Old Lawyer Watts glanced at his wife and followed suit.

“Mrs. Watts, are you okay?” asked Grace when she looked at Mrs. Watts’s red eyes.

“It’s n-nothing. I just think it’s a pity that your father-in-law… died so young,” murmured Mrs. Watts.

“My father-in-law loved my mother-in-law too much. He lost the will to live after losing the person he loved. Maybe death was a relief for him,” Grace said with a sigh. However, her father-in-law had left his pain to the living to bear.

“How… How did he die?” muttered Mrs. Watts.

“He froze to death by the roadside. That’s when Jay came back to the Reed family holding my father-in-law’s ashes, “said Grace.

Mrs. Watts turned pale and wobbled a little.

Old Lawyer Watts immediately grabbed his wife. “What’s the matter? Are you feeling sick?”

“Yeah, I feel a little sick. I… I want to go back to the hotel and rest,” said Mrs. Watts.

“I’ll ask the driver to take you back to the hotel,” said Grace as the three walked out of the mourning hall.

When Old Lawyer Watts and his wife got back to the hotel, Mrs. Watts could not stop her tears and began crying her eyes out.

Old Lawyer Watts sighed too. Today was the first time he saw what that man looked like!

He could have inherited the Reed family and stood at the apex of Emerald City’s power and wealth, yet he died in such a way.

“It’s my fault. It’s all my fault!” As if unable to contain the pain, Mrs. Watts finally shouted, “I did Kim wrong. If I hadn’t left at the time, Kim wouldn’t have died! I killed him!”

Old Lawyer Watts did not know how to comfort his wife and only patted her on the shoulder.

“He froze to death… A man like him ended up freezing to death. Milo, I never thought he would freeze to death!” sobbed Mrs. Watts.

For years, she had been speculating about the cause of his death but she never expected it to be this!

“It was because of me. It was because of me! If I hadn’t abandoned him and Jay, he wouldn’t have made this choice. I was corrupted with greed. I was ruthless!” Mrs. Watts kept pounding her chest. The delicate makeup on her face became streaked with tears.

“If he knows how sorry you feel, he’ll forgive you,” said Old Lawyer Watts.

“No, Kim won’t forgive me. He won’t forgive me…” Mrs. Watts said with agony.

She once thought she would never return to Emerald City or set foot in the Reed family’s house again.

However, she eventually learned that Jason was the husband of Grace, who was her husband’s apprentice. The small child who had called her ‘Grandma’ for more than two years was her biological granddaughter! After finding out about everything, she could not contain the longing in her heart anymore.

She wanted to see her son and her two other biological grandchildren whom she had never met.

Her heart was filled with unspeakable bitterness from the moment she stepped into the Reed family’s house.

She had once tried every means possible to join the Reed family but could only sneak into Reed Residence without Old master Reed’s knowledge.

She used Kim’s feelings as a bargaining chip to enter Reed Residence. However, she underestimated the old master’s cruelty, which eventually killed Kim and hurt her!

“He’ll forgive you. If he loved you that much, he’d hate for you to be so miserable,” said Old Lawyer Watts as he gently hugged his wife.

She had her right hamstring cut, and she was disfigured when he first met her, but he was strangely attracted to her.

They had been married for 20 years now. On the day he married her, she told him all about her past, but he still insisted on marrying her.

 He knew she felt indebted to two people-her ex-husband and her son.

However, she never revealed who her husband and son were.

She only told him that her husband was Kim and her son was Jason when they came to Emerald City!

“Once we cure your leg, we’ll go home. No matter how upset or remorseful you are, don’t give yourself away in front of Jason. I want you to be safe, got it?” said Old Lawyer Watts.

Mrs. Watts looked at her husband of 20 years with tears in her eyes. “Milo, I’m sorry to make you worry so much about me. If Jason resents and hates me, I’m willing to take it. I won’t involve you.”

“We’re married. You’re making me a stranger by saying such things. They won’t know if we don’t tell them. Jason didn’t recognize you when he met you, did he? Once you undergo the operation on your leg, we’ll return to L City and never set foot in Emerald City again,” said Old Lawyer Watts.

The secret would forever remain a secret!

Grace told Jason about what had happened in the mourning hall at night. “Would you be upset if I let my mentor and his wife offer incense to your father and Old master Reed in the mourning hall?”

Jason asked, “They’re your mentor and your mentor’s wife. Why would I be upset? But why did you take them there?”

“I was taking them for a walk around the main house to help with digestion but we happened to walk past the mourning hall. Mrs. Watts said she would like to go in to see Dad and offer incense to him,” said Grace.

Jason frowned slightly, “Was it Mrs. Watts who offered to do so?”

“Yeah, Mrs. Watts’s eyes were red when she offered the incense. She said she wasn’t feeling well, so I arranged a driver to take them back to the hotel,” she said.

“Your mentor’s wife is so sensitive that she started tearing up when offering incense,” Jason said thoughtfully.

Grace said with a sigh, “It’s probably because Dad died young. Speaking of which, Mrs. Watts has had a hard life too.

Today, I learned that the reason she can’t walk normally is that she had her hamstring cut before. It’s not just because of the joint injury that was caused in the accident she was involved in.”

Jason instantly stiffened. “She had her hamstring… cut before.”

“Yeah. Dr. Russell said it’s because it didn’t heal properly of the time, so it became harder to walk as she got older,” said Grace.

As she spoke, she saw Jason’s face turning paler and paler. She said, “What’s come over you? Are you okay?”

“I…” He drew a long breath, raised his hand to rub his temples. “Go to bed first. I suddenly remember that I have some unfinished business to attend to. I’ll work on them in my study.”

With that said, he hurried out of the room and into the study.

Jason instantly closed the study door and leaned his back against it as soon as he walked in.

He recalled the conversation with Secretary Wang in the detention center. At that time, Secretary Wang had also mentioned one thing… “By the way, Young Master, haven’t you been looking for your mother? Here’s a tip.
