Justin shook his head, annoyed by how Liam was dragging the topic. He just wanted Liam to be straightforward. Given his identity, it would make him seem like he was harboring something bad if he exposed the truth. If Liam did it instead, he would seem more innocent.
“Okay, I’ll get straight to the point… Liam glanced at Flossie, about to talk.
But Flossie interrupted him. “No, let me.”
Both men became anxious as they looked at Flossie carefully and waited for her answer.
“Halston told you, didn’t he?” Flossie asked Justin.
She looked calmer than they expected. It seemed like she had long guessed it.
Liam and Justin wanted her to find out and give up on that scumbag.
“Phoenix, you’re smart. I’ll stop lying to you. Halston was the first to learn that you were in danger. He came to me and asked Xavier and me to rescue you guys,” Justin said honestly.
“Hmph! He asked you guys to come instead of coming himself. He’s so passionate that he’s afraid of getting killed. That’s so weird!” Liam mocked, laughing derisively.
“He’s not afraid of getting killed, Flossie said calmly, facing Liam and Justin’s mockery with a poker face.
Halston was disloyal or heartless, but she knew that he was never afraid of getting killed. If he were, he would not have risked his life to save her repeatedly.
Liam hated how Flossie defended Halston without any boundaries. He frowned and refuted, “If he wasn’t, why didn’t he come himself?”
After some contemplation, Flossie laughed in self-mockery. “Maybe… He might want to avoid suspicion.”
After all, he was dating someone new. If he risked his life to save his ex-lover, it would be very impudent of him.
“Uh…” Liam opened his mouth, wanting to say something nasty, but he couldn’t bring himself to do so.
Flossie’s words seemed more hurtful…
In a while, the car reached the fort.
Naturally, Benjamin was alerted since there was such a big scene. All the armed forces of the fort were dispatched. The whole fort was brightly lit though it was late at night. Everyone was fully armed and ready.
When Liam opened the car door, many guins were aimed at him.
“Liam…” Amber was standing behind Benjamin. Seeing Liam, anxiety gripped her. She could not stop herself from running toward him.
However, Benjamin dragged her back and slapped her twice. “Ungrateful little wench! How could you defend him? Do you want him to ruin the whole fort and kill me?!”
When Liam saw that, he immediately became nervous. He braced himself and stepped forward, greeting Benjamin. “Mr. Jenkins, I caused this. You can punish me. Don’t harm Amber. She doesn’t know anything!”
“Yes, I know that she’s ignorant. If not, you guys wouldn’t fool her like this.”
Benjamin glared at Amber, feeling that she had let him down.
“I would be gratified if she knew anything. Unfortunately.. Well, women are just women. They’re disappointing and useless!”
Amber was speechless and teary. She did not refute him either as she lowered her head.
A few hours ago, she boldly told Liam that she would live for herself. She would do business like Flossie and was confident about taking over Benjamin’s business.
It was sarcastic.
Amber admired her father, but he never took her seriously. At most, he regarded her as an inferior woman who could only support her husband and brought no value.
Amber suddenly realized that her pathetic life wasn’t the outcome of her character or someone else’s fault. Her fate was long decided since she grew up in such a family with such a male chauvinist as her father.
“Mr. Jenkins, you can’t say that!” Liam snapped.
He understood Amber. She looked delicate but had unique thoughts and ambitions. However, she did not have the chance to show herself.
Finally, Liam raised her self-awareness. She could boldly express herself and realize her true self. She had yet to do anything, so it was infuriating to see Benjamin put her down.
“Stop being so old-fashioned! Men and women are the same. You kept praising me, saying I was smart and good at doing business. But Flossie is more awesome than me. We established Azure Group together, and she spent a lot of effort on it. Its current output is way ahead of other similar companies. Plus, it can even compete against Guajardo Enterprise….

“Stop joking…” Disheartened, Amber laughed at herself. “He knows me well and knows that I can’t do anything, so he never taught me anything men do. All he asked me to do was learn house chores and finance. That’s my fate.

Benjamin’s abusive words ruined all of Amber’s confidence. She felt like she was just a clown. Her dreams, ambitions, self-awareness, and the idea that women and men were similarly capable were nothing but jokes!
“Gem, why are you disheartened again? You can’t give up on yourself,” Liam said anxiously. He had finally helped raise her self-awareness. She had yet to rise, but she was already dispirited. If she marry someone else eagerly later, it would drive him mad.
Amber ignored Liam and said to Benjamin, “Dad, I’ll remember what you said. I’ll always obey you from now on. But the conflict between Liam and Uncle Macsen was just an accident. Can you stop and let them go?”
“You’re still pleading for them? You’re so disappointing and useless!” Angry, Benjamin vented his wrath on Amber. “Tie her up! I want her to see how much those people care for her even though she begged for them!”
Two men grabbed Amber and tied her up. They hung her on the pillar at the entrance of the fort.
“Stop!” Liam yelled, anxious. He rushed to Benjamin and roared, “Are you out of your mind? She’s your daughter! Why do you have to torture her like this?!”
“I can’t see her be this ungrateful because she’s my daughter.” Benjamin was frosty, his disappointment in Amber apparent.
Then he instructed the two men who were responsible for hanging Amber. “Pull her higher! Tighten the rope!”
“Ah!” Amber was lifted in the air. The pull almost tore her apart, making her cry out in pain.
“Put her down now! We can talk it out!” Liam yelled, nervous. He kept rebuking Benjamin as he ran to the entrance, and tried to carry Amber to reduce her pain.
