The doctor mistook Anthony Sherman as the father of the baby in Lina’s belly.
Before Anthony Sherman could explain, Lina said to the doctor, “He’s not the baby’s father, so I can make my own decision. Doctor, please arrange an abortion for me!”
Seeing that Lina was resolute, the doctor said, “Okay, I—”
“I’m the baby’s father. What if I disagree with the operation?” A voice interrupted the doctor and rang out in the ward.
A tall figure appeared in the ward the next second.
Lina stared blankly at Hadwin Stephenson, who was walking toward her. He was wearing a simple white shirt and black trousers. His hair was slightly messy, and his shirt collar was not folded properly. It was obvious he had hurried over.
Hadwin Stephenson looked at the person lying on the hospital bed. When he woke up in the morning, he wanted to call her and tell her that they could finally be together now. He wanted to tell her everything that had happened that year!
However, he did not expect Anthony Sherman to answer the phone instead. He hurried over when he learned that she was in the hospital because of an accident, but he did not expect to hear her ask for an abortion.
“Why do you not want the baby? If keeping the baby will worsen your injury and threaten your life, then I’ll agree to the abortion without a doubt,” Hadwin Stephenson said word by word. There was also confusion in his eyes. “It’s not like we have to give up the baby right now. As long as we find a better hospital and specialist in tMason Swansonty, we can keep the baby, can’t we?”
Lina bit her lip and said nothing.
“I’ll arrange for a transfer right now!” Hadwin Stephenson took out his phone and was about to make a call when Lina suddenly shouted…
“There’s no need for a transfer. I have the right to decide whether I’m keeping this baby!”
Hadwin Stephenson stiffened as he turned to look at her. “Are you sure you don’t want the baby?”
His eyes were full of shock. It was almost as if he could not believe she was making this decision.
She met his eyes and felt as if invisible thorns were piercing her heart, making it sting.
Her throat was terribly dry, but she clenched her teeth and forcefully spat out the word, “Yes!”
“Why?” he asked. She looked like she wanted to keep the baby before this. Otherwise, why would she take the folic acid he bought her? Why did she schedule a pregnancy check-up?
Lina’s eyelashes quivered slightly, and she felt a bitter taste in her mouth.
‘Why? He’s asking me why? Does he know what it was like for me to spend the whole night outside his mansion? Does he /know what it feels like to be betrayed for the second time?’
“Because I don’t want anything more to do with you!” The words spat out of her mouth.
The air around them seemed to freeze instantly. The pressure around Hadwin Stephenson seemed to drop as the people around him felt terrified.
“Well… you guys can work this out and tell the nurse at the station whether you’re transferring to another hospital or staying here,” the doctor said a little awkwardly before leaving.
Anthony Sherman looked at Lina and Hadwin Stephenson. He had no idea whether he should leave.
“Mr. Stephenson, I have something to tell Lina alone. Please leave,” Hadwin Stephenson said coldly.
“But…”
“Yulai, why don’t you go outside first? There’s something I want to make clear to him too,” Lina said as well.
Anthony Sherman then started to walk toward the door. However, before leaving, he could not help but say to Hadwin Stephenson, “Mr. Stephenson, Lina is suffering from injuries. Please talk to her nicely. Don’t start a fight.”
Hadwin Stephenson ignored Anthony Sherman. He just stared at Lina.
Anthony Sherman sighed and left the ward.
Lina and Hadwin Stephenson were the only ones left in the ward.
“Are you so desperate to cut ties with me that you won’t even keep the baby?” His cold voice suddenly rang in the room.
“Yes,” she said after taking a deep breath.
“Is it because of what happened back then? Is it because I
broke up with you when you were seriously injured, so you won’t give me a chance now?” he asked.
“Since we’ve broken up, there’s no need for us to get back together. The baby will only be a burden,” she said.
Pain flickered in his eyes. What about all his hopes and expectations…? Did she know how ecstatic he was after learning about her pregnancy? He thought it was a gift from God. God did not shatter his hopes and made them entangled with each other.
However, she now said that what he considered to be a blessing was a burden.
How pathetic and ridiculous!
“But you have feelings for me. You still love me. Why won’t you be with me? I swear I’ll spend the rest of my life protecting you and loving you. I’ll never abandon you!”
“Protect me? Love me? Never abandon me?” Lina suddenly laughed out loud. Every time she laughed, the bruises on her body from the car accident this morning seemed to hurt again. They had been so in love. She always loved it when he kissed her.
His kisses were always gentle and lingering but with a hint of longing.
He made her feel like she was important to him every time he kissed her.
She remembered how she often quipped, “Hadwin Stephenson, do you think we’ll still kiss like this when we’re in our 70s and 80s? Would we be tired of each other and no longer kiss?”
Each time, he would say gently, “We won’t get tired of each other. Lina, I will still kiss you when you’re old. I will always kiss until I close my eyes and leave this world.”
However… she and he would never have that. Not five years ago, not now.
Lina did not resist or struggle but let Hadwin Stephenson deepen the kiss.
It was like a farewell to her-a farewell to the relationship.
When the kiss finally ended, Lina heard Hadwin Stephenson’s hoarse voice say, “Lina, you still love me, don’t you? Do you know how badly I’ve been wanting to kiss you like how I just did?”
After five years, he could finally touch her like this again without the pain of the blood curse.

He stiffened and stared at her. There seemed to be a sense of imploring in his beautiful, deep, and dark eyes. “Lina, would you forgive me if I told you I did that to save your life and let you live?”
Lina looked at Hadwin Stephenson calmly. “You’re not the one who protected my life but Grace. If it hadn’t been for Grace, my family would have had to sell our house to pay for my surgery, not to mention the expensive fee from staying in the ICU!”
