I could hear the torment in his voice and knew some of what the history of his family was, so I was trying to have an open mind. My wolf, Zeus, was having a harder time in the understanding department. “Can we approach her?” I heard Liam ask, and Rebecca took his hand and led him to her bedside. I followed behind them, moving slower than the other two. I don’t know why I was hesitant, but there was a fear there I couldn’t explain. Jason got chairs for us all, and we sat on each side of her hospital bed. Talking silently amongst ourselves, we were startled by the sound of the door opening.

“Alpha’s, I’m thankful you are here. I need to speak with you privately about the girl.” He said, without even acknowledging our sister or her mate. Jason stood up and asked what it was about, that he was her brother, and demanded answers. Dr. Flores looked at both Liam and I, and asked for us to go outside for privacy. Jason flew off the handle and Liam had to calm him down. He sat back down with his mate and me and Liam followed the doctor outside into the hall.

“Why the privacy doc? He is her brother. You could have spoken to all of us,” I said. He hung his head and said that he wanted to speak to us first because he wanted to be positive that it wasn’t Jason who did this to her. We reassured him that it wasn’t him, but others in his family. Although we weren’t entirely sure what exactly happened. Nodding his head, he motioned for us to go back into the room. Upon entering, he apologized to Jason and explained why he had to do what he did, and Jason understood. He pulled up a chair, and proceeded to explain the extent of her injuries.

“Well, I don’t know how to explain it all gently, please bare with me, this is going to be hard to hear.” he started. He took a sip of his coffee and continued, “Alpha’s, Mr. Carter, she has extensive damage to her ribs and sternum. She will need reconstructive surgery on her arm and ankle. Her wolf isn’t healing her properly and it makes me wonder if she has received her wolf at all. Mr. Carter, would you know if she has?” Jason explained that she had only been 18 for less than 2 hours, and with her being unconscious he highly doubted she had. “That would explain a lot of why she isn’t healing the way she should. Unfortunately, this means she will need to be taken into surgery for repairs to her leg and arm, as well as her sternum. There isn’t much we can do for the cracked ribs other than allow them to heal. Here is the hard part. Mr. Carter, do you know if your sister is or was a virgin?” His mouth dropped and he stammered over his words.

“Um…sh..she definitely has never had sex before. She wasn’t allowed anywhere alone other than school.” he explained. The doctor wiped his face with his hands and looked at Rebecca. “Rebecca, it looks as if your concerns were warranted. She was not only raped vaginally, but also sodomized. That is something that is also going to have to be repaired due to the tearage of her vagina.” Rebecca started to sob and grabbed our mate’s hand. Jason and Liam flipped their shit, but I don’t think the fury I felt could be compared to anything. I wanted to kill someone, the someone who did this to her. I didn’t care who it was. Doctor Flores asked us all to calm down, and he didn’t want her to feel the stress from everyone’s anguish. She may be unconscious but she could still feel everyone’s energy. Taking deep breaths, we all composed ourselves. “Doc, is that all?” I asked.

He shook his head and said, “No, there is also the matter of the damage to her face. She has a broken nose, a fractured jaw and a fractured orbital bone. We have a plastic surgeon coming tomorrow to do those repairs. The next several days will be hard ones, but the procedures are necessary. I’m sorry I had to be the bearer of bad news, but I promise you all that we will do our best to help her, however much help she needs. I am also suggesting that she receives psychiatric therapy to deal with the trauma once she is able. Mr. Carter, I think it could also benefit you if you are willing. Sounds like you have both had a questionable upbringing.” He finished. Standing up, he shook our hands and left to tend to other patients and organize the procedures for our mate.

We all sat in silence for a really long time. Jason was the one to break it and asked, “Alpha’s, I would like to take Dr. Flores up on the therapy. I need to have my mind healthy so that I can be the brother she needs.” Liam patted him on the back and told him he would make sure that happened. I lifted my head from my hands and stared at my mate. “What is her name? I heard you say she just turned 18 hours ago, but I didn’t hear her name.” Rebecca put her hand on my back and said, “Melian, her name is Melian. She likes to be called Mel. She is one of the sweetest souls I have ever met. She can also be very stubborn, but is also very timid. She has been through terrible things, Lok, but she is resilient. Once she trusts you, you will never ask for anyone better.” I hugged my sister, thankful she was here with me. I was the one who couldn’t handle emotions well, I was ‘the grumpy one’ according to everyone else. I needed some air, so I pulled from her embrace and walked out without saying a word.

Awake

*Melian POV*

The last thing I remember was Rebecca cleaning me up and washing my hair. During the cleanup, she stopped and questioned my sexual activity. When she said she thought I had been not only raped, but sodomized, I went numb. I could hear her reassuring me that I wasn’t alone, and that we would make the ones who did this to me pay. I started feeling dizzy so I laid down to rest, and next thing I know, I blacked out.

I don’t know how long I have been out, but occasionally I can hear Jason and Rebecca’s voices mixed with 2 other male voices I don’t recognize. I try to open my eyes, but the darkness takes over every time. I can hear them again, and there is another male voice who sounds like a doctor with the way he is speaking. I can barely make out what he is saying, but I catch small pieces here and there. Something about having to have procedures, and that it isn’t going to be an easy recovery since I haven’t met my wolf or shifted. Great. I hear a lot of yelling, and the 2 voices I don’t recognize are angry, but not at me. Jason is yelling too, and Rebecca is trying to calm them all. Why can’t I wake up? Please Moon Goddess, let me wake up.

I drift back into the darkness, only to waken to a soft purple glow. Standing before me was a beautiful goddess-like woman with long silver hair and sparkling blue eyes. Next to her were two beautiful white wolves. One of them had a silver patch of fur over her left eye. Her eyes were emerald green just like my own. “Wh…who are you and what is this place?” I asked. Smiling, she stretched her hands out towards me, beckoning me to place mine in them.

I hesitated before I obliged and she led me to a fallen log under a willow tree. We sat in silence for several moments before I asked her the question I had asked her again earlier. “Melian, my child, my chosen one. I am your Moon Goddess, Selene. I brought you here for a very special reason, dear. You see those two wolves sitting by the pond? Those are two very special wolves, and one of them belongs to you. Her name is Ruby. The other will belong to your first born son, and his name is Franz. Ruby will release a power in you that you didn’t realize you held, but only once you have mated and marked your mates.” she said. “Mates? As in more than one?” I asked.

She laughed and nodded her head. “Yes sweet Melian. You have two mates. They are twins and they will be the ones to always protect you. They are Alpha’s, but do not fear their power, nor fear the love they have for you. You will need a lot of healing, Melian. Please allow them to help you along the way. You can trust them with your life.” she replied.

I stood up and walked slowly towards the pond. Ruby and Franz turned to face me and watched my movements with caution. As I moved closer to Ruby, she also moved closer to me. All at once, she started running towards me and jumped, but instead of jumping at me she jumped into me, causing us to become one unit. It took my breath away, and I gasped for air. I was jolted out of the darkness and into a room where the lights were so bright I could barely see.

“Melian!” I heard my brother yell, and I was instantly surrounded by a group of people. I fell back onto the pillows and my eyes constantly scanned the room trying to figure out what was going on. I motioned to Rebecca to get me water, and she grabbed a bottle off the counter. She helped me take sips slowly, and then kissed my forehead. “Mel, I am so happy to see those beautiful green eyes. You had us so scared.” she whispered. I said sorry to her and she shook her head.

“We will have none of that sweetheart, you have nothing to be sorry for,” she replied. Jason was on the other side of me, just staring with a cheesy grin, trying to hold back tears. “Happy Birthday sis! You woke up just in time.” he said. I just gave him a smirk and closed my eyes for a minute. I heard him yell my name in a panic and I whispered, “Chill, Jay. The lights are bright and are hurting my head. I’m still here.” Him and Rebecca giggled and I heard the door fling open. It was an extremely tall man built like a brick shit house.

“Melian, hello! I am Dr Flores, and I have been the attending doctor for you. How are you feeling?” He introduced himself. “Like I was nearly beaten to death. How do I look?” I playfully answered. Apparently, my joking went over his head and he immediately went into doctor mode. “You look like you feel, but other than that, I would say you look no worse for the wear.” He proceeded to explain to me what I needed to have done, and said there was more that we would talk about once I was feeling better.
