Filed To Story: A Second Chance with My Billionaire Love
Both Austin and Sophia were rendered speechless.
They were engaged in a heated discussion when Flossie hurried to the dining room.
While smoothing her hair, Flossie yanked her clothes and tried to catch her breath. “I’m sorry to keep you waiting. There’s an accident.”
Everyone looked up at her eagerly, though they were puzzled.
“Oh, why did you come so soon? Justin let me down.” Austin looked disappointed and nearly said that Justin wasn’t a real man.
“Yes, Flossie. You were busy just now, so you can rest. I’ll have the servant deliver the food to the West Chamber for you to eat there. You don’t have to dine with us here,” Sophia said.
Sophia studied Flossie, fearing the latter might be exhausted. She hurriedly got up to help Flossie to her seat.
“How are you feeling? Are you tired? Justin is a sensible man, I’m sure he didn’t bully you.” “Hmph! How could he bully her in such a short time? He’s weak. He should work out!” Austin snapped, dissatisfied with Justin’s performance.
“Dad, you’re being so picky. Whether he’s good or not depends on Flossie. Stop trying to start something!” Sophia said.
Flossie found their words confusing.
Jack, who sat quietly at the side, went straight to the point. “Why did you come alone? Where’s Justin?”
“Yes, where is he? He should come with you!” Sophia added curiously.
“Well, he…” Flossie averted her gaze and waved. In the end, she gave an ambiguous answer. He’s tired and is lying down, so I came to have dinner with you.”
“I see…”
Hearing the explanation from Flossie, Sophia was disappointed with her son. Justin could run a marathon for a few miles, but he unexpectedly tired easily when he needed to hold on for a little longer.
It was a rare chance that might never happen again. Sophia was rather disappointed, let alone Flossie.
Sophia tried to save face for her son. “Don’t take it to heart. He’s usually strong. Maybe he likes you so much that he…got agitated.”
“I didn’t take it to heart,” Flossie said seriously. “I can understand him. After all, he’s a young man. I taught him a lesson, too. I believe that he’ll be careful from now on.”
“Yes, we should give the young man a chance!” Austin chimed in.
They enjoyed a pleasant dinner together.
Sophia held Flossie’s arm and said, “Are you tired? If you’re not, let’s take a walk in the garden. I’d like to tell you something about Justin and my family.”
“I’m fine.” After a head-to-toe treatment, Flossie was very much relaxed. Besides, she had enjoyed a great meal. She was more than happy to walk with Sophia.
“Alright. I’m glad to see you guys get along well. I’m going to bed. I’m very pleased today,” Austin said. He left with the help of the walking stick and Jack.
The Baldwin residence was a classical mansion featuring unique gardens, delicate layouts, and elegant sceneries. It was very artistic. People would involuntarily relax here.
Flossie and Sophia passed through a rockery and came to a pond. Flowers decorated the surface, with fish swimming through them.
“Flossie, there’s no one else here. Tell me what’s on your mind,” Sophia said.
She was carrying a packet of fish flakes and calmly sprinkled them into the pond. Instantly, the fish came competing for the fish flakes.
Flossie was standing nearby. At first, she eagerly watched the beautiful fish, but she became serious when she heard Sophia’s solemn question.
“Mrs. Baldwin, I don’t understand. What are you referring to?”
“Of course, I’m talking about you and Justin.” Sophia turned around and studied Flossie with interest. “Do you sincerely want to spend the rest of your life with him?”
Flossie nodded without any hesitation. “Yes, I do.”
“Then, do you sincerely…love him?”
Sophia hurriedly asked Flossie.
“Uh…” Flossie flexed her fingers; she couldn’t bring herself to lie.
She wondered if she loved Justin. She couldn’t tell.
A large part of her reason for choosing Justin was because she didn’t hate him. Sometimes, she felt that he was her soulmate. If she had to start a new romance, she hoped it would be with him. At least, she could be intimate with him and could imagine sleeping in the same bed with him.
“I got it. You don’t love him.” Sophia saw through Flossie at a glance. A long sigh escaped her. “We’re all sports of fate. If we insisted on him marrying you when your family was ruined, the ending might be different.”
“Did you guys know me at that time?” Flossie asked curiously.
She had heard Justin mention that before, but she assumed that he had purposely talked nonsense to set up a good image. Since Sophia had admitted, it seemned to be the truth.
“Of course!” Sophia smiled and added, “Your family was prosperous at that time and was famous at North City too. Plus, Justin’s grandpa was close to yours. When he learned about your family’s calamity, he wanted to help immediately. He even wanted to make Justin marry you.
“Unfortunately, even though everything was prepared, Justin refused. He claimed that he loved someone else and would marry no one else. He left a letter behind and went missing. Dad was furious and nearly made a big scene. He had to watch you marry Halston…”
Flossie stayed calm as she listened to Sophia’s description, as if it had all happened in the last century. She smiled helplessly. “I didn’t expect Justin to be telling the truth. It seems like my relationship with him started earlier than with my ex-husband.”
“Yeah, he told me later on that the one he loved very much happened to be you. He just wanted to marry you. Oh, he got so frustrated because of it. He was such a fool!”
Sophia found it a pity.
She added melancholically, “If he agreed to marry you at that time, you’d be very happy, given my family’s relationship with yours. I know you didn’t lead a very happy life after you married Halston. He even cheated on you.”
“That happened a long time ago. Let’s not talk about that.” Flossie felt awkward to hear the outsiders thinking her marriage was a catastrophe. It was an embarrassing history for her.
It wasn’t that she resented the Guajardo family. On the contrary, she was grateful for the days she spent with them. She got to experience having a home and being loved by Halston. Regardless of how nasty her ending with Halston was, she didn’t want others to trample on his sincerity.
“I’m sorry.” Sophia found her words impudent. “Everyone has a past. Regardless if it was good or bad, it’s your past. I shouldn’t have commented on it so callously. I hope your life will be wonderful from now on.”
“Thank you.” Flossie took a deep breath as if she had made up her mind. “I’ll work hard toward a wonderful future with Justin.”
“I’m glad to hear that.” Sophia threw some fish flakes into the pond again and added absent -mindedly, “If I were you, I’d stop getting in touch with the Guajardo family. If you knew the inside story, you wouldn’t forgive them!”
“Inside story?” Confused, Flossie looked at Sophia. “What is it?”
“I can’t tell you that. All I can say is the Guajardo family isn’t as good as you see them. Even if they’ve helped you, it’s because they’re trying to make up for their sins. You don’t have to be grateful to them. Getting away from them is the best choice you made.”
Sophia, being from the last generation, had heard of the complicated relationships among the three families even though she had not seen them. However, she couldn’t expose those affairs to the younger generation lest the worst happen. The most she could do was to remind Flossie.
Flossie could tell that Sophia wouldn’t tell her too much and stopped asking. However, she kept it in mind and decided to find the truth.
“Okay, Flossie. Stop overthinking. Since you’re here, just spend your days with peace of mind. My family is strong and can protect you for the rest of your life. Just enjoy your life with Justin.”
“Got it.” Flossie nodded, pretending to have seen it through.
Sophia said nothing more since Flossie was quite obedient.
At night, Flossie returned to her room.
