You stood taller than anyone.”

His words warmed me.

“Robert, if.. if I leave this place, would you think I’m running away?” “Running away?” Robert shook his head.

“Choosing a better life is never running away.”

“But..”

“Kathy, do you know what real courage is?” I shook my head.

“Real courage is fighting for your own happiness.”

He looked at me and said, “Even if it means leaving everything familiar behind.”

That evening, I sat alone on my hotel balcony, watching the city lights.

My phone rang.

It was Julian.

“Kathy, the summit’s over.

How do you feel?” “I’m alright.”

“I heard several countries are trying to poach you?” “That’s right,” I admitted, “What are you thinking?” “I haven’t decided yet.”

Julian was quiet for a moment.

“Kathy, If you really want to go, I won’t stop you,” “Minister Wilson..”

“You’re my most outstanding student.

I want you to be happy.”

Julian’s voice choked up slightly.

“No matter where you are, remember you are the best.”

After hanging up, I cried again.

This time, not from pain, but from being moved.

Someone genuinely cared about my happiness.

The next morning, as I was preparing to leave, I ran into Jared in the hotel lobby.

He looked haggard, his eyes bloodshot.

“Kathy, can we talk one last time?” checked my watch.

“Ten minutes.”

We found a quiet corner in the cafe.

“Kathy, I know I messed up.”

Jared said softly, “But can’t we really try again?” “Try what?” “Try starting over.”

He looked at me.

“I can change.”

“Jared, do you think the problem is just that you need to change?” “Isn’t it?” I smiled and said, “No,” “Then what is it?” “We were never right for each other.”

I looked at him.

“For three years, I tried to be the woman you wanted, Gentle, obedient, always supporting you.”

“You were always great..”

“But that wasn’t the real me.”

I cut him off.

“The real me? I have my own career, my own mind, and I’ll never compromise who I am for anyone.”

Jared fell silent.

“And you need a woman who always looks up to you, adores you.

Like Bailee.”

“I know now she’s no good..”

“It’s not that she’s no good.

You’re just better suited for each other.”

I stood up.

“Jared, it’s over.

Let’s end this with some dignity.”

“Kathy..”

“Goodbye.”

I turned and walked away without looking back.

At the airport, l was surprised to see Robert.

“I thought you were staying an extra day?” “Plans changed.”

He walked over, carrying his luggage.

“I’m on your flight.”

“What a coincidence?” “Not a coincidence.”

Robert looked at me.

“It’s an arrangement.”

“What do you mean?” “I requested a transfer back to headquarters.”

His expression was serious.

“And if you don’t mind, l’d like to pursue you.”

I froze, “Pursue me?” “Yes.”

Robert nodded and said, “Formally,” “But I just..”

“Just ended a wrong relationship.”

He interrupted me.

“That’s the perfect time to start a new life.”

As I looked at this strong, determined man, a warm feeling welled up inside me.

“Robert, I’m not sure what I want right now.”

“That’s okay.”

He chuckled and said, “I can wait.”

“What if I go abroad?” “Then I’ll request an overseas posting.”

“What if I move to a new city?” “Then I’ll follow you there.”

His every answer was so firm that it made me laugh.

“Robert, are you sure about this?” “I’ve never been more sure.”

He looked at me.

“Kathy, I admire your professionalism, your strength, and your courage.”

“What if I’m actually vulnerable?” “Then i’ll protect you,” “What if I’m actually really stubborn?” “Then I’ll spoil you,” “What if I’m actually troublesome?” “Then I’ll be there with you.”

Each word was like warm sunlight, thawing my frozen heart.

For three years, no one had ever said such things to me.

“Robert, thank you.”

“Don’t thank me.”

He held out his hand.

“Just give me a chance.

Okay?” I looked at his outstretched hand, hesitating for a moment.

Then, I reached out my own.

“Okay.”

The moment our hands clasped together, I knew a new life had begun.

Three months later, the divorce was officially finalized.

I sat in the law office, watching Jared sign the papers.

His hand trembled slightly.

When he finished, he looked like he’d aged ten years.

“Kathy, are you really sure about this?” he asked one last time.

“I don’t regret it.”

I took my copy of the agreement.

“Jared, I hope you find someone who’s truly right for you.”
