“But what if Martin Weiss…”
“No matter what Martin Weiss wants to do, I’ll protect the person you want to protect. Grace, I told you I can give you everything you want, even my life. Let alone protecting a person,” said Jason.
Grace’s nose felt a little sore.
This was the man she loved. The man loved her with all he had!
How could she not love him?
“Jay, thank you, and…” She cupped his face and put her lips on his. “I love you!”
She loved him. It was as if she loved him a little more every day.
“Me too!” He responded to her kiss like he was intoxicated.
She was the only person who could make him so infatuated!
Kyla was ill at ease all night. She even signed the wrong page when her son needed a parent to sign his homework.
“Mommy, what’s come over you?” Even Nelson saw that something was wrong with his mother.
“N-Nothing, I’m just a little tired today.” Kyla hurried to find an excuse.
“Then you should rest earlier, Mommy!” Nelson said sensibly.
“Okay.” Kyla smiled.
After her son went to bed, she suddenly felt hungry, so she cooked a packet of instant noodles to cat.
However, that nausea came back again after only a few mouthfuls.
She immediately rushed to the kitchen sink and threw up.
“Blaargh… Blaargh…” She kept vomiting. Though she tried desperately to suppress the feeling, it only became more and more intense.
Finally, she stopped when she almost collapsed from throwing Kyla trembled as she gargled and washed the sink clean. Finally, she sat down in a chair with the soggy instant noodles in front of her.
Her hand slowly touched her belly. She vaguely knew the answer, but she did not want to admit it nor face it.
If she was pregnant, what was she going to do? What would happen to her relationship with Martin Weiss?
“No, it won’t be that coincidental. It was just one time. How is that possible…” she murmured. She wanted to deny it, but tears were already running down her eyes.
Kyla was sleepless that night.
In the following days, Kyla’s morning sickness continued. Mrs. Corbyn even caught her vomiting a few times.
“What’s come over you? Are you having an upset stomach? Why don’t I get some medicine for your stomach?”
asked Mrs. Corbyn.
“No thanks. I… I’ll go to the hospital this afternoon,” said Kyla, looking a little pale. No matter how she denied it, her frequent vomiting reminded her of the reality she did not want to face the most.
In the afternoon, Kyla came to the hospital and registered to see a gynecologist.
She only needed to do a blood test to find out whether she was pregnant. It would only take half an hour!
However, when she saw the numbers on the blood test, Kyla felt like she was struck by lightning.
‘Pregnant! Am I really pregnant?
‘I got pregnant again… from that one time!’
She tried to distance herself from him, but reality slapped her hard.
The gynecologist looked through her blood test results and said, “You’re pregnant. When was your last period?”
Kyla gave them a date.
The doctor said, “You’re four weeks pregnant. Come back the next day for a blood test to see if the numbers double.”
Kyla walked out of the hospital in silence. ‘Pregnant… I’m really pregnant. What should I do… with the baby?
‘Having an abortion would be the most sensible thing to do.
‘Abort the child and act as if nothing ever happened. Martin Weiss and I would proceed our lives with the way it’s supposed to be.
‘That’s what I want, right?’
‘But… that’s human life! The baby is growing in my womb now. Am I willing to abort them?’
When she was unjustly imprisoned, she was reluctant to abort Nelson even under such difficult circumstances. She was willing to give up her life to give birth to Nelson, let alone now!
Things were so much better now. Giving birth to the baby would not be as difficult as it was back then.
Kyla returned to the store with a lot on her mind.
Mrs. Corbyn asked, “What was it? What did the doctor say about your vomiting?”
“They just asked me to… eat blander food,” said Kyla. After a pause, she said, “Mom, what will you say if I have another child?”
She was now 35 years old. Although she was considered an older mother, many people could still give birth after 35
with the help of modern medicine.
Mrs. Corbyn froze, then said with a laugh, “Oh, you. Have you finally come around after I’ve been nagging you all these years? You’re still young. You can find the right person, start a new family, and have another baby. Your relationship will grow stronger too.”
Kyla immediately knew that her mother had misunderstood when she heard that.
However, Mrs. Corbyn continued saying, “Are you interested in Chase? I think Chase is a nice man. Juliet and Nelson hit it off too. I approve it if you’re thinking of starting a new family with him.”
“Mom, no. What are you thinking? I’m not starting a new family with anyone. I just… suddenly wondered if I could have more children.”
“How can you get more children if you don’t start a new family? Don’t tell me you’re adopting,” said Mrs. Corbyn.
After all, her daughter was not well of. She could not afford to adopt another child.
Kyla shook her head with a bitter smile. “No, it’s not what you think.” With that said, she went to work on other things without waiting for her mother to answer.
A day later, Kyla went to the hospital for a blood test again.
Even she could not explain why she did it. She could just abort the baby if she did not want them. There was no need to take a pregnancy test.
Perhaps… she had tacitly agreed to keep the baby?
Kyla was deep in a trance in the hospital’s blood drawing hall. She did not notice Martin Weiss standing at the entrance.
