However, she was raised too high. Though he was standing on tiptoe, he could only hold her ankles. He couldn’t relieve her pain at all.

Both Flossie and Justin were shocked by what they had seen.

“You guys said he had no weakness, but I didn’t believe you. Now, I see that he’s a heartless man. He doesn’t even let his daughter off the hook!” Justin shook his head, pitying Amber. Yet, he did not act recklessly.

Naturally, Flossie couldn’t stand it. She marched to Benjamin and said seriously, “Mr. Jenkins, this is between us. It has nothing to do with Amber. We can talk it out. Why do you have to make things difficult for Amber? She’s your daughter. Will you be happy if she’s hurt?”

“I need to settle this with you.” Benjamin glared coldly at Liam and Amber, then cracked a sneer.” But before that, I need to handle my family affairs. If not, this black sheep will ruin my family.”

While talking, they could hear Amber’s piteous cries.

Mateo’s car followed close behind and stopped at the door of the fort. When he saw that scene, he was scared out of his wits.

“Master!” Mateo knelt in front of Benjamin. “I was wrong! I let Liam and his friends hurt your nephew, but Gem was ignorant. Don’t punish her! Punish me instead!”

Blood had drained out of his face.

Benjamin looked at Mateo and sneered. “I know you won’t betray me. I raised you like my son, but you let me down and failed to subdue her. She got fooled by the traitor.”

“I’m sorry, Master. We can’t force people to fall in love with us. I’m not charming enough to make Gem like me…”

Feeling defeated, Mateo gritted his teeth and looked at Liam and Amber with jealousy.

“But Master, give me some time. I believe that she’s just bewitched by Liam. If she marries me, I’ll make sure that she’ll come to her senses. She’ll be loyal to you and the fort.”

“How can you prove that?” Benjamin sized Mateo up with an unreadable expression. “I’ll give you two choices. We’ll keep Amber, but you need to die for her. That, or you kill her. Then, you’ll be my son from now on. I’ll let you take over my business.”

“What?! Master, how could you?” Mateo looked at Benjamin in disbelief. He didn’t expect Benjamin to say that.

“What? Are you going to say no?” Benjamin looked at Mateo condescendingly with a hollow smile. “I know you want my position. At first, I tried to choose between you and Liam. I wanted to see which of you could win my daughter’s heart.

“Then, I figured something out. Women are always too passionate. They’d cause delays and might fall for the wrong guy. The business I worked so hard for my whole life would end up in the traitor’s hand. I might as well get rid of her to stop wasting my time and effort.”

It sounded like Amber had broken Benjamin’s heart, so he decided to get rid of that annoying daughter of his.

That kind of idea might sound illogical to other fathers, but it was reasonable for Benjamin since he was already a crazy demon who had killed many people.

Mateo swallowed and said shakily, “Master, Gem’s your most beloved daughter. It’s okay if you punish her if you’re angry, but you can’t kill her. If you do, it’ll be too late even if you regret it.”

“Yes, I love her very much, but she kept disobeying me and disturbing my mind by disregarding the future of the fort. I’m afraid that she’ll ruin the fort one day, so I have to get rid of her.” Benjamin closed his eyes, his words cruel. He looked like he had suffered greatly.

“He must be out of his mind. It’s not easy to raise his daughter until she’s all grown up…but he wants to kill her,” Justin whispered to Flossie.

“If he’s normal, he won’t be involved in such shameless businesses.” Flossie frowned and glared at Benjamin. She wanted to seek justice, but she decided to stay put and watch instead.

Since things were getting serious, Justin asked Flossie curiously, “What should we do? Should we fight him?”

Right now, Flossie was their leader. They would do whatever she said.

“Let’s see how things go.” Flossie crossed her arms and watched Benjamin and Mateo. She wondered if Benjamin would truly kill his daughter in the end.

“If we fight them, I don’t think we’ll win since they’re three times stronger than us.Unless…” Justin paused.

It made Flossie curious. She tilted her head and looked at him. “Unless what?”

“Unless we get helpers.”

Justin laughed helplessly and said reluctantly, “There’s something I didn’t tell you just now. When Halston came to me, he gave me a button. If I can’t handle it, I have to press that button. He’ll immediately rush over to help… So, should I press that button?”

Flossie was stunned, then said coldly, “That’s unnecessary. It’s not that serious!”

“Is it…not serious?” Justin looked at Benjamin, who had gone berserk. He said helplessly, “Don’t you think he’s as crazy as Macsen? These people can do anything if they’re crazy! He doesn’t even want his daughter. I think he might kill all of us!”

“I don’t think so.” Flossie was quite calm. “He isn’t a fool even though he’s crazy. It won’t do him any good if he kills us.”

“Fine. You’re calm.”

Justin sighed and said carefully, “You turned down my suggestion to ask for assistance. It’s not because you’re confident that we can escape. You just don’t want to meet Halston, do you?”

He felt that he knew Flossie she acted tough and indifferent, but she cared about that very much. She would rather fight Benjamin with a slim chance to win instead of owning Halston a favor.

It meant that she had yet to forget about him.

“Yes, I don’t want to meet him, especially in such a way,” Flossie confessed, flexing her fingers. She smiled helplessly and added, “I owe him a great deal. It’s best if we don’t have anything to do with each other.”

Justin tried to seek justice for Flossie, feeling sorry for her. “No, it’s the other way around. He owes you a great deal!”

Although he didn’t fully understand what happened between them, he could tell that Flossie always suffered the most. She was always sad and criticizing herself. Besides, to see who owed something to the other, it depended on how much one had sacrificed for a relationship. In this case, Flossie had sacrificed more than Halston.

“It’s no longer important. It’s best if we have nothing to do with each other. Plus, he avoided suspicion by asking you to come instead.” Flossie looked expressionless as if she had accepted everything. She added in a whisper, “I can handle this well. If you get him, it seems like I’m trying to pester him shamelessly.”

“You’re right. I think we can handle it. We don’t need him.” Justin finally understood Flossie and stopped convincing her to get Halston’s help.

It was best for them to have nothing to do with each other. However, it was unknown if they could escape such a complicated situation.

Benjamin was still making a scene.

Benjamin stuffed a knife into his hand Mateo’s hand, unnerving the latter.

“I need you to make a choice,” Benjamin ordered coldly. “If you want to take over my place, kill Amber. If you want to keep her, stab yourself instead!”

“I… I…” Holding the knife, Mateo’s hand kept trembling. He almost had a mental breakdown.” Master, is there no other choice? You don’t have to be this ruthless. Gem and I didn’t do anything outrageous! Can’t both of us live?”

“Didn’t I make myself clear?”

“None of you did anything wrong,” Benjamin said icily, “but I want to know your stand. If you kill her, you don’t have any worry. I’ll know you’re someone who can do something big.

“If you can’t do it, it means that you aren’t suited to take over my position because your sentiments will get in the way sooner or later. They’ll make you an indecisive coward!”

“But I…” Mateo held the shiny knife and bent forward. He looked at Benjamin and Amber, then hung his head in defeat. “I can’t do that.”

“What can’t you do?” Benjamin narrowed his eyes and looked at the collapsed Mateo coldly.

“I can’t kill Gem…” Mateo staggered and sobbed. “I grew up with her. She’s kind and delicate. I’d long sworn to protect her my whole life. I can’t watch her get hurt! But now, you’re asking me to kill her. I can’t do it… I’d rather kill myself!”

“Hmph! You can’t even do that. If someone catches her and threatens you to betray me one day, you’ll do that without hesitation. So, my worry is logical,” Benjamin snapped, his face cold and impassive.

“Are you okay, Amber?” Liam hugged Amber, who almost fainted from the torture. His eyes were teary as he yelled at Benjamin, “She blacked out because you tortured her! Are you satisfied now?”

Benjamin walked to Amber and Liam, staring at them condescendingly and emotionlessly, as if they were nothing but garbage.

“She can’t even handle a bit of pain. She can’t be my daughter.”

“Tell me what you want! I can fight you. It’s better than venting anger on the innocent Amber. Plus …she’s your daughter!” Liam snarled.
