, or she was way too happy for me not to have noticed the fact that I was drowning.

“Who… who told you this? There must be a mistake,” I asked, my voice croaking and thinning out at the end from frustration.

“Tom announced it earlier, said Bryan had chosen you himself.”
