Mac didn’t hesitate for a second longer. He smashed his lips down on to hers and kissed her. He thrust his tongue into her mouth and groaned at her sweetness. His power, and her power, speared through her body, rushing past the block. Fire slowly trickled in, like River’s healing, but Spirit just poured into her. Once again finding home. Araiya started to choke on the power, but Mac held on as long as he could.

But before they realized, someone pulled her from his arms. He had almost given her all of her power back, she was almost full, he just needed one more minute and they both would have been safe. Mac growled at Talon, who snatched her away from his arms.

“If you give it all back, you’re doing the same as River, putting her in jeopardy. While I might be angry, I don’t want her to be killed because you couldn’t hold back.” Talon shook his head as he put her down and walked away.

Terran walked over and gave her a final kiss. One on the forehead and one on the lips. “Stay strong, Little Moon, we are coming.”

“Isn’t this just precious.” A voice came from outside. A slithering sound could be heard along with foot falls. “Did you call your false mates here, little one? Hoping they could save you, or were you giving a final goodbye to them?” The tent which had once been warm grew cold. The light was sucked away and only darkness remained.

“I was saying goodbye. I wanted to see them before I died.” Araiya pulled back her shoulders and shook off the weakness from the transfer. “I needed my mates.”

“Come now little one, you’re going to be my wife, you should know that I am your true mate, don’t you feel the bond?” The steps moved closer to the back of the tent, where everyone was. “I promise I would never betray you like these fools. You would think after losing the All-mother, that they would have learned how to be proper mates. But alas, their idiocy is my own game. They lose a mate, and I gain one.”

“We were never mated to the All-mother,” Terran called out.

“LIAR! Do you think me a fool? Do you think that I do not know the betrayal you three committed?” A slow, dark chuckle rang throughout the area. “Zeph was weak, and honestly stupid if he thinks I would accept him, after what he has done.”

“What has he done? What has anyone done to you?” Araiya slowly circled, trying to figure out the exact location of the voice.

“In due time, little one, all in due time. I will be there soon enough to take you home.”

Araiya laughed. “I think that Donal took that chance from you.” The steps halted, and a long growl came from the thing outside. It sounded like the growls she had heard from her men, but it was deeper, bigger sounding, but also not right. Like something was wrong. Like he was Dracoy, but not.

“What?” The question slithered out, and everyone shuddered.

“This was the last chance to see my mates, to say goodbye. Donal has been ‘teaching’ me my lessons like you requested. Only he’s been using a metal tipped whip. My back is shredded. But he played too much. He pushed his luck and when I pushed, he flinched. His guard ran me through with his sword. I am on my death bed, Darkness.” Araiya chuckled as she felt all of her men and Talon suck in a breath. “So, you see, no matter how you look at it, everyone loses a mate, including you.”

The roar that ripped through the sky was deafening. The darkness was choking, and everyone inside the tent fell as it collapsed on them. A second roar ripped, and blood started to flow from Araiya’s ears. Everyone was screaming her name, and before she could call out, the dream scape shattered.

Araiya walked up the hill to the waiting Goddess.

“I didn’t think I would see you again so soon after I spoke with your mate, child.”

“I didn’t think I would end up here with you. But I guess I have a question.”

“A question?” Araiya nodded as she sat down at the feet of the Goddess. The Goddess, surprising Araiya, sat next to her and wrapped her arms around her shoulders. “What guidance do you need from me, that you don’t already know?”

“How am I going to survive this?” Araiya choked out. “Do I have the option of going back? Should I go back? What happens if I don’t? I am so very tired.”

The questions tumbled out of her soul, pulling the last truth.

Araiya was tired.

Tired in her very soul. How much abuse is someone supposed to survive? Her life was just an open wound of abuse, with the tiny balm of love she has felt from the small few. It helped, but does the love balance the scales? Not so far. She would need a lifetime of love, several lifetimes of love, to balance the abuse and scars on her very soul.

“Precisely.”

“What?” Araiya turned to stare into the Goddess eyes.

“You said it yourself. You would need a lifetime, several lifetimes of love, to balance your scales. If you stay here, there is no chance of balance. If you go back, as it is a choice for you, you will have the chance. To balance your scales. To save to realm.”

“To save the realm?”

“Come, child. You know war is coming. It has been brewing on the horizon for hundreds of cycles. Soren has shown you that.”

“Soren…you know of my dreams.”

“Of course. I am of spirit just as she was. Just as you are. Spirit is at its core, the element of life. Of the beginning and the end. Spirit is the essence of myself in your realm. I created the land, the realm, and with it, my power flows through it. Moves with it. Grows with it. You and Soren are the wielders of a sliver of my soul. Gifted from my heart to yours.”

“Why me?”

“That I cannot explain. Spirit moves where it feels it is needed. And it knew you would have need.”

“I have need, but I no longer wield it. Mac does,”

The Goddess laughed. “Foolish girl, do you think that spirit would abandon you? That the most alive element would be able to be stolen? No, my dear girl.”
