Lina took the report and walked out of the ultrasound room. She read the simple words on the report again and again.
‘Is this… my baby?”
Having a heartbeat meant it was now a human life. Was she going to kill a human life?
Hadwin Stephenson came up to her and asked, “How’s the check-up?”
“It’s alright,” she said as she handed him the report.
He took the report, looked at it, and glanced at her belly. He seemed to want to reach out and touch it but stopped a few centimeters from it. He withdrew his hand.
Lina looked at Hadwin Stephenson in confusion. There seemed to be desire in his eyes, but also repression and restraint!
If he had a desire to touch her belly and feel the little human life, then why was he repressing and restraining it?
After coming out of the hospital, Hadwin Stephenson said to her, “Do you have anything else to do today?”
“No.” She shook her head.
“Then I’ll take you home,” he said and instructed the driver to drive to the Sweeney family’s apartment building.
Lina looked away. She looked at the scenery along the way, but all she was thinking about was how Hadwin Stephenson had waved her hand away today, as well as the look of repression and restraint in his eyes when he had wanted to put his hand on her stomach.
She had no idea what was on his mind!
Sometimes, he seemed to care about her and want to get back together with her. However, he clearly resisted her just now.
He did not even allow her to touch him.
‘In that case, why did he accompany me to the pregnancy check-up?
‘Or… does he only care about the baby? If I lost the baby, maybe he wouldn’t be so nice to me anymore.”
Lina smiled wryly. When did she become so sentimental? She was even undecided whether to keep the baby in her belly.
When the car stopped, she suddenly realized that she was already in her neighborhood.
Lina turned to look at Hadwin Stephenson but found that he had fallen asleep while leaning on the back of the chair.
There was obvious fatigue on his face as he slept. There was a faint shade of bluish-black under his eyes, obviously from a lack of sleep. A few strands of hair fell over his forehead, and his long black lashes made his handsome face look angelic.
He was as good-looking as ever. Perhaps he was even better-looking now!
She would still fall into a daze whenever she stared at him, even after five years!
As if feeling her gaze, his eyelashes quivered slightly and he slowly opened his eyes.
His dark eyes instantly caught sight of her face.
“Lina…” he murmured her name. His voice was hoarse and affectionate.
Her heart could not help trembling.
He slowly raised his hand as if to touch her cheek. However, just as he was about to touch her, the dazed look in his eyes. disappeared. He withdrew his hand and asked indifferently, “Have we arrived at your home?”
“Yes, we have,” she said, feeling a sense of loss that she could not even describe.
‘Why am I feeling this way? Did I wish that he had touched my face?
‘Gosh. Lina, what are you thinking?” She scolded herself!
She quickly turned around, opened the car door, and got out!
Hadwin Stephenson also opened the car door and got out. He stopped in front of her. “Lina, give me a week, okay? I only need seven days. I’ll come look for you again in seven days, I have something important to tell you!”
“Is it about the car’s repair fees?” she asked.
He was stunned and did not seem to get it.
She said, “Didn’t you accompany me to the pregnancy check-up to discuss lowering the repair fees for hitting your car last time? Are you going to discuss it next time since we didn’t discuss it today?”
He showed a sudden bitter smile. “Do you think the important thing between you and me is just the repair fees?”
His bitter smile made her feel as if her heart had been pricked with a needle. It was so uncomfortable and even hurt a little. “Then what is it that’s so important that you can’t tell me now but must do it a week later?”
It was because the blood curse would be gone in a week! If only he could make it through the final session, then he would be able to hold her and kiss her without any pain!
If he did not make it a week later… He had already hired a lawyer, made a will, appointed someone to run Stephenson Group, set up a foundation, and determined that the company’s annual earnings would be transferred to her so that she could live her best life!
“Only one week. Lina, all I’m asking for is another week,” said Hadwin Stephenson.
Lina said unhappily, “What on earth do you want? You’ve been dragging your feet on discussing the car compensation and you keep wanting me to give you time. When a week has pa**ed, will you ask me to give you a few more weeks?”
“Lina, I…”
Just then, a voice suddenly rang out and interrupted Hadwin Stephenson.
“What are you two doing together?”
Lina instantly shuddered upon hearing the voice. ‘It’s… Dad’s voice!’
Lina turned her head around to see her father and mother standing not far away. They were looking at them with shock. Her mother was carrying a basket with many vegetables inside of it.
It was obvious that her parents had just come home from grocery shopping.
“Lina, were you with Hadwin Stephenson when you said you had to go out in the morning for something?” asked Mrs. Sweeney.
Lina blinked and did not know how to explain herself all of a sudden.
“Tell me. What were the two of you doing together so early in the morning?”
“…”‘Should I tell them?’ Lina had a terrible headache now.
‘Am I supposed to tell them Hadwin Stephenson accompanied me to a pregnancy check-up early in the morning?”
Just then, Mrs. Sweeney’s expression changed as if she thought of something. Then, she leaned close to Mr. Sweeney’s ear and whispered something. Mr. Sweeney’s expression changed immediately.
“Let’s go home first! Hadwin Stephenson, you’re coming with us!” said Mr. Sweeney.
Lina was surprised. “Dad, you want him to come home with us?”
“What else? He’s already sent you to the entrance. Shouldn’t you ‘invite’ him home?” Mr. Sweeney said the word ‘invite’ through clenched teeth!
Lina wanted to put up a fight but Hadwin Stephenson simply replied with one word, “Okay.”
“Do… Do you really want to come to my house?” Lina looked at Hadwin Stephenson in shock.
“Since Uncle has invited me, of course, I’ll go,” said Hadwin Stephenson.
