Korine snapped a look at Araiya, who looked away. She didn’t want Korine to stay because of her, if she could get away, she should take it.
“Why would he think that?” Korine hedged her question.
“I have no idea wife, we are wed, why would I give you up? He is trying to negotiate. I may allow it, I may not, but it is always fun to watch a man beg.” Donal walked over to Korine and caressed her face. “You were such a beauty, let us go show your father how I improved your face. Do you think he will still want you when he sees you?”
“Probably not.” Shavon walked into the tent. “Although most men just use women for their breedability, and unless you burned her inside as well, she would still be useful. Just horrendously disfigured.” Shavon laughed at her statement. “Zephyr tires of the father, if you want the man alive for your surprise, I would get the girls outside quickly. Or else he might shift and eat him.” Shavon walked over to Araiya.
“Come, wife.” Donal unlocked Korine and turned and threw the key to Shavon. “Only unlock the end attached to the pole. If you unlock the chains around her, you die Chosen, remember that.”
“Araiya? Can you walk?” Shavon unlocked the chain around the pole and Araiya grabbed her hand. “Come on, I will help you up.”
“Von, unlock the chains so I can access my power.” She slowly got to her knees, unable to straighten fully. “Please, I can save us both. You don’t have to be afraid.”
“I can’t.” Shavon pulled her up. She started to walk her out.
“Why?”
“I have suffered these past months. I will not suffer his wrath again, not even for you, Araiya. I’m sorry.”
“I would protect you.” Araiya’s bent form tugged her to a stop. “I would always protect you.”
“Look at you Rai, you can’t even protect yourself anymore.” Shavon’s words cut deep, causing Araiya to flinch. “I don’t say it to hurt you, it is just the truth.”
“Funny, since you were the one that did this to me.” Araiya shot back and continued forward, no longer using Shavon as support. She made her way slowly out of the tent, until Shavon stomped out, tugging the chain violently and causing her to spill on to the ground outside the tent.
“What took you so long.”
“Araiya,” was all Shavon said. Korine came over and helped Araiya to her feet.
“Stand up and get into the wagon. What the fuck is wrong with you?”
“Shavon healed her back wrong, she’s stuck this way.” Korine walked her over and helped her into the wagon.
Zephyr turned on Shavon. “You crippled the Darkness’s brood mare? The only one he has ever showed interest in? Are you stupid or fucking insane?” Zeph started to breathe hard. “He will kill all of us now that she’s damaged, you fool!”
“I told you not to ask me to heal her! I don’t have the skill! She wouldn’t have needed the healing if Donal here didn’t fucking wreck her back.” Shavon shot back. Donal’s face turned bright red when he jumped out of the wagon and got in her face.
“You’re the sadistic bitch that was plucking at her spine like it was a scratching post. Who is to say that didn’t do the final damage that left her broken.” Donal screamed at Shavon. He was so worked up, spittle landed on her face.
Shavon wiped off her face and grimaced. “Listen old man, do not spit on me. Be angry all you like, but if you fucking spit on me one more time, I will gut you.”
Korine and Araiya turned and watched Shavon’s and Donal’s interaction with interest. Who is she to speak to him that way? She was just like the capture in the snare of the darkness’s men. But surprisingly, Donal backed off once Zephyr walked behind her.
“You’re safe now, girl. But he won’t always be around you. Now let’s get into the wagon, we have places to be. Come wife, come speak to your father.” Donal watched on as Korine helped Araiya over to the wagon. Shavon slid in first and sat across from Jon. Then Korine helped Araiya in and slid in next to her. Araiya was across from Donal and Korine was across from Zephyr. Once everyone was in, Zephyr pounded on the side of the wagon and they were off.
“Korine, my darling girl, how have you been holding up?” Jon asked, but Korine ignored him completely.
“Wife, your father asked you a question. Answer him.” Donal leaned over and pinched her cheek, like she was a toddler.
Korine shrugged off his hand and faced her father. He paled when he saw her face. “What father, do you not like my new look? Donal here has put in the effort to remake me in his preferred image, isn’t that right, husband?” Korine looked off to the side, watching the tents fade into the distance.
“Donal? You did this to my little girl? But you have Araiya, you got the whore you wanted,” Jon whined.
“I made my wife beautiful before Araiya was retrieved. Not my fault you couldn’t Keep your daughters in line. Now look at them. Perfectly docile little wives. I have succeeded where you failed.” Donal smirked at Jon who in turned glared down at Araiya.
“This is your fault, you stupid little bitch. Her face is ruined, and it is your fucking fault. She is only here because you went off instead of coming here.”
Araiya chuckled and slid her hand down the bench until her hand reached Korine’s. She placed her hand over hers and squeezed. “You are right about one thing Jon, she is here because I went away, but it isn’t my fault. It’s yours. And for fucks sakes, you pedophilic abusive asshole, she is just as beautiful as she ever was.”
“What the fuck did you say to me?” Jon roared as he stood over her.
Araiya laughed. She laughed so hard she cried. She held her side as laughed and cried. “Oh Jon, it would be a cold day in Fire before I would ever be afraid of you ever again. I am not a child you can abuse; I am not weak like I used to be. I will be damned if I allow you to treat me as such and even funking crippled, I will still kill you if you so much as look at me the wrong way, you sick fuck.”
Jon sat down slowly, looking like a fish. “How, how dare you. I raised you.”
“You fucking abused me you fucking coward.” Korine flipped her hand over and threaded their fingers together while everyone else watched on. The wagon was silent until it came to a stop.
