Kyla finished undergoing the tests with the nurse’s help and got into the car with Martin Weiss.
However, neither of them spoke on the way back.
Martin Weiss’s car arrived in front of the store. Mrs. Corbyn asked as soon as she saw that her daughter was back, “What took you so long? You’ve been gone the entire day. How was the pregnancy check-up? Are you okay?”
“Yes, Mom,” Kyla said with her usual smile.
“Okay? Are you going to hide it?” asked Martin Weiss. Then, he told Mrs. Corbyn what had happened at the hospital.
Mrs. Corbyn instantly became deeply worried. “Is there any danger? Then… Then what should we do?”
Martin Weiss said, “Mom, please advise Kyla not to have the baby. Her health is important. If she wants to have another baby, then… Then I can adopt a baby with her. Anything else is possible but this. I just don’t want anything to happen to her again.”
Mrs. Corbyn ignored that Martin Weiss kept calling her ‘Mom’. She looked at her daughter nervously and said, “Martin has a point. Why don’t you give up this baby…”
“Mom, it’s too early to make such a snap decision before the doctor’s consultation. I’ll regret it for the rest of my life if I kill this baby prematurely when I had the chance to bring them into the world.” Kyla looked at her mother and said, “Mom, you don’t want me to regret it for the rest of my life, do you?”
Mrs. Corbyn could only sigh heavily.
Martin Weiss said, “What if the situation still isn’t optimistic after the consultation? Are you still going to have the baby?”
“Then let’s see how bad it is!” replied Kyla.
Martin Weiss was instantly overwhelmed with regret.
Martin Weiss rarely did anything he regretted.
If treating Kyla like that back then was one of the things he regretted, then knocking her up after getting drunk was another thing he regretted.
If he had known she would get into such danger after getting pregnant, he would never have knocked her up. He even… tried to stop her when she tried to abort the baby!
Martin Weiss just wanted to slap himself hard, and he did!
Grace saw slap marks on Martin Weiss’s face when she saw him.
“Did Kyla do that?” asked Grace. After all, in her opinion, only Kyla would be able to leave slap marks like that on Martin Weiss’s face.
“I did it myself,” said Martin Weiss.
Grace was at a loss for words all of a sudden.
Martin Weiss said, “I came to see you today because I need your help with something. If you’re willing to help me, I’ll effort to help you or the Reed family whenever you need me in spare no the future! Take it as though I’ll owe you a big favor. What do you think?”
It was rare for the head of the Weiss family to say such a thing.
Grace frowned. “If you want me to help you with something related to Kyla, then I’m afraid I can’t help much.” She thought he wanted her to help him put in a good word to Kyla and bring him and Kyla back together.
“Whether you can help or not, I want you to try. You don’t want anything to happen to Kyla either, do you?”
“What?” Grace was taken aback. “What’s going on?”
Martin Weiss told Grace about the hospital’s diagnosis and said, “You’re her friend. Whatever I say doesn’t work on her, but maybe she’ll listen to you. Please advise her to give up the baby. If her body can’t take it in the third trimester…”
He could hardly imagine it.
Grace’s face became serious at this. She pondered for a moment and said, “Okay, I’ll find time to persuade Kyla, but I can’t guarantee that I’ll succeed.”
“As long as you’ll try to persuade her!” Martin Weiss said gratefully.
Grace told Jason about it at night. “I’m planning to go look for Kyla tomorrow to talk about this.”
“Are you going to persuade her to give up the baby?” asked Jason. He was able to understand what Martin Weiss was feeling. It was just like when Grace was pregnant with the triplets and the doctor said that it was necessary to have a pregnancy reduction to keep the mother and babies safe. However, Grace still insisted on not having the pregnancy reduction.
They even argued over it for a while.
“I hope Kyla will be safe, but I also understand how hard it is for a mother to give up her children,” said Grace, who also narrowly escaped death to give birth to the triplets.
Jason murmured, “But have you ever thought about what will happen to the man who loves you if you give up your own life to keep your children? Just like how you would risk your life for the children, I would risk their lives for yours.”
Grace blinked her eyes as if she was surprised.
“What’s the matter? Do you think I’m not a good father?” he asked.
“Not… really. I know it’s because you love me very much, but…” She hesitated and said sternly, “If the children and I are ever in danger, I’d still want you to save the children.”
As a mother, she was willing to sacrifice herself, including her life, for her children.
He stared at her quietly, his eyes glimmering slightly. Then, he said slowly, “Okay.”
That one word was worth a thousand words. If that ever happened, he would save the children as she wanted, and then he would die with her.
He would live if she lived; if she died, he would die too!
Grace seemed to understand the meaning behind Jason’s answer instantly. Her eyes were instantly covered with tears. “You…” She sobbed, unable to speak. Was she going to call him foolish, stupid, or stubborn?
However, it was only because he loved her so much!
He loved her the most in the world!
“Jay, thank you for loving me so much,” she said as she stood on tiptoes and kissed him on the lips.
He responded to her kiss.
He loved her. However, this lifetime was not enough. He hoped there was a next life. In the next life, he would love her more, take care of her carefully, and not let her suffer any harm.
Grace came to Kyla’s store the next day and found that Lina was also there. However, Lina only came to chat with Kyla.
After all, Lina only stayed at home and took good care of the baby in her belly these days. She had stopped working. All she did was eat and sleep or watch TV shows. She was extremely bored.
Lina smiled when she saw that Grace was here. “What a coincidence. We three are all here. If we have one more person, we can play mahjong. But if our kids get together, we can have more than one mahjong table. When they find their other halves, we can have three tables.”
Kyla was amused by what Lina said. “Why do you keep thinking about mahjong? What’s the matter? Do you want to play mahjong?”
“A little. Let’s play mahjong after I deliver my baby!” said Lina. Then, she looked at Kyla’s belly. “Kyla, where do you plan to register your baby’s obstetric record? Do you want to go to the hospital I’m going to? I have a good doctor.”
“No thanks. I… A specialist from Municipal Women’s Hospital is overseeing my pregnancy,” said Kyla after hesitating a little.
Lina did not overthink it, but Grace said, “Kyla, Martin Weiss came to look for me yesterday.”
Kyla paused and looked at Grace.
“Martin Weiss asked me to persuade you to give up the baby. He said that it’s too risky for you to have this baby as it’ll affect your own safety. I want to hear from you whether he’s telling the truth,” asked Grace.
Lina said with shock, “What? It’s dangerous for Kyla to have the baby? What’s going on here? Is it because she’s pregnant at an older age? But aren’t there a lot of people who gave birth in their 40s?”
