“Baby girl,” I smiled at my daughter who was cuddled in her blanket, wide awake as she looked up at me. There were two maids in her room, both were assigned by Vladimir to help me, and I couldn’t help but feel somewhat grateful for the rest that I managed to get.

The man was sent to us as a miracle, I knew that for fact. “I take it that your little one got enough rest.” His voice broke my train of thoughts as I turned to face him, jumping as I didn’t hear or expect him to be behind me. “My apologies, I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“I didn’t hear you coming, I’m sorry.” I said, and he smiled and nodded.

He looked at Anastasia before his eyes met mine. The room where Anastasia slept in was the one across from mine and Alexander, and though I was initially against her sleeping in a different room in a place that I didn’t know, I was thankful for the rest that even I got. “How are you? Have you managed to settle a bit?” Vladimir asked, and I smiled and nodded.

“Yes, thank you.” I said, smiling at the man who was studying my expression. I was thankful for the fact that I changed my clothes into jeans and a normal shirt earlier this morning. Alexander was still asleep by the time that I was awake; therefore, I chose to take a shower and get dressed before checking on my daughter. “I haven’t thanked you properly for inviting us in on this…”

“You don’t need to thank me, Scarlett.” He said, stopping me. “Your husband is a friend of mine, and I wouldn’t have left him in need when I knew that I could help; therefore, you needn’t worry about thanking me.”

My heart swelled at his words. The fact that there was someone who was genuinely willing to help us in a time like this was something that I couldn’t help but appreciate, especially since I knew that Alexander and I had no one at this point. The two of us were alone, and that was something that we both knew for fact.

“You are very kind,” I said, and he smiled.

“Would you like to get something to eat? You haven’t eaten anything yesterday, and I can assume that you would be hungry. To say the least, you would need food to survive even if you were in too much shock to feel hungry.” He said, and I laughed. He chuckled, and I couldn’t help the blush that formed on my cheeks as my stomach growled. “I stand corrected, you are hungry.”

“It has been a long week, I have to admit that much.” I said, and he chuckled and nodded.

“Well, the dining room is downstairs. You can come down and get something to eat when you’re…”

“My wife and I are going out for breakfast, thank you, Vladimir.” Alexander said, stopping Vladimir who frowned in confusion before he turned to face my husband. I looked at Alexander who was shirtless, wearing sweat pants, and his hair wet as if he’d just walked out of the shower. The two of us didn’t initially have any clothes with us, but we were both thankful when we found out that Vladimir had filled the closet with clothes and most had sizes that would fit. Some were too big, others somewhat small, but it was like he’d gotten them to ensure that we had clothes to wear no matter what the size was.

“I came to check on your wife and daughter, see if they might need anything and if your daughter had a night’s rest. You know, the maids that are taking care of her have been chosen by me, and I wanted to ensure that they have done their job correctly as to ensure that your wife was satisfied.” He said, his tone h*ardening. Alexander glared at the man, and I couldn’t help the frown that formed on my face at my husband’s behavior.

The man was being kind enough to us to allow us to stay at his home when no one wanted us around. If anything, everyone actually wanted us dead, and that was something that he was putting aside to keep us safe. The man could have been risking his own pack’s safety, and yet, my husband was choosing to have an attitude rather than being thankful.

“You can rest assured, if I need anything, I would let you know personally. As for my wife and daughter, it is my duty to take care of them, and I would be making sure of it.” He said, taking me by surprise. “As for your maids, I do believe that you could have waited for me to update you, don’t you think? Though I am surprised at the fact that an Alpha like yourself is concerned about the maids that have been hired for my daughter, but I will let it slide.”

Vladimir stayed quiet for a few seconds before taking a step toward Alexander. “You need to remind yourself that the house and pack that you are staying at are mine. If you don’t like it, then you can choose to f*ucking leave. The one pity would be for your wife and infant who would be dragged into this because you are refusing to respect the fact that you are in another Alpha’s territory.”

Vladimir didn’t give Alexander the time to respond before he turned to leave. The two maids, noticing the tension, walked out, following their Alpha, leaving my husband, daughter, and I alone in the room. “What the f*uck is your problem, Alexander?” I asked, snapping at him. “The man was being kind…”

“Do not f*ucking question me, Scarlett.” He said, stopping me, taking me by surprise. “This is the last time that I see you speaking to him or anyone…”

“I am not your f*ucking slave, and if you think for a f*ucking second that you can speak to me in such a sense, then you are very wrong.” I said, stopping him.

“I am your husband, mate, and Alpha…”

“If you think that that gives you the right to treat me like this, then you can choose to call off the marriage and breaking the bloody bond here and now.” I said, stopping him.

His eyes widened in surprise and I looked at my daughter who whimpered, sensing our change in demeanor. “This is the last time you think you can speak to or treat me in such a way. I am f*ucking done being treated like your slave like you treated me before we mated.”

“Scarlett…”

“Please leave while I feed my daughter. I am not going anywhere with you, therefore, you can enjoy your ‘breakfast’, I am no longer hungry…”
