“Your clothes…” Then, her eyes fell on his suit that was stained with her vomit.

“Why did you throw up like that?” he asked in a mutter.

“It’s just morning sickness.”

However, her explanation did not put him at ease. He unbuttoned and removed his vomit-stained suit jacket. He grabbed her toward the car parked by the roadside.

She twisted her wrist as she struggled. “Martin Weiss, where are you taking me?”

“To the hospital!” he said.

15 minutes later, Kyla returned to the consultation room she was in earlier and faced the doctor she met not long ago.

The doctor explained to Martin Weiss that throwing up like that was normal. Only when the mother was throwing up too much and it affected her nutritional absorption did she need drug treatment and intervention.

The doctor said, “We generally don’t recommend medication to stop throwing up during the first trimester of pregnancy.”

“Should I just let her throw up so much, then?” asked Martin Weiss.

The doctor suggested, “She can eat some food that will help with the vomiting, such as prunes, oranges, and so on.

Anything with a slightly sour taste might help pregnant women with the vomiting.”

Kyla sat at the side, thinking of what to do next.

Martin Weiss knew she was pregnant now. Then, in the future…

Just then, a whisper rang in Kyla’s car. “Hey, is this man your husband? Your husband seems so concerned about you. Mine never cared about my morning sickness. You’re lucky.”

‘Lucky? ‘Kyla smiled bitterly.

This woman would not call her lucky if she knew what she had been through.

When Kyla and Martin Weiss left the hospital, Martin Weiss said, “I think we need to find a place to talk.”

She hesitated a little but did not refuse.

After all, they did need to talk through this situation.

“Let’s find a place close by. I don’t want to walk very far,” said Kyla.

Martin Weiss found a private room in a restaurant near the hospital and ordered some desserts. “Your stomach is empty after throwing up so much. Eat something. The doctor said you can eat something light if you have severe morning sickness early in the pregnancy.”

Kyla did not touch her chopsticks but looked at Martin Weiss and said, “You don’t need to do these for me. I’ll handle my pregnancy myself and won’t bother you.”

Martin Weiss instantly turned ghastly pale. “What do you mean you’ll handle it yourself? What do you mean you won’t bother me?”

Kyla took a deep breath. “Everything will go on as usual. Just like what we said before. It was an accident. Let’s pretend nothing happened!”

Martin Weiss suddenly sneered. “So are you going to pretend that the baby in your belly doesn’t exist?”

“I’ll take care of the baby myself,” she said.

“How?” he asked.

Her body shivered when she met his eyes. “How I take care of the baby is my business. It has nothing to do with you!”

“Kyla, how can you say I have nothing to do with this baby? They’re our baby. How could they have nothing to do with me?” said Martin Weiss as his deep eyes were full of pain.

Kyla looked away. Martin Weiss’s eyes made her feel indescribable guilt and panic.

“What am I guilty of? What am I panicking about?’

It was clear that Martin Weiss was responsible for everything that happened from the very beginning, while she was the one who suffered!

Martin Weiss got up, walked around the table, went to Kyla, and knelt. “Kyla, give me a chance to take good care of you and our children, okay? I did nothing when you were pregnant with Nelson, causing you to suffer. Will you let me do what I should do this time?”

Kyla looked down at Martin Weiss in front of her as a complex emotion welled up within her.

“I screamed your name over and over again in prison and wanted to die many times. It was the baby I was carrying that yanked me back from the brink of death and helped me survive…”

She mumbled about everything that had happened, and he unconsciously trembled.

Everything she said was stabbing his heart like the sharpest swords, telling him what pain was.

Unfortunately, this pain had no cure. As time went on, it became the pain of his life.

He did too many bad things in the past that he could not make up for it even now.

Martin Weiss whispered, “I know it’s my fault. It’s my fault! Kyla, I was so wrong. I know I can’t make up for it. I just wish I can treat you well and try my best to do so.

Kyla smiled faintly, even a little nonchalantly.

It was as if someone who used to matter so much to her was nobody now.

“Since Nelson and I have been surviving well without your care, why do we need you to take care of us now?”

Her words instantly made his blood freeze.

Kyla said, “Martin Weiss, can’t you just pretend you never found out about my pregnancy? There are already enough mistakes between us. If we get involved with each other again and again, we’ll just end up hurting others as well as ourselves.”

He looked at her blankly, feeling that the distance between them seemed to be growing further and further apart even though they were so close.

“You’re the heir of the Weiss family and the head of the Weiss family. You can find women who love you. You don’t need to continue harassing me.

“Besides, Martin Weiss, I’m too old now. I’m 35 and no longer a young woman. I can’t afford to get hurt at this age.

“What you’re doing now is just because of your obsession. You feel sorry for me, so you want to make it up to me.

But I don’t need it. I just want to live the rest of my life in peace.

“Martin Weiss, will you leave me alone?”

She spoke softly. It was as if it was the calmness after the storm.

“It’s not an obsession. It’s because I love you! I love you no matter how old you are!” He roared with a choked up voice. “Kyla, I won’t hurt you. Believe me for once!”

However, she still looked at him with calm and indifferent eyes.

It was as if the distance between them would never close.

“Martin Weiss, my trust in you was completely destroyed back then. How are you going to make something that has been destroyed reappear again?”

What she said instantly sent him to hell.

When Kyla got back to the store, Mrs. Corbyn looked at her pale face and asked, “What’s the matter? Are you feeling sick again? What happened to going to the hospital for a follow-up? What did the doctor say?”
