I entered the house to frown when I didn’t see my wife anywhere.

The pack members were all downstairs, but my wife was nowhere to be seen.

“She hasn’t left the room since you left, and needless to say, she hasn’t eaten anything throughout the whole day.” Vladimir said, approaching me. “The maids tried to get her something, but she was refusing and kept saying that she would sleep or tend to Anastasia before going to bed.”

I mentally slapped myself before taking a deep breath. “I do hope that you have managed to calm yourself down enough to actually realize that I am not here to hurt either one of you.”

“You know for fact that an Alpha grows protective over his…”

“That still doesn’t give you an excuse to cross your limits with me.” He said, stopping me. “Go to your mate and fix whatever issue that you two have. You should be thankful that she chose to stick around through all the bullshit that you two went through. I know that you told me glimpses, but I can tell by just looking at the two of you that you have been through more than whatever you told me.”

I stayed quiet as I looked down at my feet, knowing that the Alpha was right. These were supposed to be the most memorable days of her life, and instead, I knew that they were the worst.

Whether it was dealing with the issue that my father put her through, or the fact that she was f*orced to accept everything that we were both going through. The information that she found was painful enough as it was, and yet, she was patient enough to listen through and not say a word until everything was somewhat solved. I knew that she was blocking a lot more than she should have been, and that alone was something that I needed to be thankful for. Mostly because I knew for fact that she shouldn’t have been. I knew for fact that I wouldn’t have been as patient as she was being right now. “Thank you for what you are doing, Vladimir.” I said, and the man nodded. I knew that he wasn’t doing this out of ‘good heart’. The man was a Pakhan, and I knew that a price had to be paid for what he was doing, and the price was one that my wife didn’t know of. The price was one that she was not going to like when she found out. But we had no other option. To save her and my daughter, it was a deal that I had to make. Even if it meant giving up my position as Alpha of Alphas where I was to the man. This way, I was going to be the Alpha of my pack alone, but when it came to territory, it belonged to him. It was what he wanted, an expansion to make him the king of Alphas, and it sickened me to admit, but I was coward enough to give it to him. “You don’t need to thank me.” He said, smirking at me. “You know that don’t do charity, and you are paying your due anyway. I just don’t want to see you losing your mate and daughter just like you lost your pack and territory.”

His words were mocking, and it took everything in me to control myself not to burst at the man who smirked at me before he winked. “Go, I do suggest that you get moving before things grow heated again, and believe me, this time, I won’t be as lenient as I was earlier today. And I am going to make sure that everyone sees it.”

I didn’t respond, knowing that we didn’t need the fuss right now. I turned to the stairs and he smiled and nodded, knowing that he got his way. He didn’t, not yet anyway. I knew that I had to find a way to get what belonged to us back again, but for now, the Alpha was right, I needed to fix things between my wife and I.

I knocked on the door twice, knowing that my wife was awake, and was probably already aware of my presence.

She didn’t say a word, not that I expected her to, as I opened the door and walked inside.

Her eyes met mine through the mirror of the dresser as she sat on the chair in front of it before she looked down at whatever it was that she was doing.

I slowly, yet very carefully, approached her before putting both my hands on her shoulders. She tensed and moved away from my grip, not wanting me to t*ouch her before she got up from the chair that she was sitting on. I looked down at what she was doing only to notice that she was staring blankly at the wooden table in front of her. It was a habit that she had whenever she just didn’t want to look at or speak to anyone. And I knew right now that her anger was more or less directed at me.

“Scarlett, I know that you are angry with me, and I know that you don’t want to talk to me…”

“If there isn’t anything important that you are going to tell me, Alpha, then I would like to go and check on my daughter.” She said, stopping me. I tensed and my eyes widened in surprise as I noticed her cold tone. I wrapped my arm around her, turning her around to face me as she moved away from my grip.

“Scarlet, what are you doing?” I asked, shaking my head at her as I cupped her cheeks, making her look me in the eye. “I know that you’re upset with me, but…”

“You are Alpha and I am nothing but a slave to you. An ‘omega’ who you grew used to serving you, or am I wrong?” She asked, making my heart drop to my stomach. “The way you spoke to me earlier is something that I am never going to forget, Alpha Alexander.

Regardless of what you are going to try and tell me, I am not some pillow that you can punch before cuddling an hour later before you go to bed. However, that is something that you don’t seem to realize, and for that, I am going to take a step back.”

“A step back?” I asked, clenching my fists as I tried processing what she was saying. “Scarlett, you can’t be serious?”

“We are married and we have a daughter. I am going to fulfill my duties to her as mother, and toward you as a husband. As for trusting you, that depends on you.” She said, taking a deep breath, “but I am well aware that you aren’t stupid enough to think that I still trust or want to look at you.

Therefore, if there is nothing that you want to tell me, I am going to tend to my child…”
