When it was done, Vanessa stepped back, her hand instinctively brushing over the mark in her neck.

She could feel it clearly now.

The bond was stronger.

Heavier.

More binding than before.

There was no turning back.

Rafe watched her closely.

“Good,” he said.

His tone was satisfied-but cold.

“Now remember what you will tell them.”

He straightened slightly.

“You will say that we couldn’t resist the bond.”

“That the pull was too strong.”

“And that we chose to accept each other.”

Vanessa nodded stiffly.

“Yes.

She took a breath, steadying herself.

Then turned toward the door.

“Let’s get this over with.”

As she reached for the handle, Rafe’s voice stopped her one last time.

“And Vanessa…”

She paused but didn’t turn around.

“Don’t forget,” he said quietly.

“This only works… if you play your part perfectly.”

Vanessa’s grip tightened on the door handle.

“I know.”

Then she opened the door-

And stepped out to face her parents, carrying a lie that would bind all of them to something far more dangerous than any of them realized.

Rafe remained lying in his bed in the quiet room for a moment after Vanessa left, the door clicking shut behind her.

Silence followed.

But not for long.

Inside his mind, his wolf stirred-restless, uneasy.

“You are using our mate.”

The accusation came sharp.

Rafe’s jaw tightened slightly.

“The same way she is using us,” he replied coldly.

There was no hesitation in his voice.

No guilt.

No remorse.

His wolf growled low, dissatisfied.

That is not how this should be.”

Rafe let out a quiet scoff.

“This isn’t about what should be,” he said. “This is about what is.”

He looked toward the window, glancing outside at the unfamiliar territory of Stone Claw Pack.

“The only difference,” he continued, “is that she is far more useful to us than we are to her.”

His lips curled slightly.

“Our mate is delusional if she thinks Talon will ever choose her.”

His wolf fell silent for a moment.

Even it seemed to understand that truth.

Rafe leaned his shoulder against the bed, arms crossing as his mind worked.

“Vanessa brings value to this arrangement,” he went on, his tone now thoughtful-strategic.

“She gives us access.”

His eyes darkened.

“A way to get close to Diana.”

A flicker of anger passed through him at the thought of her name.

“A way to enter the Royal Pack without raising suspicion.”

His mind began to map it out.

“Once we carry the scent of Stone Claw…” he muttered, “no one will question our presence.”

He tapped his fingers lightly against his arm.

“No one will recognize us.”

His gaze sharpened.

“We can move freely.”

A slow, dangerous smile formed.

“As long as we keep our face hidden when needed…”

His wolf shifted again, uneasy.

“This is dangerous.”

Rafe huffed.

“Everything worth doing is dangerous.”

He straightened slightly.

“And that’s not even the best part.”

His voice lowered.

“Think about it.”

He looked back toward the door Vanessa had exited through:

“She is their only heir.”

A pause.

“What happens if something. unfortunate happens to Alpha Charles and Luna Carla?”

His wolf growled again.

But Rafe ignored it.

“Who becomes the next Alpha?”

His eyes gleamed.

“Vanessa.”

His smirk deepened.

“And who will stand beside her?”

The answer was obvious.

Him.

“And if something happen to her… This is our opportunity,” Rafe said quietly.

“Not just for revenge…”

His voice turned colder.

“But for power.”

His wolf hesitated.

“You are planning too far ahead.”

Rafe shook his head slightly.

“No,” he said.

“I’m planning exactly as far as I need to.”

He pushed himself off the bed and sat himself, his movements slow and controlled.

“We just need patience.”

His gaze hardened.

“And precision.”

A dangerous calm settled over him.

“We will use Vanessa.”

His voice dropped to a whisper.

“For everything she’s worth.”

Then he added quietly-

“And when the time comes….

His eyes darkened with ruthless intent.

“We will decide whether she is still useful to us.”

Back in Black Howler Pack, the next day unfolded with a different kind of tension.

Diana, Willow, and Leah had planned to go out to town together-a simple girls’ day meant to ease the atmosphere and help Leah settle more comfortably into the pack.

But the moment breakfast began…

Everything felt just a little off.

It started when Enzo walked into the dining hall with Leah beside him.

Diana, Talon, and Willow were already seated at their usual table when Enzo approached.

“Alpha. Luna,” Leah greeted respectfully, lowering her head slightly.

Diana gave her a warm nod.

“Leah.”

Leah hesitated for a moment before speaking again.

“Luna… I-“

She took a breath.

“I want to apologize again for what my parents-“

Diana gently raised her hand, stopping her mid-sentence.

“Leah,” she said softly but firmly, “we will never move forward if every time we see each other, you-or your parents-feel the need to apologize.”

Leah froze slightly.

Diana’s voice remained calm.

“As I’ve said before, there is nothing for them to apologize for.”
