“I know it’s hard, Calvin, for you to accept this, but you need to understand that you may never get her back. It’s likely you’ll at some point be acknowledged as the twins’ father, but Marilyn, without Marrin’s memories, is unlikely to ever trust you.”

“I can work on it.”

Calvin sighed.

“I want to work on building trust.”

“I’m certain you do, but I don’t know if she will be, to be honest. I had gotten her to the point where she was willing to acknowledge you as the boy’s father, and she was willingly going to give me a picture of them too, for when I was ready to show them to you. When you’d calmed down from your obsession.

“I had promised Marilyn and her lawyer I would not tell you about the twins being yours, until you could be seen to have let your obsession go. That is what she called me a liar about, because just two weeks after the

DNA results were in, your own name and company were suddenly appearing at the boys’ school, showed her I lied about not telling you.”

“But you didn’t tell me,”

Calvin muttered.

“I’m aware of that, and so is her lawyer. Liam believes you illegally obtained that information, which you did. That’s the real issue for you now. Marilyn isn’t going to just state she’ll not press charges because you’re the twins’ father or there is proof she was Marrin, because she’s now of the opinion you’re abusive and cruel, so you can stop thinking that, that will save you. It’s not going to, because Marilyn is not actually Marrin.”

He held up a hand to stop Calvin’s retort,

“Marilyn is Marrin’s alter ego, so to speak. She has lived a very different life with no memories of being Marrin. So, regardless of DNA results, that proves she was once Marrin, because the boys are yours and hers. Marrin does not in fact exist for her at all. That is what you need to understand Calvin, and come to terms with.”

He watched Calvin huff now and slowly nod his head.

“I am trying to do just that, it’s not so easy ignoring the obsession. I understand it’s all my fault Wil, but for so long I’ve been living with it. Now, even though I know the truth, and I want to go there to her, to the boys. I am denying that with all I have.

“I have managed not to go there and to stay away from her. I am in fact trying to show her I’m not a monster. It’s not something that will just go away overnight, but I am actively trying to let it go, doing my best to let it go. I want to let it go completely.

“I don’t want to hurt her, and I want them back in my life. I’m trying to do it the right way. I guess seeing the boys, it got the better of me once more.”

Calvin sighed heavily.

“I will do better.”

Marilyn

She sat across from her neurosurgeon and could now answer a few of his questions, not about her life as Marrin, but that she had one memory of being Marrin. She had told him it was of her saying goodbye to her now ex??usband. That she recalled who he was and that they were divorced, and had gone their separate ways. Where it had been, at an airport.

She told him about those weird moments in her life where she kind of just zoned out and, when she came back to herself, that she had done something that she had no recollection of, explained that to him; she believed it was something Marrin could do. Told him Marrin, the woman she’d once been, had been a computer programmer in the gaming industry.

He’d nodded at her thoughtfully,

“It could happen. The triggering event to unlocking your memories, appears to be your ex??usband.”

She could only agree with him.

“You should probably see if he’s open to spending some time with you,”

he stated.

“Hmm, I don’t know about that, he’s the man that put me in the hospital.”

Marilyn sighed now.

“Oh, perhaps not then.”

He’d frowned.

“Maybe someone in your old social circle then perhaps… he’d paused in thought.

“The twins?”

he’d asked after a moment.

“Are they your ex’s?”

“Yes,”

she nodded.

“I don’t know if I knew or not before that accident,”

she shook her head.

“I can only hope not, considering how he reacts to my presence, angry and aggressive all the time.”

“Right… only time will tell Marilyn,”

he nodded.

“It’s possible you’ll get them all back or just some of them. The brain is still a mystery even to us that specialise in it. How’s your dizziness?”

“Still there, black sunglasses help when going outside and standing before the open door for 30 seconds in the shade helps when going inside from outside, lessens the effects, and sometimes I don’t get dizzy at all.”

“Your concentration?”

“The same, I can work relatively unhindered, just the occasional zoning out since that first memory came back to me.”

she nodded.

“Nausea?”

“Gone, haven’t had that in weeks now,”
