“Forget it. Let’s not talk about that.” Flossie looked ahead and said curiously, “I wonder what kind of surprise he got me. I hope it’s not too much.”

“I know what it is.” Quinton raised his chin and smiled. It looked like he was aware of what the surprise was. “What is it?”

“Let’s go. You’ll know when you reach there.”

Austin asked Flossie to head to the West Chamber because the surprise was there. When she reached, she opened the door and saw three familiar people.

“Adie, Abby, and Margaret?”

Flossie rubbed her eyes, unable to believe it. Both Adie and Abby were chasing a butterfly in the grass while Margaret was using a camera to snap photos of them. When they heard Flossie’s voice, they happily ran toward her. “Mommy, we’re finally reunited! I miss you so much!”

Adie and Abby hugged Flossie’s arms respectively, refusing to let go of her.

“It’s been a while. You guys are taller now…” Flossie was excited and moved when she noticed that her children’s height almost reached her shoulders.

Her children gradually grew up, and it symbolized the extension of her life to some extent. It was also the evidence of her existence.

“Mommy, your trip was pretty long. We couldn’t get in touch with you and we thought something went wrong with you.”

Abb was teary. She cried daily when Flossie was away because she missed her mother so much.

“Be strong and independent, Abby. Mommy gave birth to us but didn’t bind us to her. She should lead her life independently. If she loves traveling, let her travel as long as she’s happy,” Adie said.

Adie touched Abby’s head. While comforting Abby, he tried to relieve Flossie’s guilt of being away.

“I know. She didn’t bind us to her, but I missed her. Plus…” Abby carefully looked at Flossie and said tentatively. Can’t I cry if she finds a new daddy for us?”

“Of course not!” Adie behaved maturely and stood on tiptoe to pat Abby’s head. “We already have a Daddy. She’s not getting a new daddy for us. She’s only getting a man who loves her. We should be happy instead!”

Abby blinked and felt that Adie was right, so she stopped resisting it.

“Adie, you’re right. I think Mr. Baldwin is a pretty good guy though he’s not as handsome, mature, charming, and capable as Daddy…”

Abby couldn’t stop talking. She compared Justin to Halston and mentioned endless aspects where Justin was worse than Halston.

Coincidentally, Justin came with a lot of local delicacies for Adie, Abby, and Margaret when he learned that they had come. He happened to witness that scene.

“Mr. Baldwin isn’t as smart as Daddy. Plus, his voice isn’t as pleasant as Daddy’s. Sometimes he’s more childish than us though he’s an adult…”

“Ahem, ahem!” Flossie noticed Justin’s arrival and immediately cleared her throat to try to stop Abby from commenting on Justin.

Unfortunately, Abby didn’t stop. It was unknown if she did it on purpose or if she admired Halston too much. “But…” Abby finally stopped talking about Justin’s weaknesses.

A sigh of relief soon escaped Flossie. She knew Abby was about to say something nice about Justin. If not, Justin would feel very downhearted.

“But he’s nice. I’m sure he can protect you well. I can accept him.”

“That’s great!” Justin was downcast, but when he heard such words from Abby, his gloominess soon disappeared. He would feel very satisfied as long as Abby approved of him regardless of how many criticisms he had gained. “Mr. Baldwin!” Abby turned and saw Justin. She felt a little embarrassed. “I said so many bad things about you just now, but please don’t be mad. It’s Mommy picking her husband. As long as she likes you, my opinions don’t matter.”

She feared Justin would scold Flossie because of the bad things she had said about him, so she immediately tried to resolve the issue sensibly.

“silly. I won’t be mad at you!”

Justin sincerely liked Adie and Abby, especially Abby. He felt that she looked very much like Flossie. He wouldn’t object even if she beat him up, let alone say some bad things about him.

“Yes, you were right. I’m not as handsome, smart, and capable as your daddy, but I promise that I’ll treat your mommy better than him. She won’t cry when she’s with me. Plus, I won’t put her in a dangerous situation. You don’t have to worry about leaving her in my care!” he swore as he rubbed Abby’s head.

“I’m glad and relieved to hear that,” Adie said- he behaved like an adult.

He solemnly warned Justin, “We came here from Beach City today to support Mommy. We’ll leave her in your care. You must be nice to her, and you can’t hurt her. If you make her cry, I won’t let you off the hook!”

Flossie felt helpless. “Brat, stop acting like an adult. You’re still in elementary school. What do you mean, you won’t let him off the hook?”

“Stay out of this, Mommy.” Adie still looked handsome and tough, and said coldly, “In short, I’ll make anyone who dares to harm you pay a heavy price!”

He wasn’t bragging. Although he was still an elementary student, he was shockingly talented in many aspects, especially writing codes and making attacks. He might be more awesome than Flossie and Justin in another three or five years.

If they fell out with each other at that time, Adie could casually make a few viruses. He couldn’t fight them head- on, but he could at least make the properties under the Baldwin family plummet.

“Same with me,” Quinton chimed in, shooting Justin a cold and threatening glare. “If you guys are lovey-dovey, I’ll sincerely give you my blessings. If you let her down, I’ll ruin your family.”

The air grew fierce because of Adie and Quinton’s warning.

“Uh…” Justin was clueless about how he should respond to them. Feeling awkward, he raised the food. “Let’s eat something.”

“This is a serious moment, and I’m still waiting for your reply. I don’t want to eat anything!” Quinton kept his solemn face, his tone far from joking.

“Yeah, say something!” Adie urged Justin and hoped to get a reply.

“I…” For the first time, Justin felt stressed. Both Quinton and Adie were difficult to handle. Undeniably, Flossie’s family was powerful.

“Okay, stop it! What are you doing? How could you bully the host here?” Flossie chided them.

She couldn’t take it anymore and tried to mediate the situation.

She added helplessly, “We’re about to be a family. People might mistake us as enemies. Just cool it.”

“But Mommy, we’ll be worried if we don’t make things clear now. Your ex-husband was unreliable, so your future husband can’t be that unreliable too.”

Adie acted like he was trying to talk some sense into Flossie. He hoped his mother could find a man who was nice to her and could make her happy.

When he was younger, he had witnessed how Flossie faced difficulties alone. He also saw how heartbroken she was every time his father hurt her. He didn’t want to see her spend the rest of her life with sadness and difficulties.

“Don’t worry!” Justin didn’t feel offended at all. He could understand why they felt that way. After taking a deep breath, he said sincerely, “Flossie and I will be good. I’ll spend the rest of my protecting her well.”

His promise might seem hollow, but others approved of it. They happily sat down together to chat and eat. It was a harmonious scene.

Everything was arranged well. It seemed Flossie and Justin’s marriage was fixed.

The engagement ceremony was in full swing. The Baldwins spread the news and invited all great families from all over the world.

Naturally, the Guajardo family, the head of The Great Eight of Beach City, was invited as well. When they received the invitation card, they were shocked beyond words. All of them were glum.

Francine looked at the gilded words on the invitation card and cried, “How could this be?”

Francine’s cry attracted Alexander’s attention. He was reading the newspaper while sitting on the sofa. It was the New Year, and everyone was waiting for Halston to come home for a meal.

Alexander put the newspaper down and looked at Francine with confusion. “Dear, it’s the New Year. Why are you making so much noise?”

“Nothing.” Francine found herself unable to hold the invitation card. She wanted to throw it away, never to expose it to anyone else.

However, her reaction made Alexander feel that things weren’t that simple. He placed the newspaper down and walked toward her.

“What have you got there? Who’s getting married? They sent us an invitation card.”
