Hailing a cab, I settled into the seat as he drove me home. I paid the fare, alighted, and made my way toward my house. There it was.

The box Ryan’s secretary had given me. The keys to his house sitting proudly in it. I twirled the keys around my fingers.

Ryan wanted me there. I was an omega, yet he didn’t seem to mind. He wasn’t too caring, neither was he cold about it.

I raked my fingers through my hair when my eyes caught the time. I needed to start packing now. Ryan would be home any minute.

He’d done nothing but remain kind to me, and I’d hate for him to think I had begun to disobey his orders – as Alpha and as a person who owned me now through the mark.

This was for the best. My rent was about to expire anyway. Staying with him shouldn’t be that hard. Even if it meant sharing rooms, I could handle just that.

The next hour was spent shoving everything of utmost importance into the boxes, one after the other, until I figured that was all I had. I headed out toward the door, clutching Ryan’s keys in my purse before hailing another cab headed for his place.

Climbing down from the car, I was struck by awe. It looked beautiful. Simple, but elegant. My eyes wandered the grounds from the gates for a brief moment, and I was stunned to see that unlike every other Alpha, Ryan’s house barely had any servants loitering around.

Using the keys, I helped myself through the gates, my eyes scanning the grounds when two couples made their way toward me.

“Mrs. Scarlett?” the woman asked. I’d seen the mark on her neck, and that of the man. They were mated.

“Yes?” I responded, with a brief smile.

“Well, we’ve been expecting you. The Alpha had informed us. Come in… let’s show you around and help you into the house,” they offered.

Then they proceeded to explain – Ryan loved his personal space, barely had any visitors or servants, and they’d been the only ones living with him.

They left with their goodbyes as soon as I made it to the main house. Shoving the door open, I glanced awkwardly around at what would be my new home.

No pictures, no artwork… for someone as wealthy as Alpha Ryan, he sure did live a classic life with no extravagance of any sort.

Swiftly, I had my clothes tucked in place. Every other necessity arranged. Then at the very last minute, I realized how damp and sweaty I was.

Stripping off my clothes, I headed for the shower to get a bath. After minutes of scrubbing, I turned off the shower to dry off – only for my mind to freeze and my body to turn rigid. I’d forgotten the bloody towel.

Mumbling beneath my breath, I made my way past the bathroom doors toward the room. My eyes caught sight of the towel hanging by the edge of the bed. I walked toward it, reaching for it – only for the door to open ajar.

Time paused. Everything stopped as my eyes locked with Alpha Ryan’s. His gaze darkened instantly, his eyes holding surprise… and lust in them. He swallowed thickly before averting his gaze from mine hastily.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know. I’m… sorry,” I mumbled, turning swiftly after grabbing the towel to run for the bathroom.

My feet caught on the trails of water I’d left. My body tilted backward as I slipped, causing me to fall with a loud gasp-

“Scarlett!” Alpha Ryan’s voice echoed in the room as he wheeled himself forward just in time to catch me.

My body slumped into his knees, my face against his chest, my boobs pressing hard against him, the rest of my bare body on display – my arms wrapped around his neck for support.

I fell naked. On his lap.

Scarlett’S POV

I shot to my feet immediately, avoiding eye contact with Alpha Ryan as I bolted toward the bathroom door, slamming it hard. My head banged against the door, my back resting against it as my heart hammered in my chest.

Something happened now-just now. It felt strange, different. I’d felt a chill down my spine as a tingle ran across my nerves… like a spark had been ignited in me when our bodies touched. And I’d seen the dark, yearning look in his eyes.

He was an alpha, after all. His body had reacted to my touch-and so did mine. It felt as though he fit perfectly, like a missing piece of mine. Swallowing thickly, I brushed the fallen strands of hair from my face.

My colleagues at work were wrong. I’d almost believed their nonsense and rambling. Perhaps he was crippled, but he had no trouble handling his masculine needs, I guess. I’d seen how he looked at me and how his body reacted. He certainly was still able to have children.

More still, I touched him, felt his body go numb and yet hot under my palms… He was fit in every way. Of course he was-he was an alpha!

A knock settled on the door, jolting me out of my thoughts on cue. A startled gasp escaped my lips before I braced myself back.

“Scarlett?” Alpha Ryan’s voice called for me. Once again, my heart picked up its pace, beating faster against my chest. Why was he here? What could he possibly want?

Did he perhaps misunderstand me? Think I’d walked out on purpose? Did he…

“You dropped something, Scarlett,” he spoke again. His tone was gentle, not harsh. He sounded calm, unlike me who’d been rambling mentally. Pushing the door open gently, I peered out through the edged space.

“This. You wanted to pick this, didn’t you?” Alpha Ryan questioned again with a faint smile. I scoffed the towel from his hands and slammed the door shut again.

“Thank you!” I called out from behind the door. He hadn’t said anything else, but I heard a faint laughter from the room, causing my cheeks to go red from embarrassment.

But at least he didn’t think I’d wanted to put on a strip show for him… He knew I wanted the towel. It was no use beating myself up anymore. But I still couldn’t walk out after such a heated yet awkward moment.

I stalled for a few more minutes-lost count of time to be honest. I waited, then pushed the door open gently before walking out.

Alpha Ryan was in bed, a laptop placed on his legs as his fingers flexed with practiced precision over the keyboard. He seemed so engrossed in his work he hadn’t noticed my presence in the room.

My eyes wandered from his well-refined, veiny palms and long fingers as they danced on the keyboard, to the manner in which his arms moved, his body, those long legs. He looked breathtakingly gorgeous.

Not in my biggest dream had I ever expected I’d be marked by Alpha Ryan… the owner of the Ryhams Group, one of the coldest but wealthiest and most powerful alphas.

Yet here I was, ogling shamelessly at him.

“Seen enough yet?” Alpha Ryan’s voice called out, sending a jolt of shock running down my spine.

“I… I… I was… the…” I stuttered, going every shade of red. He’d seen me. I’d been caught staring like some freak. A grin curled up the sides of his lips, even then he didn’t peel his eyes off the laptop.

“It’s fine… you don’t have to be weird about it, Scarlett. I was merely teasing. You can change though. I won’t look,” he whispered softly, a playfulness attached to his tone.

I moved slowly toward his back before peeling the towel off my body in record time and putting on my own sleeping pajamas. For a moment, I stood still, naked, silently feeling the room.

This was it.

I’d share the bed with him. Was he thinking of… sex? I mean, he did mark me, and I belonged to him, but… was he really interested in sleeping with me? Would I make things more awkward? I shoved the ring on my finger into the drawer, along with the one I’d gotten for him-realizing how cheap it would look on him.

I’d done enough embarrassing things today. Giving him those cheap-ass rings would only make things worse. I hadn’t expected him to turn out as the owner of Ryham Group, and I’d been too worried about not draining his wealth. But now, looking at the man before me…
