Chapter 857 – A Second Chance with My Billionaire Love

Although that excuse sounded weird, it meant that Halston wasn’t a scumbag who had no integrity.

Back then, they were unrelated. Of course they wouldn’t get entangled with each other.

The more they thought about this, the more mysterious it seemed.

“So?” Leia frowned. She insisted on criticizing Halston to make Flossie forget about him. “Back then, he pretended to be with Jessanna for his brother’s sake. But nobody knows his mind. Maybe he has long fallen in love with his sister -in-law. Maybe he likes a thrilling romance. He might find his marriage with Flossie too dull, so he wanted to have some fun with Jessanna. As time went by, he fell in love with Jessanna and wanted to break up with Flossie… I think this logic works. There’s nothing to be suspicious about. Stop seeing Halston as a good guy! You should stop having such a good impression about him.”

Based on Leia’s limited dating experience, there was another method to forget about someone other than letting time do its work or finding a new lover-and that was by not seeing the best in the person.

One needed to see what kind of demonic bastard they had fallen in love with. When they did, they would forget about that bastard and wouldn’t be heartbroken.

When Leia was bewitched by Xavier, she kept looking at the ugly photos that she took of him and kept seeing him as an ugly man. She also imagined him spending time with other women or Shirley. As she did so, she found that she had stopped loving him.

“You can quickly forget about your failed romance with time and a new lover. You can also do so by stopping yourself to see the best of him. Trust me, it’ll work!” Leia said casually, patting Flossie’s shoulders.

Leia felt that she could adapt to the situation better than Flossie when it came to these things. She hoped that she could influence Flossie, so Flossie would suffer less bitterness in love.

“Did you forget about him?” Flossie smiled. “When you were madly in love, you weren’t very rational either. Of course, an outsider can see things better than the party involved. No one can help me to forget about Halston except myself. Nothing else will work.”

‘Fine. I admitted it, you’re right.” Dispirited, Leia recalled how she tried to drown her woes because of Xavier. She didn’t have it easier than Flossie.

At the very least, Flossie remained calm even if no one could confirm whether she had truly let go of Halston or not. She was much stronger than Leia.

“It’s not that I can’t forget about him. I just don’t want to be fooled.” Flossie’s face darkened.

She looked at Liam and said, “I think the same way. I don’t think he’d cheat on me so easily. Plus, he might not feel anything for Jessanna. Halston and I overcame all obstacles-we should have been together, but he chose to push me away by being with Jessanna. There must be something fishy!”

‘No, there’s nothing fishy. You can’t forget about him. You’re just lying to yourself!” Leia said. She had hit the nail on the head, pointing out Flossie’s exact issue.

However, Liam didn’t elaborate on that topic. He looked at Flossie, feeling rather sorry for her. “You guys went through a lot just to visit me. Get some good rest. If Amber’s marrying Mateo, I’m afraid I have a tough battle to fight.”

Liam knew Benjamin well. He had been an ordinary man who worked hard to gain his current power and status. Aside from his wisdom and his luck, he was vicious. The moment he thought that Amber had let Liam go, he wouldn’t hesitate to kill Liam to prevent any trouble.

Liam didn’t mind if he survived it or not. However, he would never easily admit defeat if it might burden Flossie and Leia.

“Is he that scary?” Leia asked.

She was a naive simpleton from the upper elite circle, ignorant of life’s hardships, with romance being the only exception. She couldn’t imagine how terrible people could be, and even thought that Benjamin was quite nice.

“You made Amber’s father sound like he’s a horrible guy, but I think he’s not bad. He didn’t drive us out. Plus, he got us a nice room and a doctor to treat Flossie’s leg. He’s welcoming us sincerely.”

Benjamin’s servants gave them new clothes, toiletries, and special delicacies in just a day. The servants also held a welcome ceremony for Flossie and Liam. Although Benjamin didn’t appear, his warm hospitality was evident.

From this alone, Leia felt that Benjamin wasn’t as horrible as Liam had claimed.

“Hah! He did a good job-on the surface. You’ll know in the future,” Liam snorted.

He recalled how kind Benjamin had been when he first came here by accident. The man had even regarded him as a foster son. He naively assumed that Benjamin admired him and wanted to befriend him.

However, Benjamin would turn hostile the second his interests were in jeopardy.

After that day, everything was peaceful.

Both Flossie and Leia stayed in the fort comfortably. Occasionally, Amber and Liam would come to spend some time with them. No one tried to find fault with them.

After professional treatment, Flossie’s leg almost recovered and the wound started to form a scab. She could now get out of bed and walk around.

“We’ll get out of here once your leg recovers,” Leia said eagerly as she applied the scar removal cream on Flossie’s wound. “Why don’t we go traveling before leaving? Draty, the god of their religion, is popular here. There are a lot of amazing stone carved statues. The customs here are pretty interesting too.”

“I hope we’ll get the chance,” Flossie said calmly.

In truth, she wasn’t very happy. An uneasy feeling kept troubling her. Everything ran so smoothly, it gave her a feeling that something bad was about to happen.

‘I’m sure we will in a few days.” Leia laughed.

She finished applying the cream, then helped Flossie get out of bed.

‘The weather’s nice today. Let’s go take a walk. We’ve been here for so long, but we didn’t even get out of the gate. I want to look around,” she added.

“Sure. I’ll go with you.”

Flossie felt guilty, she knew it must be boring for Leia to take care of her.

That, and she wanted to roughly familiarize herself with the fort. If she fell out with Benjamin, she could prepare beforehand and come up with possible countermeasures.

As Flossie and Leia exited the room, they realized how large the fort was. Most of the houses there were cottages, simple and primitive. It was an independent tribe removed from the civilized modern world.

Flossie noticed professional bodyguards doing their rounds in the fort every few distances. They resembled armed soldiers, with rifles and knives on them, serving Benjamin the tyrant.

The rumors about The Triangle were real. Government superiors couldn’t meddle in the fort’s affairs. Those who held the real power were people like Benjamin, who was a local tyrant with a personal militia.

Based on the current situation, it would be a piece of cake for Benjamin to kill the three of them if he so wished.

No wonder Liam underwent such a vast change! Any normal person would end up abnormal after living in such a stressful place. People could only survive here by being cold-hearted, aloof, and fierce.

*Flossie, look! There are lots of banana trees here! The bananas seem ripe. Wow, it’s my first time seeing a banana tree full of bananas!”

Leia, being a laid-back person, didn’t feel that she was staying anywhere stressful and dangerous. She failed to notice the armed bodyguards, who were almost everywhere. Rather, what caught her eye were the banana trees and their seemingly ripe bananas.

“Yeah, there are a lot of them,” Flossie agreed calmly. She observed her surroundings attentively, hoping she could roughly memorize the layout of the fort.

The people in the fort looked lazy and free, but they were in truth orderly and neat. The ordinary villagers stayed with the armed mercenary soldiers. Children ran around in zip-up clothes, playing with damaged grenades and landmines instead of cars or dolls.

From another perspective, everyone in the fort was a soldier even if they were only a few years old or just children. It was horrible-if Flossie, Leia, or Liam fell out with Benjamin, anyone could be their enemy!

‘Let’s go get some bananas to eat. I’ve never picked bananas!” Leia said excitedly.

She was behaving so cluelessly-all she could see were the bananas. She dragged Flossie to the banana trees ahead of them to pick some bananas.

Leia didn’t really want to eat the bananas. She just wanted to have some fun and kill her boredom.

When she reached the banana trees, she found a pregnant woman with a child around four to five years old, looking up to pick the bananas too. A few more children were jumping under the trees, talking in a language Flossie and Leia couldn’t understand. When they saw Flossie and Leia, they giggled.

“Kids, do you want bananas? I’ll pick them for you!” Leia offered.

The children were wearing shabby clothes without shoes. They were smiling innocently, giving Leia the impression that they were smiling at her and Flossie. She concluded that the children must like them very much and welcome their presence.

Hence, she greeted them amiably.

*Come! Come!”

One of the children, who had big eyes, waved at Leia enthusiastically, wanting to lead her to someplace interesting.

‘Little boy, where are you taking me to?” Leia wasn’t on guard with the child; she took his hand without hesitation and walked forward.
