“Don’t be like me. You’ll be looked down on if you’re like me,” said Nelson Corbyn.

“I’m not afraid. I’ll beat people up if anyone bullies Nelson!” Juliet sniffled but behaved domineeringly.

The two contradictory states strangely merged in her.

The irony and frost in Nelson Corbyn’s eyes seemed to be melted by Juliet’s young voice.

Kyla’s eyes were misty as she looked at Juliet. She suddenly felt grateful for the little girl, who was warm and friendly like Chase.

“Okay, don’t worry! Nelson is an outstanding child and will succeed in the future. When he does, no one will discriminate against him because of his hearing,” Chase Harper consoled as he patted Kyla’s shoulder.

“Thank you!” Kyla said with a sore nose. She was saying thank you to Chase Harper and Juliet.

However, the four people did not notice that someone was filming them with a phone in the distance.

In Weiss Residence, Martin Weiss silently looked at the photos he received in his email.

Not many people knew this email address. The sender’s email address was registered abroad, and every photo they sent was of Kyla and another man.

Four people were captured together.

Besides Nelson, there was another little girl. In the photos, they looked like a happy family of four.

Martin Weiss only found his chest feeling stuffy as if something heavy was pressing it, making him a little breathless.

He also knew the man in the photo. He had seen the man named Chase Harper at Kyla’s side back then.

This man seemed so ordinary to him, but he could make Kyla smile and Nelson approach him.

In some of the photos, Kyla and Chase Harper were looking into each other’s eyes. Kyla’s eyes were gentle and warm.

‘Does she know… how much I long for that warmth?‘

She used to look at him like that when he had not fallen out with her and misunderstood her for hurting Paisley Daniels.

Afterward, she looked at him with cold eyes.

Martin Weiss stared at the photos on the computer screen as he raised his fingers and gently stroked Kyla’s face.

“You said we’re even and owe each other nothing, but… is that really true? If we don’t owe each other anything, then tell me why I can’t get over you?”

The eyes of the woman in the photo were bright, but they were not directed at him.

After what had happened in the amusement park, Chase Harper came to the store to see Kyla several times. He brought Juliet with him every time because the little one was always asking for Nelson.

“I don’t know why this kid loves Nelson. She’s always asking for Nelson when we’re at home too. I’m so sorry for bothering you so often,” Chase Harper said with a slight embarrassment, “What’s there to be sorry for? Nelson likes Juliet too. The two kids hit it off with each other. It’s fate,” said Mrs. Corbyn before Kyla could speak.

The two children were in the back of the store. Nelson was teaching Juliet how to read. The words they were reading were Juliet Harper and Nelson Corbyn.

Nelson only wanted to teach the little one to read the words. ‘Juliet Harper‘, but Juliet insisted on learning Nelson Corbyn’s name as well.

Therefore, Nelson Corbyn wrote his name.

“Nelson Corbyn, Nelson Corbyn, Nelson…” Juliet kept pronouncing the words. She was keener on learning his name than her own name. After reading it out a few times, she even said to Nelson, “I’ll keep Nelson’s name in mind. That way, I can recognize it the next time I see your name!”

Nelson Corbyn smiled. “Okay, I’ll test whether you remember it or not next time.”

Kyla could not help smiling when she saw how well her son got along with Juliet. She could tell that her son liked Juliet too. It was why he would smile like that in front of her.

Her son used to smile when he met strangers too, but when he got older, he only smiled in front of people he knew well and were sincerely kind to him.

Thinking of how her son was smiling less and less, Kyla could not help but sigh to herself. Perhaps even if she tried to protect her son, her son still had to face some things himself.

As her son grew older, he might suffer more injustice and discrimination due to his hearing defect… There was no way she could stop these. She could only teach her son to be strong when facing these hurdles.

However, sometimes in the dead of night, she could not help thinking how things would turn out if Nelson had followed Martin Weiss and became the heir of the Weiss family.

Even with such a defect, no one would dare to discriminate against him.

“Chase, stay for dinner today!” said Mrs. Corbyn.

“Oh, that’s too much trouble,” said Chase Harper.

“It’s nothing. You’ve been very helpful to Kyla. You wouldn’t even accept the repair fee for the tricycle. What’s wrong with having a meal with us?” said Mrs. Corbyn.

Chase Harper scratched his head awkwardly. “Thank… Thank you, then.”

After they were done with dinner, Chase Harper left with Juliet. The little one reluctantly said goodbye to Nelson and got into the car with her father.

Kyla looked at her son. “Do you like Juliet very much?”

Nelson Corbyn said, “Yeah, Juliet’s cute. Just like Jasper. Perhaps Juliet and Jasper would become good friends if they met.”

“Maybe. Alright, you haven’t finished your homework today, have you? Hurry and do your homework,” Kyla said to her son.

Once Nelson went to his room to do his homework, Mrs. Corbyn walked to her daughter and said, “Chase’s nice. It’s inconvenient for a man to take care of his daughter. You and him…”

“Mom, are you trying to matchmake us again? Is that why you deliberately asked Chase to stay for dinner today?”

Kyla said as she seemed to see through her mother.

“I just want you two to spend more time together. You’ll only have feelings for each other after spending time together,” said Mrs. Corbyn.

Kyla smiled. She had fallen in love with Martin Weiss at first sight! She always thought she would fall in love with someone at first sight. Otherwise, she would not fall in love even if they knew each other for a long time!

Her heart was full of sarcasm when she thought of Martin Weiss. “Mom, I’m going to take out the garbage. Don’t worry about me.

I only think of Chase as a friend!”

With that said, Kyla headed outside with a bag of trash.

The night breeze outside made her cheeks feel a little cold, causing her to wince. She knew that her mother was afraid it would be hard for her to raise Nelson alone after her mother died.

However, it was hard for her to imagine herself with another man for the rest of her life. It was as if all her love had been exhausted when she was imprisoned.

Just as Kyla threw out the garbage and was walking back to the store, someone suddenly yanked her wrist from behind.

“Ah!” she exclaimed. Then, she staggered and was dragged aside.

The next moment, she was thrown into the back of a car and a body got on top of her.

The familiar scent shocked Kyla. “This is…”

Before she could speak, he kissed her lips. The eager kiss seemed to be trying to prove something, leaving Kyla almost breathless.

There was no light in the narrow car compartment. It was dim as only moonlight was shining through the car window.
