(Scarlett)
I sat beside my daughter’s crib before the door opened, revealing Alexander.
He got down on his knees in front of me without saying a word.
He took my hands in his, gently squeezing them as he brought them to his l*ips. “I know that you’re very angry with me. But you need to try and understand me, Scarlett.”
I stayed quiet as I avoided looking at him. His tone was too defeated for my liking, and I didn’t know whether he was being honest or was lying, but I knew that I would give up to him if he proceeded the way that he was.
“Everything is too h*ard for me to cope with, Scarlett. I know that you might not understand this, not from my side, but…”
“If anyone understands what it feels like to have nothing, it is me, Alexander.” I said, stopping him. His eyes widened in surprise at my tone, and despite trying to pull my hands away, he tightened his grip around them. “I have not only lost everything, but I was fooled into thinking that I had nothing, and by people who pretended to care for me.”
“And I give you my word that I won’t let it pass without getting whatever they took from you. But right now, I am going through a lot more than I can handle…”
“What is it that you’re going through that has you treating your wife like some slave the way that you did? The man f*ucking respected the two of us enough and was kind enough to invite us here when everyone is looking to kill us…”
“He didn’t do it for free, Scarlett. If anything, he is getting what he wanted and helping us is nothing compared to what he got.” He said, making me frown in confusion. “If I ever do get the pack back, he is still going to be my Alpha, and that was the deal that he wanted.”
“I’m sorry, what?” I asked, trying to process what he was saying. He avoided looking at me, and I shook my head as I cupped his cheeks, making him look at me. “Alexander, what do you mean that he is going to be your Alpha?”
“I gave up the territory to save both you and Anastasia,” he said, making my heart drop. “I am going to be the pack of my Alpha and my ground. But he would be taking everything else. The whole territory would belong to him.”
“Alex…”
“I would have lost the two of you, and that is not something that I could have handled.” He said, avoiding my eyes despite the fact that I had my hands on his cheeks. His eyes teared up, and I couldn’t help but feel a clench in my c*hest before I wrapped my arms around him, hugging him tightly. He didn’t say a word before I got off the chair and sat on the floor by his side. I pulled him to lay his head on my shoulder and he wrapped his arm around me, wanting to weaken. It was very rare and h*ard for Alexander to let his walls down, it was something that I knew. But I was the only one who have seen them dropping before, and he knew that he didn’t have to worry about letting me through them.
“The two of us are going to solve this somehow, Alexander. But this doesn’t deserve you being as upset as you are right now.” I said, and he frowned in confusion as he pulled away to look me in the eye. I wiped his tears from his cheeks and he closed his eyes, wanting to shy back before I shook my head and ran my finger over his cheekbone. “You and I are mates, and just like you’re the one person that I would be more than willing to trust breaking in front of, I expect the same from you, Alexander.”
“I am left with nothing but my name, and a…”
“I fell in love with the man carrying the name, not the title behind the barriers.” I said, stopping him. “I understand that you’re watching things crumble, but you of all people should know that a phoenix burns before growing stronger and more beautiful than it had been.” He kept his eyes on mine, studying my expression before he connected his l*ips with mine in a gentle k*iss. I was quick to return the k*iss, momentarily dropping whatever we argued about to be his support. It was something that I wanted him to keep in mind.
Regardless of our arguments, just like I wanted him to be my support. I was going to be his.
“Whatever is happening now is only for us to grow stronger. Whether it is as a couple or as a pack member who we were going to assemble.” I said, my tone softening. “As for losing the territory to Vladimir. I doubt that having it ever did us any good, and IF it did, then we were going to find a way into this bargain. For now, I just want you to stand on your feet, and both your daughter and I need you to regain your strength, and don’t tell me that you are regaining it. You are not, Alexander.”
“There is a lot that we’re dealing with, Scarlett. It would be h*ard…”
“Then let me help you,” I said, stopping the man whose heart raced against his ribcage as he took in my words. I knew that he was well aware of the honest behind them, and that was something that was very important for me. It was something that I wanted him to keep in mind, and that was something that he needed to understand. “I know that it is not how you’re used to dealing with things. And I know that you stopped allowing anyone into whatever it is you’re dealing with since the two of us stopped talking years ago. And don’t try and convince me otherwise. If anyone in this world knows you, Alexander, it is me. And I know for fact that you have built your walls higher than ever. I just want you to try and drop them for me. I am going to be crawling up to reach your side and would be your strength. I just need you to allow me to be.”
“I swear the words I am in love with you will never suffice to what I am feeling toward you right now, my beautiful Luna.” He said, taking me off guard.
“I just hope that I can prove it to you as time goes. I know that I have failed in doing so, but I give you my word that I am going to prove to you how much I’m in love with you. For now, I am just thankful that you’re willing to talk to me.”
“I love you too, Alexander.” I said softly. To say the least, I understood the reason behind the Alpha’s ‘kind’ behavior toward me. Whatever his motives were, I can tell now that he wasn’t being as genuine as I thought that he was, and that fact alone annoyed me more than I could explain. But for now, I wasn’t going to talk about it. We would be able to discuss it when the right time came. We would deal with them one problem at a time, to say the least, we now know where to put our feet as to stand. “Though that doesn’t mean that our initial problem is over. But to say the least, the two of us can try and solve a few things now that we talked about it.”
“I know, baby girl. And I am going to make it up to you, I’m just glad that you’re giving me the chance to do so…”
