Martin Weiss looked blankly at Kyla and said hoarsely, “So do you think… I’m just deceiving myself that I love you?”

“Back when we were together, you didn’t really fall in love with me. You were willing to trust Paisley Daniels instead.

Did you fall in love with me during the many years we were apart, then?” Her nonchalance seemed to be taunting him.

With that said, Kyla yanked her arm back forcefully and turned around to leave.

Martin Weiss was still standing there in a trance. He felt a hint of bitterness in his mouth. It turned out she did not believe he loved her at all!

Maybe she stopped believing when he testified against her in court?

However, could he accept it? Could he accept having things remain the same until their divorce? No! He would not accept it!

Martin Weiss quickly ran in front of Kyla, stopped her, and said, “Kyla, I know it’s hard for you to trust me again after all that I’ve done. I do feel guilty and regretful to you. But I didn’t fall in love with you because of this. I’ve loved you from the beginning.”

very Kyla only looked at him silently. Though he spoke lovingly, nothing stirred in her heart.

Martin Weiss’s mouth filled with bitterness, and he finally said something he had never told her before. “You know what? It was… love at first sight.”

Yes. When he first met her, he felt as if something had struck him as she stood there and smiled.

However, when he first approached her, he knew she was the target of his revenge and the daughter of his enemy.

Hence, the more he loved her, the more he kept repressing hisfeelings.

“It doesn’t matter now whether it was love at first sight,” Kyla said flatly.

“I just want you to know that I fell in love with you from the very beginning,” said Martin Weiss.

“That only proves that that’s all to your love,” she said and walked past Martin Weiss again, intending to head for the bus stop.

Martin Weiss yanked Kyla. “I’ll take you home.”

“No thanks. I can do it myself”

He interrupted her and said, “Are you going to take the bus? There are a lot of people at the bus stop here. You’re a pregnant woman. Will you get on a crowded bus? Aren’t you worried that you’ll throw up? Since we’re husband and wife now, isn’t it a matter of fact that I take you home?”

“We only got the marriage license for the children. We’re not husband and wife at all. Martin Weiss, you’re not going back on your word, are you?” Kyla said nervously.

He stared at her. “Do you think I’m the kind of person who goes back on their word?”

She froze.

He muttered, “You only got the marriage license with me for the sake of the children, so I’m not your husband to you, but… Kyla, you know what? To me, you’re my wife, my one and only wife.”

Kyla froze and looked somewhat blankly at the person in front of her. His voice was low and somewhat hoarse.

Martin Weiss’s words somehow made her heart clench a little, causing a small pang of pain.

His voice continued to ring in her ears. “Also, if you really want a divorce one day, I’ll do it as long as you ask. You don’t have to worry that you’ll be stuck in this marriage forever.”

Even though… he really wished that marriage could bind her and keep her with him..

While Kyla was in a trance, Martin Weiss had taken her to the car. He put her in the front passenger seat and bent over to fasten her seat belt carefully.

“Ah!” She snapped back to her senses and saw his magnified face in before her. “You…” She was so caught off guard that her cheeks flushed.

He looked at the blush on her cheeks and seemed to see the old her as he fell into a trance.

His proximity and intimacy had always made her cheeks blush with shyness and joy. He would even deliberately do something just to see her blush.

“Kyla, I’ll make you trust me again one day,” said Martin Weiss before straightening up and returning to the driver’s seat.

He could not be impatient. Since he was the one who broke her trust, he was willing to piece it all back together. No matter how long it took, even if it would take a lifetime, he would do it.

Kyla froze. ‘Should I trust him again? Trust in what? Trust that he actually loves me?

‘But how is that possible?’

She had once trusted him with all her heart, and she ended up in jail.

She never wanted to go through that hopelessness again.

‘So let’s keep things as they are. I’ll divorce him after the baby is one year old!’ Kyla looked down at her flat belly and said to herself.

Kyla thought that there would be no more contact between her and Martin Weiss after obtaining the birth permission certificate and they would continue living their separate lives as before.

What she did not expect was that Martin Weiss showed up at the store’s entrance on the day of her pregnancy check-up.

“What are you…” She stared at him.

Martin Weiss said, “Don’t you have a pregnancy check-up today? I’ll accompany you to future check-ups.’

Kyla felt a tingle in her scalp. If he was going to accompany her to her pregnancy check-ups, then he would probably show up at her place several times a month. Perhaps… even more often than that.

“No thanks. I can go to the pregnancy check-ups myself. I don’t need anyone to accompany me,” she said quickly.

Martin Weiss said, “I’m not just accompanying you but also our baby. I didn’t accompany you when you were pregnant with Nelson, so you and Nelson suffered a lot. I don’t want the same thing to happen to this baby. At least let me take my responsibility as a father.”

Kyla was silent.

Martin Weiss went on and said, “Besides, you’re pregnant. In case anything happens, I can help you run errands if I accompany you during the check-ups. Do you wanna run up and down the stairs in the hospital when you have a big belly?”

Mrs. Corbyn, who was looking after the store, also said, “Kyla, why don’t you… let him accompany you to the check-

up? I’ll feel more relieved that way. It’s safer to have someone with you just in case something happens.”

Kyla bit her lip slightly and agreed.

Martin Weiss drove Kyla to the community hospital.

Pregnancy check-ups up before a pregnant woman was 24 weeks along were performed at community hospitals.

However, a grave look came over the face of the community hospital doctor after he got a detailed understanding of Kyla’s past medical history.

“You’ve undergone liver transplantation and recently got past five years of the recovery period. The general pregnancy check-up here might not be suitable for you. You’d better go to a tertiary women’s hospital for further examination,” the community hospital doctor said.

Kyla’s expression froze when she heard that.

It had been five years… since the liver transplant. Even though her condition was under control, would it still impact the baby?

“Okay, got it. Thank you,” said Kyla.

“It’s better to go to Municipal Women’s Hospital. They have the most authoritative and experienced gynecological and obstetrical doctors,” the community hospital doctor said.
