“Don’t get cocky. I’ll let them go… on one condition.” Benjamin stared at Liam fiercely, then sneered, “My daughter’s willing to give up her life for you. It’s obvious that she loves you very much, so I want you to promise to stay and marry her. If not, all of you can’t leave the fort.”
Hearing that, Amber’s face turned red and she protested, “Dad, you… Don’t be like this. A
marriage will only be happy if both parties love each other. You can’t force people to marry like this!”
Benjamin ignored Amber and stared at Liam intently. “What do you think? Are you willing to marry my daughter?”

“They won’t be happy, but it will satisfy my daughter. Thus, it’s necessary.” Benjamin looked at Liam and looked pleased. “Let’s forget about what happened. I like this kid, and I’ll be happy if he can be my son-in-law even if he can’t be my son. A wife in exchange for two lives—it’s a good bargain. If you’re still unwilling, don’t blame me for being inconsiderate.”
Liam glanced at Joanne, whose lips had turned pale. He then urged Flossie, “Boss, don’t oppose him. Hurry up and leave with Joanne. It’ll be too late if you don’t rush her to a hospital for immediate treatment. We’ll lose our choices by then.”
“No, I can’t leave you here alone. We must leave or die together!”
“There’s no need for such unnecessary loyalty. I just need to stay and be his son-in-law, which isn’t a bad option. What’s more, Amber is a charming young woman; it’s not a loss for me if I marry her. If you don’t go, Benjamin may regain his wits and go back on his word,”
Liam said softly, trying to urge Flossie to leave.

“You…” For a moment, Flossie did not know how to argue. Liam was giving up his future and love life, but he sounded like he had won the lottery. Liam always pretended to be optimistic so she didn’t worry.
He would then suffer the sadness and grief alone.
Flossie felt that she had wronged Liam deeply. He was always the one sacrificing for her, and she just sat back and enjoyed it.

Joanne was placed on a stretcher and pushed into a surgery room quickly.
“Doctor, please save her. You have to save her!” Flossie begged pitifully as she followed them. They had gone through so much to save Joanne, and Liam had even been forced into a marriage; she did not want all their sacrifices to go to waste.
“Well try our best,” the doctor said solemnly, and then the door to the surgery room was closed.
Exhausted and dejected, Flossie sat down on a chair in the waiting area. Helplessness overwhelmed her, and she stared at the floor absently. She wanted to sleep in a nice, warm bed or rest her head on someone’s shoulder.
At that moment, she saw a pair of long legs striding aloofly towards her.
The crisp suit set off the slimness of the man’s legs, and it was clear that the person was tall and attractive.
Flossie raised her head and met the man’s cold gaze. Her eyes were filled with tears, so her vision was slightly blurred. Her eyes widened, and she wondered if she was hallucinating.
“Halston, what… are you doing here?” Flossie rubbed her eyes in disbelief. After all the challenges she had faced recently, seeing a familiar face amidst her helplessness was heartwarming.
“To talk business,” Halston sneered condescendingly as he slid his hands into his pockets.
“What kind of business do you have to talk about at the hospital? You must be stalking me!’
“If you think I’m stalking you… then I must be stalking you.” Halston looked at the emergency room and asked, “How is she?”
“You know who’s in there?”
“Of course. It’s Joanne.” Halston raised his eyebrows sarcastically. “You and that silly man from the Osborne family tried to stand against Benjamin’s fort. You both sure are overconfident. Do you know how powerful they are in Goldshire?”
“If they weren’t powerful, I wouldn’t have gone there. They’re really quite cruel.” When
Flossie recalled her experience there, her blood ran cold.
They were savage, cruel, and lawless.
“I’ve worked with them before-they’re even more ruthless than your brother. Were you courting death?” Halston scoffed. If he hadn’t investigated Flossie and Liam’s whereabouts before he contacted Benjamin, the results would have been unimaginable.
Realisation dawned on Flossie. After staring at Halston for a while, she said icily, “You must have said the right thing since Benjamin let Joanne and me go without much of a fight.”
“You’re overthinking. I just told him that I didn’t want to see my partner get his hands dirty.
Surprisingly, Benjamin let you go. You guys must be pretty lucky.”
“Hmph, I know that you’re not that kind.” Flossie looked away and ignored him. She glanced at the flickering lamp of the surgery room and recalled Joanne’s final wish. Feeling angry, she turned to Halston and glared at him fiercely. “You scumbag!”
He stared at her incredulously. “What did I do to you now?”
“It’s not about what you did to me, it’s about what you did to Joanne! You tricked her and manipulated her. You even watched her fall into the sea but didn’t save her. Calling you a scumbag is putting it lightly!”
Flossie’s eyes turned watery, and she fought back tears. “Do you know how loyal she was towards you? She knew she was about to be killed, but her final wish was to meet you one last time. A scumbag like you doesn’t deserve her loyalty!”
Halston’s gaze was indifferent as he said cryptically, “You’re not Joanne, so you don’t understand her thoughts. Things aren’t as they seem. She might be pitiful, but your crazy brother isn’t normal either. He deserves what he gets.”
“How dare you!” Flossie snapped furiously. “Yes, of course you’re the victim in this. You’re the most innocent man. How could you be so arrogant?

“No.” His answer was direct and blunt.
“That’s what I thought. Joanne is silly to yearn for a cruel and heartless liar like you…”
Flossie sneered, feeling strangely disappointed.
Suddenly, the door to the surgery room opened. The doctor’s gloves were covered in blood, and he said urgently, “Her condition has worsened, and she’s suffering from blood loss. She needs blood, but our blood bank is insufficient. We need a blood donation. Who among you has type 0 blood?”
