Those standing in a row at the door were trying to comfort Luneth. However, they were quickly rebuked and became too timid to approach her.

“It’s fine.” Amber was aware of her aunt’s temper. Smiling, she kept moving forward. “I heard Grady got hurt. As his cousin, I need to see him. Plus, Aunt Luneth always treats me nicely. She won’t be angry at me.”

“Ms. Jenkins, you don’t know how serious this is. There’s a big hole in the boy’s head. The doctor said it might affect his intelligence. Mrs. Klein became so anxious, she lost her mind. She’s hugging the boy and keeps crying. She doesn’t allow anyone to get close to her. It’s useless even if you go in,’ Jayna insisted.

“Got it.” Amber spread her hands and stopped Jayna from speaking.

She took a deep breath and opened the door of the room.

“Who is it? Didn’t I tell you that no one is allowed to come in?! Get out!” Luneth screamed.

The spacious room was a mess. The floor was full of broken bottles, cans, and messy ornaments. There was some unknown and sticky water, too. Luneth was sitting in bed with her legs crossed, crying profusely while hugging her son.

“Aunt Luneth, it’s me.” Amber walked into the room on tiptoe for fear she might step on the water. She held her breath and slowly entered the room.

‘I don’t care who you are! You must have come to harm my son! Get lost now!” Luneth picked up a teacup and threw it at Amber’s head.

“Ah!” Amber failed to dodge in time; the teacup crashed on her forehead and left a large scar. Blood started flowing down her face. “My eyes!”

Amber instinctively covered her face; moaning in pain, she squatted on the floor.

By relying on the dimmed light, Luneth peeked through the curtains of her bed and looked ahead of her. After a while, she finally regained her wits.

“Is that you, Gem?”

“Mm, Aunt Luneth. I heard Grady’s hurt, so I came to see you. I mean no harm. You know me, don’t you? I’m Gem, your favorite!” Amber replied.

Amber grabbed some tissues beside her and carefully covered the scratch between her brows. She kept calm in hopes that she could make Luneth let down her guard.

She knew very well that Liam, Flossie, and Leia would be doomed if she didn’t stop Luneth from telling Benjamin and Macsen about this incident. Although her face hurt badly from the teacup, it was nothing compared to their safety.

‘I’m sorry, Gem… I didn’t do it on purpose. I was too angry and scared!” Luneth realized how aggressive she had been, and apologized to Amber in sobs.

At the same time, she complained piteously, ‘You know how hard it was for me to get a child. Grady is very dear to Macsen and me. We don’t even speak loudly to him or beat him up. But today, someone pressed him to the ground and beat him up. There’s such a large hole in his head! The doctors told me that we needed to take good care of his wound. If it gets infected or he gets tetanus, the bacteria or virus might invade his brain and turn him mentally impaired!

“He’s my only child! I took great care of him. If he’s mentally impaired, I’ll kill myself! Macsen will kill me too. He’ll blame me for failing to take good care of our son. He’ll shoot me!”

Luneth was crying as she complained; she felt awful for her son Grady and was also terrified of Macsen at the same time.

From some aspects, Macsen was more ruthless than Benjamin because he held the military power of the whole fort. One look from him could decide anyone’s destiny in the fort.

Although Luneth was Benjamin’s younger sister and Macsen’s wife, she would get into trouble if Macsen’s limits were challenged. It was also the reason why she didn’t immediately inform Macsen about Grady’s injury despite how helpless and frustrated she felt.

‘Don’t be scared. Uncle Macsen is still someplace else right now, and has no idea what had happened here. He won’t know about Grady’s injury as long as we take good care of it,” Amber said.

She walked forward and pulled the curtain apart, then looked at Luneth who was sitting in bed helplessly.

“I can help you. We can handle this together.”

Luneth looked at Amber doubtfully. “How are you going to help me handle it?”

At that time, Grady was asleep. His head was thickly wrapped in bandages. It looked very serious. No wonder Luneth panicked.

When people panicked, they would try to protect and isolate themselves. They wouldn’t get in touch with others to ensure their safety.

This was Luneth’s current state of mind. After the doctor bandaged Grady’s wound, she drove everyone away. All she did afterward was hug him and hide in bed, prohibiting anyone from getting close.

After such a chaotic day, Grady dozed off. However, Luneth was still very worried. She had no idea what she should do. When Amber impulsively barged into the room, it initially brought her a lot of stress. Gradually, she became inclined to rely on Amber.

“I’m sorry, Gem. I hurt you. There’s iodine and gauze around. Take care of your wound first.” Luneth tried her best to keep her sanity.

She wanted to talk to Amber after the latter had done treating her wound. Grady was her treasure, but Amber was Benjamin’s treasure. If Benjamin found out that she had injured his daughter’s face, he might not let her off the hook so easily.

‘Don’t worry about me. It’s just a scratch.” Amber sat beside the vanity table and used the iodine and gauze to treat her wound. “This kind of wound will heal in three days. It’s fine. I’m that Grady’s wound is the same. It’s not as horrible as you’ve imagined it. Stop scaring yourself. Just forget about this incident and let it go.”

“Just forget about it?”

Luneth fell into a daze when she heard Amber’s words. She glanced at Amber darkly before letting out a twisted laugh. Then, she shook her head.

“No, I can’t let it go just like that! Grady was hurt. How can I call myself a mother if I let it go like that? I must make the two people who hurt Grady pay dearly!”

Luneth’s expression shocked Amber. She subconsciously swallowed and asked, “Well, how will you handle it?”

*I told Mateo to lock them up. When Grady’s condition stabilizes, I’ll make them pay!” Luneth’s eyes shone with fury and vengeance, and she gnashed her teeth. “They hurt Grady, so I’ll give them a taste of their medicine! I won’t break their limbs or cut off their tongues. I’ll just cut their foreheads and tear off their scalps! What do you think?”

“You want to… tear off their scalps?” Terror gripped Amber when she heard Luneth’s plan. An awkward laughter escaped her. “Isn’t that too ruthless? If they didn’t do it on purpose, I don’t think you should make such a bloody scene.”

“Bloody?” Luneth disagreed and sneered, “Isn’t that the rule of our fort? If I tell Macsen or Benjamin, I’m afraid it won’t be as simple as that. The two women might even get killed. Do you believe that?”

“Yes, I do.” Amber sighed helplessly. She recalled how people were punished in the fort for making mistakes-it was more horrible than tearing off their scalps. In a certain aspect, Luneth was considered gentle.

However, Luneth’s gentleness wasn’t something Flossie and Leia could withstand. Amber would never allow Luneth to go through with that.

After some contemplation, Amber bit the bullet and kept on dissuading Luneth. “Aunt Luneth, I think you’d better give that idea up.”

Immediately, Luneth became vigilant. “Why’s that?”

*From what I understand, they come with special identities. I heard their background is powerful. If you want to tear off their scalps, I fear the people on their side won’t let us off. They’ll want revenge.”

Amber knew Luneth feared Macsen the most, so she added slowly, “Whether they can defeat us or not isn’t the issue. If they come after us, Dad and the others will learn about this. Uncle Macsen will find fault with you…”

“You’re right…” Luneth frowned, her face a solemn yet conflicted expression. “I don’t want to forgive the two women, but I don’t want Macsen to learn that Grady was hurt. I might suffer too. What should I do?”

“Well, Grady’s fine. Let’s forget about this. After all, they won’t stay here for long. Just let it go!” Amber tried to persuade Luneth again.

*So, we should just let it go?” Luneth frowned, looking reluctant. Unfortunately, she was out of her wits and didn’t know what else to do. “Looks like I have to suffer in silence…”

When Luneth finally yielded, Amber quietly heaved a sigh of relief.

‘It’s fine. We’ll be careful from now on. We can’t let Grady play with weapons anymore. It’ll scare others and he might hurt himself. It’s bad!”

When Amber exited Luneth’s room, it was already late at night.

Liam and Mateo were still drinking. There were large pieces of beef and mutton on the table, with charcoal burning brightly underneath it.

The two seemed like close buddies who could talk about anything while enjoying drinks. In truth, their voices were fierce and each was trying his hardest to put the other down.

Liam casually twirled the wine glass in his hand and asked Mateo coldly, “So, you won’t stop until you marry Gem?”

“Not just that.” Mateo tore off a drumstick and bit into it, then cracked a cunning sneer. “Marrying Amber is always in my plans. I’ll marry her even if you’re not involved. Tonight, I want to talk to you about the few territories in your hands.”

‘The territories in my hands?” Liam frowned. Initially, he was confused-then, he understood it and chuckled.” What territories? I just work for Mr. Jenkins. The territories we took in belong to him. You’d better ask them from him instead of me. That’s more straightforward.”

When Liam and Amber decided to fake their marriage, Benjamin focused on training Liam. In the process, he gave Liam a lot of power and authority.
