“Please. Please. Korine, fight.” Araiya sobbed as she tugged and yanked on her chain, but the hook wasn’t budging. She released the chain and just yanked at her wrist, maybe if she used the blood it would help her slip out of the cuff around her wrist.

Korine whispered a final time. “I love you Yaya, be strong.” Then there was silence. Araiya screamed and pulled. She dug her feet in and pulled, there was pain, but pain had become background noise. Her vision had narrowed down to the woman on the ground at her feet.

The woman who she had treated like dirt these past years. The girl who had unknowingly been her protector for over ten years, and who her ungrateful self had put down, and belittled. The girl who had taken everyone’s venom and pretended it didn’t matter because she knew she was protecting Araiya.

Her best friend, her secret protector.

Korine gave a final shudder, heaved a great sigh, and stopped breathing.

Araiya lost herself in the moment. She gave one final hard tug and the world turned to flame.

Where is she?

River linked everyone.

I don’t know but something is really wrong.

Talon countered.

Mac flew a little higher.

I can’t see anything, but she should be around here. She should be right here.

Mac, you’re the stand in elemental for Fire, right?

Yes.

My mother says she’s been trying to speak with you, apparently all of the Elementals have been trying to reach out, but you’re closed off.

Terran smacked Mac with his tail.

What?

The Elementals speak to each other. They have to be able to speak to Keep the balance, Mac.

River sent in a tendril of his power into Mac by touching his tail to his snout.

Mac felt a big bang inside, and realized that he had closed himself off from everyone. He could link them, but his powers were locked down so tight. He was so worried that he was going to burn out with Araiya’s power, he didn’t want to hurt any of his clutch. When he cracked the door inside, he was bombarded by voices. Some in pain, some soft, and then there was the screaming Elementals.

What do you think you’re doing boy? You are killing your clutch by closing yourself off.

Airyn?

Yes, you fool, we have been funneling power to your younglings, but we don’t have the right power. You are now the elemental; you need to balance. You can’t close yourself off, because in your worry of hurting your clutch, you’re hurting them.

Calm Airyn, he did not know. He has the young mother’s ember, and a tiny piece of the Goddess soul seed inside of him. He must have been burning up, isn’t that right, Fireling?

Earywyn?

Yes, young one, we will guide you.

Guide me?

To the young mother.

Warryn?

Yes, my dear boy, I know you are overwhelmed but she is losing herself, she needs you.

We don’t know where she is.

Give us access to your lands you fool. Her feet will be on the earth, her cries on the wind. Water will help balance you. We support each other, help each other. Just like you and our sons. We are your family, and we love you. Idiot!

You can have any access you need if you can find her.

Then open yourself, son. Open fully and we will help.
