Although she had suddenly received negative press, and the public’s reaction to it had been mixed, Emma didn’t let any of it affect her mood. She changed into a Bohemian-style maxi dress and relaxed on the deck of a yacht with Eric, who was wearing a casual white suit. All she brought with her was a camera; even her phone was left behind in the drawers of the villa.

Eric looked down at her as he wrapped her in a warm embrace. At first, he thought she was forcing herself to stay strong, but then he realized Emma was truly calm, as if she hadn’t completely stripped herself of her identity as a model.

“Do you really not want to go home first?” he asked.

“Why do we need to leave so soon?” she asked, looking up at him. “Mr. Roberts, did you think I would just give up on the vacation? I made you work so hard for my career is important, but right now, you are more important.”

He gazed at her and then planted a kiss on her lips. “Don’t feel burdened,” she said. “Have faith in me. I will find a solution.” He nodded before grabbing the back of her head and deepening their kiss.

Amid the beautiful scenery of the Sand River, the couple indulged in a passionate moment as their bodies wrapped around each other. In that moment, the king of the entertainment industry and the outdated model no longer existed. They were simply a husband and wife strolling through the streets of France hand in hand.

As they walked, they happened to come across a small alley filled with couples who were kissing. They were stunned for a moment before looking at each other and smiling. There was no trace of awkwardness in their eyes. Although they didn’t have a heart-wrenching love story to tell, it seemed their relationship would still be long-lasting.

The couple continued to wander around and explore the rest of the day. By the time they returned to the villa, Emma’s camera was filled with photos, and Eric’s hands were filled with Emma’s new belongings. But he didn’t mind because this was a rare moment of relaxation for him, and he felt extremely fortunate for it.

“This amazing woman,” he thought. “Because of her, it feels like my life finally has meaning.” That night, he held her in his arms in their huge bathtub. They closed their eyes to enjoy the peace and quiet of a moment. After being silent for a while, Eric reached out his hand and stroked Emma’s wet hair, bringing her head closer to his.

“Let’s return tomorrow,” he said.

“Huh?” Emma said, slowly opening her eyes. “One day is enough for me,” he continued. “I know what kind of situation you’re in, and since you won’t let me interfere, I’m really worried about you, Miss Miller. Don’t you know I’m a fan of yours?”

Emma had earned her status in the industry, so it was important to him that she didn’t lose it. She’d worked so hard and given so much of herself to reach this point in her career, and he didn’t want her to let it all go to waste. She looked at him.

“You know what they say,” she said. “The number of people who like you is always equal to the number of people who hate you. For each person who adores you, there’s another one who wants to see you get humiliated, Eric. I’m well aware of how this works.”

He hugged her tightly without saying a word. Later, after she’d fallen asleep, he got up to call Luke.

“Have you found out who released the information?” he asked.

Luke was ready with the answer. “It was H World’s manager, Ariadne Clark Sanders. Her younger sister is the H World model who was originally invited to walk in the luxury show, but she was replaced with Miss Miller. Then Global added fuel to the fire by spreading some false rumors.”

Eric sighed. “Since it’s H World, we’ll leave it be for now. As for Global, he thought, their days are numbered.”

He knew that once Emma was signed with H World, she would have plenty of opportunities to teach these self-righteous people a lesson. Besides, Emma’s ultimate goal at the moment was to completely defeat Nathan and Amber. By holding back, she would make them doubt themselves.

Emma had predicted that Eric would call Luke about the situation, and she woke up from her nap when she heard him on the phone. She sat up and wrapped her arms around his waist. “Are you not going to listen to anything I say?” she asked.

“I’m just trying to get some information to put my mind at ease,” he said, smiling.

“Mr. Roberts, I think you must not be tired enough yet,” she whispered softly into his ear. Her nose brushed the back of his neck, sending tingles down his spine. The passion in his body was ignited. “Come on,” he said, “let’s do some exercise in bed.”

Late that night, Nathan woke from his sleep with a frustrated look on his face. He walked down the hall to the guest bedroom and saw Amber lying asleep under the glow of the moonlight. The thought of her sleeping with another man had filled his heart with hatred.

The news about Emma using men to advance her career was spreading like wildfire online. And at the same time, he just caught Amber cheating. He hesitated for a moment before reaching for Amber’s phone to see what messages Mark had sent her.

Mark had asked her to calm Nathan down while he tried to find a way to free her from his control. They then scrolled down to read Amber’s response, and what he saw crushed him. “He actually wants to keep the child,” she’d written. “I’m not even sure who the child will look like when it’s born.”

Nathan clenched his fists in rage. Then he quietly saved Mark’s number in his own phone. Rather than waiting around to be dumped and used like a stepping stone, he decided he would spare himself the humiliation by trading Amber for something more useful. So when he got back to his bedroom, he called Mark and said, “I’ll let Amber go on one condition.”

Mark smiled. He’d been waiting for Nathan to confront him. “Go ahead,” he replied.

“Anytime you’re judging a competition or show and an artist from Global is there, you need to guarantee them an award.”

Mark was silent for a moment before bursting into laughter. “It’s just Amber,” he said. “As if I would do something like that for her.”

“Unless… unless what?”

“How about you add in Emma? At first, I thought she was pure and clean, but turns out she’s just another cheap model who uses men to advance her career. So if that’s the case, why don’t you let me play with her? I can give her some benefits. You want Emma too?”

Nathan’s voice was getting louder and more aggressive. “Both women have betrayed you, Nathan,” Mark said. “You might as well give them to me and receive some good opportunities for your new models in exchange.”

Nathan’s chestnut-colored eyes were filled with hatred. “So not only did this old sleaze bag sleep with Amber,” he thought, “but he also has his eyes set on Emma.”

At the Bright Night Gala, Eric’s presence had frightened him, so he’d been careful not to make a move. But now that he knew Emma used men to her advantage, he no longer felt like he had to hold back.

“Deal,” Mark asked. “Words mean nothing. We need to sign an agreement.”

Nathan said, worried that Mark was lying to him. “That’s fine with me,” Mark said. “Let me know where you want to meet.”

Nathan’s voice had been echoing from the bedroom, waking Amber. At that moment, she was leaning against the door, listening to the conversation without making a sound. She didn’t know that Nathan had sold her off. The only thing she’d heard clearly was Emma’s name.
